  1. just get some gasket goo from where ever you get the thermostat from
  2. i meant to post up the other day, i was doing one of the rally special events (not the seb loeb one but the other one) and there was a civic in the race and the driver name was V. Take. made me LOL as for the post above, oh well, at least that will be 1 less person in here whinging about it.
  3. is ecutalk showing 20 degrees when in base idle mode, or just the timing light? if on the timing marks, which timing mark are you thinking is 20 degrees? the timing marks are 5 degrees each, so 20 degrees is the 4th mark from the left. realistically though, as long as the timing with the timing light matches that of the ecu then your timing is set right.
  4. yeah. and in the info at the start it says that slower cars are supposed to drive on the right hand side of the track when faster cars are coming past. i had to overtake a heap that were driving on the left, even on straights.
  5. this thread just took a turn for the better, LOL
  6. yeah it baffles me why they put in 2 versions of the r32 (the slowest of all the gts-t) but no r33 gts-t
  7. where the spark plugs changed at the service? also do you know what heat range they are, what gap they are and how old they are? it may simply be a case of fould plugs. they are fouling when the car is cold and running richer due to cold start enrichment, but as the car leans out a bit when it heats up, as well as more heat in the cylinders then it is able to burn the fuel better.
  8. you have to remember that running a car on a dyno involves full throttle and high revs. the engine popped because it had a weakness/fault. it just happened to be in the hands of a workshop at the time. and engine in a good condition won't pop for no reason. i agree with everyone above that it isn't the tuners fault.
  9. I found the kombi challenge relatively easy to get silver. exige 1 was harder but still got silver after a handfull of attempts. What is annoying me the most though isn't the game but a lot of people on here. i have said it before on here and i'm going to say it again since so many people aren't getting it. polyphony HAVE NOT been working on this game for the past 6 years, not even 5 years. more like 3 years. you have to remember that they put out gt5 prologue and then scrapped a lot of the physics and started over. As for the people complaining about the lack of smoke in the mirrors or the white lines, honestly, who cares? well you obviously, but why? It would just be a bigger drain on resources and would have to come at the expense of something else. it seems as though people want everything but aren't willing to accept that maybe the ps3 isn't cappable of doing it.
  10. or maybe, just maybe they did what every car company has been doing for the past few decades and quoted the power the engine makes at the flywheel. it is the same reason why a r33 requires a full exhaust, and 4 or 5 psi more to make 185rwkw despite being quoted stock as having 184kw.
  11. do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? the stock one doesn't read in psi and isn't that accurate, so don't use it for adjusting boost. secondly, are you sure you have it hooked into the right vaccum line? maybe take a pic of how you have it set up. or as dean said, just take it to a workshop
  12. yeah 7500kms of highway driving would be fine. in city driving you can spend a lot of time just idling which is wear going on the engine but not on the clock
  13. i'd like to see someone make a 1000hp skyline that will pass being put through a full EPA inspection, has warranty and full interior, etc. it's all well and good to build a 1000hp race car, but it wouldn't have the reliability of the veyron, nor the warranty, nor the comfort, everyday driveability, etc of the veyron. also it sure as hell wouldn't do over 400kmh because the aerodynamics of a skyline would stop it well below that. i'd choose the veyron everyday of the week because it is a piece of motoring history, and also at the end of the day, 1 is a super luxury high performance car that is extremely rare, the other is just a worked common sports car.
  14. pretty sure that adjusting the CAS will not show a timing change in the ecu as the ecu purely uses the CAS as a reference point. when the timing is set at 15 degrees and the ecu says 15 degrees then it will be 15 degrees. if you retard the timing via the CAS to 10 degrees with a timing light, the ecu will still say 15 degrees however it will actually be 10 degrees, but ecu won' know it. have you been using the consult program to put the car into base idle/timing mode before adjusting the timing? if not then the ecu may be altering the timing and you may actually have it set at 20 degrees or higher. you need to make sure the car is in base ilde mode (best to have the car to be up to operating temp) and then adjust the idle to the desired rpm and then check the timing.
  15. with a stock ecu you can't adjust the timing permanently at all. the moment you close down the program or unplug the laptop the ecu goes back to the stock settings. some consult programs don't even allow you to change the timing at all. if you are getting pinging then it will either be from the car leaning out or the timing being too advanced from CAS adjustment (nothing to do with consult)
  16. i'd check the following 2 things: 1: the major wires running to and from tha alternator 2: the earth wire for the battery sounds like 1 of them may be the issue and the reason why you aren't getting charge. i had a falcon that wouldn't charge the battery. turns out the earth wire from the alternator was completely shot. had a mates falcon do the same thing. the fact that you have put multiple alternators on and it hasn't changed makes me think it is a wiring issue.
  17. i'm guessing he was offered a substantial wage
  18. yeah i agree with the prize car stuff and the paint stuff. as for the NASCAR challenges, i've only done the beginner and intermediate challenges and i have a mix of gold and silver. on the intermediate one i have 2 of each. i found that you have to use the stick rather than the d-pad. you don't do the full/straight/full/straight type turning like you do with the controller, you just have to find the point where you can just hld the stick at the one angle and don't have to really make any adjustments. the 2 cornering challenges with the cones where you have to take either the inside line or outside that i got golds on (was 1 on each track, both indy and daytona) i got on my first successful attempt (had a few attempts where i hit the cones before passing). i actually found the amg driving school stuff relatively easy to get silver (only done beginner and intermediate in it as well), which is good, cause i hate that track, LOL. usually take is sort of easy and still get silver with 3 or 4 seconds to spare. i can usually even get away with a few minor off's and still get a silver. not going to bother trying to get golds as i just CBF'd, lol. as for gt5 not being something to blow forza 3 away, i think you also have to remember that there are limitations in the console itself that would mean that they couldn't make something too spectacular, or at least not without significantly increasing loading times. i do agree that things like the the shadows are somewhat of a major flaw in the graphics. a lot of people are complaining about the lack of option to turn off the HUD (this possibly comes from the plasma screen owners worrying about burn in). but polyphony have said that they will be releasing updates and patches along the way, so i think we can expect to see a few things change over time.
  19. I turned the exposure up on the game (pause>settings) as well as the brightness on the tv. Made night racing a bit better
  20. I'm at level 15. i just finished the grand tours race which was a group of different contrast races. some a piece of cake, others hard. there was 1 that was a 2 lap race at monza. i was in 1st place after ther second chicane and won the race by about 5 seconds even after a big lose. then there was a rally time trial where the car has traction control and won't accelerate if the car is the slightest bit sideways and i was ages away from getting a silver so only got a bronze. Also whoever did the graphics for the lights at night has obviously never driven a car. low beam and highbeam were the same just the patch of light on the road got a bit brighter you couldn't see shit. it lit up the road q car length in front of the car. if cars were like that in real life most of us would've died in car crashes years ago.
  21. Apparently there is a second update now. i just went to load up they game and there is a second update for it now will post up if i notice anything different.
  22. might be worth checking for fault codes. if you discover a fault code then that will tell you exactly what the problem is and save a bit of guesswork. if there is no fault code then it becomes a process of elimination.
  23. why do people seem to think that skylines are some mythical beast that needs to be treated in some special way and can't be driven like a normal car? they are just a standard family car with a turbo attatched. it will be more than fine to do the highway run in. highway driving is generally better on cars than the stop/start of city driving. as for fuel economy, you should see around 10L/100kms on the stock ecu.
  24. i found the elise one a little bit frustrating. managed to get silver on it though (was in second place and first place was just in front of me at the last corner). the one i found harder was the licence test where you had to do 2 laps in the old super car around one of the city tracks. going into the first corner if you even just touched the mirror of the lambo you would fail (even fail if you were pretty much all of the way past and it turned into you and hit your rear bumper), but then the next car you overtook you could slam out of the way. the other thing that shits me is that if you happen to hit the back of the car in front while accelerating the other car slows down or puts the brakes on, so you can simply lift off the accelerator and you won't get a gap between you and the car in front because they are also slowing down. and also if the assists are on (such as in the licence tests), if a car runs up the back of you and pushes the back end out a bit, the computer automatically starts applying the breaks so you can't accelerate out of the slide or pull away. as for gold licences, i've got a few. i generally get silver first or second attempt (i'm usually very close to a silver first attempt so will have another go to get silver), but if i'm well down on a silver and i don't like the test i will just go onto the next test. i'm more just trying to get my licences at the moment. just got the super licence to go. i have gotten a few gold licences first go. as for buying cars, i've only bought 1 car, which is what was required to even do the licence tests. since then i've won a few through the licence tests, and i have about $300,000 from doing the special events. the only car i have actually driven that i own was the lambo murcielago that was in the chromeline pack that came with the game. the karting and nascar special events i have found to be much easier with the joystick that the arrows. karting i have all gold. nascar i have a mix of gold and silver. liking the game though. it's good to have some new challenges and i like the handling physics of this game more than the previous ones.
  25. don't know about the 25 fitting the 20 (it may, i really don't know). as for being rebuilt, try asking an auto electrician
