Is This Car Vic Street Legal?
Chris Rogers replied to Lostways's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
no. and thats from a Qld point of view. I dare say the first time you getr pulled over in it the thing will get a canary. if you are looking at buying it - don't unless it is engineered. -
I figure someone here knows where I can find one of these. as most know I am in the process of taking the roof panel off and before I go any further with it I will need to know where things are positioned on the car. so I need a chassis book with dimensions and measuring points. tried google already - no luck - tried japan - too old. tried local nissan - can't help. have a mate of mine with one but he cannot find the thing! need help

R32 Gts4 - Restoration/rebuild

2nd shot of roof panel being removed. there are at least 30 spot welds across the front of that. I have got the use of this cutter down to an art now. the lower support panel does not have a single mistake in it. another shot. the brass seams are going to be cut with a dremel tool. a die grinder will be too big to trim those 4 points loose. the front corners are about 4 cm long and those will be fairly easy to do. the rear sides are 15 cm and possibly a pain in the butt. we'll see. -
show me the remote. I have NEVER seen a factory fitted alarm in one of those. dealer fitted - seen plenty and ripped plenty out. yours sounds like a jap aftermarket thing. the remote pic will tell me.

I bet some of those end up here as for affecting things - yes. I cannot access my nissan spare parts guy at them moment with yokohama off line. subaru is a 2 week wait before shipping and the rest have finally come back on line. (good really as I have a S8 RX7 I need to sort fairly quickly!) been a rough few weeks for a LOT of people

R32 Gts4 - Restoration/rebuild

to be honest I have worked on much worse over the years that people were still driving around. a FC holden wagon springs to mind. this came into a strathfield workshop in sydney and you could see through the floor once they moved the sheet of plywood around!! the areas I can doing on this car are getting done because I want a straigh clean car. somthing I cannot find as most of the cars I have worked on in the last 11 years (I am talking 32's here) were rusted on the rear window, sills or cut/shut. that applied a LOT more to green plate cars. as you can tell its all about the experience. I am not a chequebook racer and anything I can do myself I will. those that know me personally pick up on that immediately. the only part of this I cam not doing is spot welding it back together and painting - simply because I do not have a stable enough hand to wield a paint gun - frank at GT motors does! -
R32 Gts4 - Restoration/rebuild

this is the forward lower part of the right rear guard. when I bought this car it was full of crap. that is the result of crap build up and a good hit with a wire brush. the inner guard is getting done so all of this will go. pile of crap that I prised out of the rear right guard. the big chunk is kah glass. rear lower right guard. that pile of crap was filling all of this. the hole goes through into the rear area - the rear panel (with hole) is fine top inside of the wheel arch. that will go once the rear guard panel comes off start of the roof removal - the spot weld tool I bought makes light work of this. I have a new roof on the way for it and the only reason I started at the top was it was teh last penel to go on. I have to do a rear quarter on this car and taking the roof off is the neatest way I can see of doing it short of cutting up a perfectly good $700+ panel. the grind mark to the right middle of this image is where the vehicle was cut/shut roughly. that panel will come out once the rear side comes off. the faint gold line on the C pillar is the factory brass seam. those are on all 4 corners of the roof and are fairly easy to find once you find the first one. I can use brass rods so once this goes back together that is how I will put it back together. -

ok roof is HALF off. I started cutting spot welds about 45 min ago. B->C pillar points - loose, top rear window area - cut and loose. will do the front tomorrow at some point after I close the shop. decided to redo teh body side of things first before I start on other aspects of the car. bear in mind I am doing most of this panel removal myself with a bit of occasional verbal guidance from a mate of mine who is a panel beater. his words today were - you are doing this quite well - done it before ? I replied - no first time I have done this and it is a slow/patient thing. he agrees!! I'll put up piccies later -
trim panel would be good for someone that wanted to do a carbom finish

anyone know how the rear of this car goes together? from what I can see the rear sides go on first the roof goes on last. actually - does anyone have a panel shop book for a R32 chassis. that would help me immensely in pulling this car apart correctly. -
corrected for accuracy. I see your dream and I can tell you now it will take a LOT of money to achieve it CORRECTLY. yes you can probably do it for $40k but in my opinion it will be a half assed attempt. S8 Rx 7 for 16k - yep - it will probably need a rebuild though. buying a local S6 wil also be painful. I have just quoted one for the central locking to be repaired and that is over $1500 in parts! rethink it a bit
-
ERD. he knows them well. body wise I can probably help though I'm NO help on the mechanicals though.
-
best if you do. though if you are doing it for an update it will most likely take your car out of the direct look up portion. I have two versions on two different machines a 2000 version and a dec 2010 version. the later version I cannot look up the 32 directly I have to force it to look it up by model. bear that in mind.
