OK so the Autosalon is coming up on the 31st of march and i just was wondering a few things, hoping someone can help me out. Do they have any rules on the age of the car to be entered? I assume theres some on the condition of the car, but is old school v8 discouraged and rice encouraged? I only ever seem to see 90's+ cars, a few VL's and a rx3 or two. 2nd question, do they offer any sort of insurance or anything (on things like key-ings) 3rd, is it $70, or thereabouts for entry? i couldnt find any details. I wanted to get the valiant in a magazine or something so i have something to stick on my wall and because it's so different from anything else at these car shows (and so mickey) i thought i might have a shot at something Thanks

Boost Tapering Off At High Revs, Rb20
GTAAAH replied to mattysaidso's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
You mentioned you didn't want a full electronic boost controller, but try a mechanical one. Search for that $22 boost controller thread, i got one of these and it helped reduce lag and held boost later into the rev range. Other than that a remap will help but i wouldnt do that until you had the new turbo installed (as it'll need redoing) -
The wire will be a standard (may need a new coaxial end thingo to fit coz its japanese) type you will find in most cars so just look for a big black chunky cable, it's probably just hidden up a bit behind something. Anyways, i got a new windshield in mine, was looking for a new antennae, turns out my radio works fine without an antenna, go figure.

Boost Tapering Off At High Revs, Rb20
GTAAAH replied to mattysaidso's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I second that, mine really died out after about 6krpm, need a new one if you wanna see power to redline. I'd go exhaust first though if you haven't already, you'll need a decent 3" system with this turbo or your new one to help out with keeping up the boost -
Either WHALE or WHA1E

Recommend Me A Cheap Run-a-round Car.
GTAAAH replied to Musky's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hmmmmmm i think your all missing the point here. There is no car anywhere ever under the $1500 mark better than a MK1 VW golf. No seriously, i had one with 320,000k's on original engine, i slammed and crunched the gears on it, had it red lining 10+ times a day and took it 4wding heaps (Awesome entry and exit angles, they're fwd, but it doesn't matter, you just need speed and can make it up anything) the 1.6 litre has 75hp (!!!) or the 1.8 has 110hp, (mine had a sunroof to) and most weigh from 750-800 kilo's. You can take them anywhere and there fun to corner in. Not to mention very reliable and easy to work on (even i could) -
Should I Crank Some Boost In This Baby :)?
GTAAAH replied to bax_nz's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
second that, they won't hack more than 14psi on the majority of applications, unless your lucky.. Stock boost was 10psi on mine and is 10psi in a few manuals so i dont know whats happening there either -
I didn't end up going, my mate got epa'd just before hand and we were too shitty to do anything -_-, hopefully this weekend if the tranny is rebuilt by then
-
My mate (who i just sold the r32gtst to) got sent a EPA thing where he has to take it in to get tested. Just wondering if it will pass.. it has a high flow cat, the exhaust i will replace it with is fine on noise so no problems there, i'm just wondering about carbon monoxide emissions.. It has a R34 turbo, has been remapped by dr drift workshop, has a walbro pump standard airbox, standard bov and i'll disconnect the boost controller.. The only thing that should change the carbon monoxide emissions is the remap, does anyone think this shouuld present a problem?

They need to make some more rules... it should not be racing until speed limit is exceeded by more than 10 kph.. I used to have and still do have sooo many people race me up to the limit (regardless of being in the skyline, corolla or valiant), i think it's the P's.. I've had people from every type of life style, age, sexual orientation and demeanour drag me off. Just the other day i had a guy in an MPS try to cut me off and run my skyline into parked traffic.. There was no way i could brake and fit in behind the tram behind him and he had just decided he was going straight instead of turning off..I had to "drag him" so that i didn't lose the front of my car.. cool that i could have lost my licence for that.. cool that i can lose it every time i accelerate reasonably rapidly to the speed limit and the guy next to me does likewise..

Installing A 5" Autometer Monster Tachometer Into An R32
GTAAAH replied to TRUBLSM's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Hey, did you cut the red and yellow wire before it went into the fuse that connected it to the blue/ red and yellow wires or before this box when it was just a red and blue wire? Just that my tacho is reading from 500-1000 rpm off -
Well depending on your model it won't have leads but packs can go faulty, spark plugs and those other things aren't really going to make a difference in performance, but if they are all clogged/crap/old/faulty then it probably will. New panel filter doesn't hurt either (hi-po one) and maybe spray some carby cleaner through the afm
-
Yeh, i can't remember the exact price but i think it's around $8-15 It's a pretty big nice glossy though
-
Hmm, they didn't change that to did they? it's still 3 km/h leeway in vic right? ( i know it is in the other states )
-
omg are you serious ¬¬, all the fines im recieving here still seem to be 1 point, but that might just be to fill in a field on the corporate fines.. had a look: Exceed speed limit by 10km/h or more but less than 25km/h = 3 points, so he'd be in the 1 points category
-
Yep as they said you just have to fill out the statutory declaration (need his licence no. dwelling address. DOB and a few other details) then get it signed by a justice of peace, your law guy or someone else with legal authority (a chemist perhaps?) and mail it back. Then they'll send you a withdrawal notice and re-issue it to your mate
-
hehe my val got 180 rwhp and it's a 100% stock standard 318 (won't be soon mind you) with a tiny carby and standard 1.5" zorst.. It weighs 1350 kilo's... it's funny because i bought it for $500, still haven't spent any money on the engine, this guy probably spent 10K + changing his and i'd probably still beat him ¬¬
-
I'm heading over there to give the valiant a run, with my mate in my ex-skyline, if you see us come say hi (assuming mine is the only hemi orange pacer there ¬¬) Don't forget a helmet
-
3 points for 9 over? It should be 1, i'd contest that
-
Yeh S14 are faster, but damn those things must be the ugliest model, unlike R32's, what they lose in speed they make up for in looks. They have a nice speed - looks ratio so they win overall.. for example a S1 R33 gts-t would lose in a 1/4 as well, but they're fugly and weigh more than a truck, they have a bad speed - looks ratio. Same with all magna's camry's and other cars that are identical to S1 R33's. Basically the R32 wins overall so u still win assuming u were voting against the s14

Emission Testing Modified Skyline's
GTAAAH replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Wow, nice tuning to drop it that much, good effort. Just out of curiousity, when do you need to go for an EPA test? When you get defected more than a certain amount of times in a year? Or is it something the cops can stick on you, by looking at a highly tuned engine? -
Ditto, except i get it in my skyline, my valiant and when i drive my sisters corolla... always dreading those red and blue lights, they're so evil, i wonder if they've been subliminely making me afraid of them through TV or something ¬¬
-
The announcer SUGGESTED that people leave quietly and people DID leave quietly, they did this because they feared loss of business if the police started defecting left right and centre, not as a favour. There are no marks on the road in front of drag tag, even though it's an industrial area. The people leaving weren't and haven't been doing burnouts. Aslo, and saying this for the 5th time, some people seem oblivious to the fact that not all defects are given fairly or are even given to defective cars. It's all about how much of a power trip the cops are on, on that particular night or any of a number of other factors Also how can you possibly know who was getting pulled over? The cops weren't hiding, it's not like ppl did burnouts then realised the cops were there, the word had circulated all the way around the premises before people had begun leaving. At the time i left, about 6 other cars were leaving and there were two cars next to mine when i got waved. They pulled over some older guy who had his kids in the back and was driving a commonwhore with me. As i said, i knew about 30 people there on the night and not one of them knows of any burnouts on leaving, or even anyone who had the guys to rev there car over 2000rpm as people tried to sneak out
