  1. my uncle has one he had to remove the whole engine to replace an o-ring of some sort ... unreliable too
  2. yeah fj on the s12, but i thought the fj was a SOHC 6 clyinder... and my opinion is that if this engine does exist then it was a wild project of some sort that you may have read as i very much doubt it exists in widespread use...
  3. what's the best way to calibrate the boost level without an aftermarket boost gauge?
  4. geez bracks is a ****head... i can't beliee that you guys voted him in! (well i certainly didn't vote for him!)
  5. yeah its gonna cost to get power out of the NA try: extractors, air filter with cold air intake, high-flow cat, port+polish head, 6 throttle bodies?... as big Al said the cheapest way is to sell it and but a GTSt... if u had a spare $5000 lying around then u could supercharge it... but hey that's another story!
  6. rms = root, mean, square its the way of getting an average power output seeing as the sound rarely gets up to the max power. If you average the normal sign wave you get zero, but rms allows a useful average that approximates the power the the speakers will be usually putting out...
  7. by bigger in size he means thicker, but same height and length and fits in standard location of 32/33
  8. i'm in the north-west and i agree that over here its dominated by the likes of VN-VR comodores with the occasional camry and falcon thrown in. i rekon i see an r32 once every 2 weeks and that includes driving all the way to clayton each day for uni. but for r33's... well i see at least 5 every day! for all those who see never see men driving r32's, well you obviously havn't seen me then... i ain't no sheila!
  9. LS1 definately. i have beaten one of the early model monaro CV8's with my relatively stock R32. 0 to about 130ish not sure about WRX's...
  10. someone could get a GTS4 and drop in an rb26 as well so just because its an RB26 doesn't mean its a real GTR. the best thing i would say to look for is that the GTR has flared front and rear guards. These are expensive to change and would probably be a giveaway as to whether or not its a real GTR.
  11. thanks mate i know by the physics of it that thinner oil should be better for power but i was looking to see if it was a difference that was actually noticable or not. has anyone else had this experience? btw, dineth: i hope this isn't hijacking your thread as i thought it was relevant to the topic. if it is i will start a new thread...
  12. hey i'm after one of the GTS badges that look like the GTR badge but have a big S underneath instead of the R. ppl have said thay are at shops but they all seem to be interstate! anyone got one? or know definately of a melbourne shop where i can get one? cheers, Waz.
  13. good filter = bad airflow (generally) so its a compromise and you have to decide how much filtration you are willing to lose in the never-ending search for more power...
  14. people keep saying that you lose power if u use an oil with a high temp viscosity greater than 40. what i want to know is: has anyone actually moved to a thicker oil then thought holy sh1t i can actually feel a power loss. Or, is this just something someone said and everyone agreed with because they want to look like the know stuff (happens a lot from what ive seen)?
  15. there was an article about a modified one in 'speed' magazine. that car is sex on wheels that's for sure... what a beast! i'm pretty sure its twin intercooled as well - not too bad but 1800kgs is a fair disadvantage.
  16. i rekon the V6 camry sportivo for sure very nice car although my cousin just got a black mazda6 and its not too bad, although the interior looks a bit cheap and its only 4cyl, plus (and a big downside) is its a mazda
  17. definately rock at the moment its linkin park and good charlotte - their new CDs kick ass! and i love that song: fever for the flava - gotta love that!
  18. yeah they got that stuff at supercheap as well. but i wouldn't do it either... too many lancers and sh1t around with that crap and it looks very cheap if u ask me Waz.
  19. phorj, the power loss from the auto is through the drivetrain and not from the fly. thus the crank power is unaffected and all R33's are 187kw, but its just that manuals make more at the wheels. where the auto helps is that is is about 20-30 kgs heavier. BUT... R33s are still illegal on your P's (unless its non-turbo) its simple just do the math. where as, R32s ARE legal (just) even in turbo form (this excludes GTRs of course)
  20. i remember looking at the info when i was getting my car (on my P's), and from memory, and please correct me if i'm wrong, the 180sx is legal auto/manual for 1.8L, is legal for auto 2.0L as it weight slightly morre, but illegal for manual 2.0L as it is slightly lighter and p/w is sooo close to the limit...
  21. did u check the FAQ section? i posted heaps of part numbers there and i bet you didn't look...
  22. thanks heaps for the help! am going to check out the sies now... how much do u rekon they are going for?
  23. i saw this badge on a skyline at the autosalon, and then remembered that i'd seen it before and thought it looked porn! does anyone know where you can get this? or have one for sale by any chance? i know it says gts but i think it will still look the goods on a gtst which currently has o badges... btw... don't bag the drawing! Waz.
  24. p/w = rated power of the ENGINE / tare weight of car thus dropping in this engine would mean that you would have 206 as this figure. odifications not included as its the power of the enging as it came out of the factory. in the same way it is the tare weight (which is the dry mass by definition) and so if your car is heavier then bad luck. so basically, get a just-legal car (ie r32gtst) then drop the weight and increase the power and you are laughing all the way to the end of the 400m line...
  25. sorry to hear buddy my mum has had cancer twice and its not nice to see her going throught treatment that makes her feel bad. but there is always light at the end of the tunnel - just stay positive. medicine and prayers are more powerful than many people believe. cancer is a word thrown around all too often and the connotations it carries often overshadow the fact that lots of people do recover fully and have fantastic lives. my thoughts are with your family...
