  1. So I've been playing around with my iPhone for a week and a bit now, sorry about the late pics... To put it bluntly I have a strong dislike for Apple applications on a windows platform. On OSX they're fine, but on Windows they suck balls. So next thing I did was setup a minimal install of XP on a VMware virtual machine to setup iTunes on. VMWare allows you to pass on your USB devices too, so I could plug in my iPhone to my PC normally and it'll show up as a Camera/storage device. Fire up VMware and it recognises it as an iPhone. Sweet. Fuck you Apple, and your shitty bonjour and ipodservices. My phone came preloaded with 2.0.2 firmware. I got the phone from the Optus shop at lunchtime, and by the end of lunch I was running WinPWN to jailbreak the 2.0.2 firmware. Pretty straightforward application, only supports up to 2.0.2 so that was kinda lucky on my part. Tricky bit is getting VMware to catch the Recovery mode drivers and pass them onto itunes. After a lil while of pissfarting around (read: 1 hour) I thought I'd try the new 2.1 firmware. It was a matter of jumping on one of the macs at work and creating a custom firmware using the 2.1 image. And OMG the 2.1 firmware upgrade just makes the phone so much better at... surprisingly... being a phone. 3G reception is a lot better, as is volume and noise filtering. After that, it was off to set up an SSH client so I could SSH into the iPhone to tinker around.... then came the sFTP server... and more recently the VNC server. Now I'm all for touchscreen and all, but goddamn that keyboard on the vertical mode is a pain to use. I have pretty skinny fingers, so I can only imagine how hard it'd be for the average fatty. VNC kinda solves that. Now I can just VNC into my iPhone and either use the mouse to simulate my finger or use the touch screen and navigate, then when it comes time to type something I just use my keyboard to type it in. Absolutely-fuckin-brillinat for typing out SMS's (and I SMS like a madkent cos I'm on that unlimited SMS deal, and hate talking to people on the phone). Anyways... some screenshots: and for some quick info on the UNIX platform the iphone runs on: the obligatory firmware screeny: I've just finished applying to become a developer with Apple (managed to convince work to pay for some books and a licensing fee... on top of subsidising my phone bill payments AND being able to claim the phone as a tax expense). So hopefully by the end of the year I'll have made a few Apps. While I'm a LOT more comfortable developing for the jailbroken iPhone (cos I can just code in python) than using Objective-C, work seems more keener to get a few applications on the market, as a test, so me and a couple of other guys are head up that foray. It won't be a calculater copy or flashlight app, I promise. In the meantime I'm also gonna dabble a lot more in porting over some of our web applications over to iPhone friendly and optimised mobile sites using the Webkit framework... fun. In the meantime, I'm forced to use a Mac now at work cos the iPhone SDK only works on OSX (fuck you Apple and your vice like grip on the testicles of all your developers)... so far I've been getting away with a VMware image of OSX Leopard, but I think its a little too clunky (not to mention contraband according to Apples testicluar vice grip manifesto), so time to get work to maybe get me a Powerbook or some shit like that Things I hate about the iPhone: Crappy reception Home button DOES NOT END A CALL, it instead minimises the call and puts you in the menu. The number of times I've finished a call by pressing the button (I'm sorry Apple, I'm only used to 99.99% of the phones on the market that have an "End Call" button) only to find that the people I was on the phone with we listing to the rustlings of my loins after I put the phone in my pocket. Alarm is not loud enough. My old K800i with the hacked firmware and sound profile could wake up my neighbour in the morning (and deplete half its battery in the process). I've been late to work 3 times in the last week or so because of the pissy little speaker or sound profile on the iPhone iTunes. By far the shittiest program ever to grace an operating system. 2.x firmware and its iPod storage format. Why on god's name would I want my perfectly categorised music sorted into 4 letter filesnames in the filestructure? Only slightly more annoying than the fact that the only goddamned application that can upload music to be played by the iPod player is iTunes (see previous point). iTunes stripping out all my ID3 tags from my aforementioned perfectly categorised and tagged music when synching with the iPhone. I can't have multiple artists seperated by a ";" any more... just a retarded iPod application that things "Common" is a different artist to "Common / Taleb Kwali". Stupid non standards compliant media player. Its days are marked... when someone releases a decent media app for jailbroken iPhones (not like apple's gonna let people develop any competing apps to its proprietory stuff), its sooo getting uninstalled. The crApp Store... wtf do I want with a hundred different types of calculators and apps that make the light flash? Quality control my ass. Anyways, rant over... I do like the iPhone, I like the ability to tinker with it, I love the jailbroken features, being able to SSH into our webserver to run checkups, be able to VNC into my home PC while on the move to make sure my latest episode of Heroes has finished downloading to view when I get home, its a fairly quick hardware setup, and probably the best smartphone on the market now that Google's Android shown itself to be an epic fail. Kinda glad the HTC Dream sucks, validates my reasoning behind jumping the gun and consciously agreeing to a 24 month contract. Things i want on my iPhone: Doom2 (yeah I have Quake on the iphone, but doom was much cooler... I'll settle for Duke Nukem maybe) A replacement for iPod music player that has the same features, but can read off a normal file structure on the hard drive and adhere to some ID3 conventions A plugin for MediaMonkey (iMonkey is now available, but all it does it remote control your Media Monkey)... I want something that fully integrates into my music cataloging and playing application. Nissan Consult visualisation. I might actually look into this, they've cracked how to use the TX and RX on the iPhone to communicate via serial signals, so making the iPhone hook up to the Nissan ECU shouldn't be that hard. Combine a live reading/logging with the accelerometer and you're cooking with gas. Firefox on the iPhone (haha Safari's nice n all but FF is where my heart is). Although Google Chrome might be in the running down the track as its built on the same Webkit framework that Safari is. Video Calls. Although I've managed to get the video recorder application to record video, something that sends that via 3g would be nice Independence from iTunes. I want to synch my phonebook to my gmail without having to use iTunes (although the whole gmail to iphone via itunes contact synching capability is hot... lets me manage my contact list on a PC and then just synch it, with the added bonus of having a globally accessible backup), or my music with MediaMonkey etc.
  2. they're about as similar as apples and oranges. totally different chassis. you'll never get a ceffy cage into an R32 sedan (ceffy's interior is much larger)... unless you chop chop, which kinda defeats the purpose of a cage.
  3. bite me biznich SAUQLD is givin me IPS Driver errors
  4. holy fuckballs... another thread? ahah totally missed this one... of course... I'm in! Altho the Inner wesssssaaaaaide guys (me and Taz) both seem to be performance car-less atm and omg... can't... stop... looking... at... cleavage... in... Barbie's sig god bless Queensland.
  5. car "tuners" in australia are in general a bunch of charlatans who take your money for tinkering with your ECU and boost controller. Most of them have no mechanical knowledge or background, simply know how to work a lappy, a serial port (or USB these days), know how to edit an AFR map and may have access to a dyno. A good tuner is someone who has the mechanical know how to get a car running 100% safe and sound before he even starts programing anything electronic. I've seen cars taken to "tuners" who can't even diagnose a vacuum leak. Too many cowboys in the market with a six shooter but no horse. Either find an electronics "tuner" who works at a mechanic shop (so they can rely on a mechanic to fix your car properly) or find a tuner who knows his way around an engine bay at least.
  6. R32 sedan window assembly is in my rear passenger door so yeah should be ok.
  7. V8 is out of a Nissan Titan truck... its Nissan's biggest truck/ute thing, don't think its sold in oz, only in the US.
  8. looks like i'll be driving a 1980's pintara to the next meet
  9. got bored and your logo was on my screen so a quick google image search and 5 mins of illustrator later...

  12. i wanna make it hektik bro. when i get some free time and a welder I'll weld up a dose pipe for the beast.
  13. what the fudge? i'm just gonna remove this thread if the OP doesn't post up a valid reason why it shouldn't.
  14. In melbourne I used to get batteries for the cars from a battery refurb shop down the road, and they did some gangster cheap deals for trade. Anywhere in the Indro area that does the same? Regular aussie spec batteries as I've converted my terminals to bogan spec.
  15. i now have a matching pair. fark you.
  16. yeah sure why not? RE? lol
  17. cos you're a nancy boy
  18. Jam it mate, I haven't slandered you at any point, simply advised Josh that any tall claims be taken with a pinch of salt.... that applies to any import broker who promises the world. At no point did I claim any facts about your company or the charming fellows off NS that spam our forum at any given chance. What I've posted is simply speculation about the industry (if you read my comment, it says "I hope they aren't..." I never said that you were, only you are privy to that fact). You're more than welcome to clear up if you think it applies to you (but being a squeaky clean import broker it shouldn't apply to you). The last time I posted anything about Phoenix was a very long time ago, I was helping another forum member break down the costs of importing his car given the FOB costs etc, and trying to figure out where the extra costs were coming from in the process. Mysteriously that thread was taken down by the powers that be on NS. Regardless, I sincerely do hope you guys aren't helping idiots bring in cars under race approvals to sell as parts. Further, from memory I remember banning a "representative" of Phoenix Imports for spamming this forum a long time ago. Your new username will also be banned shortly.
  19. we don't wear clothes in QLD? why did no one send me this memo?
  20. lol i followed you out the no exit entry.
  21. pretty sure its a Stillen kit... they're faily standard bolt on kits. They have them for both the V8 and the factory V6 that's in the G35's.
  22. uhhh don't really have any major stuff ups... but in my current job while redoing the toyota website when we were putting together the design preview I changed all the aurions with chasers and camry's with verossas... somehow some of them slipped thru the net of final signoff... I got a huffy email a while after the site went live from my boss saying "please remove the non australian toyota cars from the site." Didn't cost the company a cent, but I'm sure some boss at toyota had a seizure after seeing parallel imports on their site.
  23. ahh GTRC... I should log back on there sometime. wonder if they've got R33 owners now?
  24. indeed, be very careful about putting resin hardened carbon cloth in front of your face in a car when it can flex. unless you like picking shards out of your eye. as stupid as it sounds, that's one instance where a fibreglass backed CF would be better as it won't splinter as much.
  25. yeah... sounds like one of andy's home videos.
