The Nissan Skyline-9th Best Sportscar Of Alltime
HotPlates replied to wizlb's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Because the 911 GT3RS is not a 911 GT3RSR for starters. Related or not they do not have the same attributes period. Second to that, you would compare that to a Z-Tune, and the Z-Tune ain't no Super Car either. Porsche built the Carerra GT as it was one of the few high end car manufacturers that did not ever make a Super Car. That being, something new and entirely different from any other previous platform.... which rules out any 911. So there are full-spec road legal versions of these going around? Anyway, this is a GT-1 class track car. It's another category again. If you want to go down that track then you would have to include the home grown V8 'Super Cars' with a mere 650 bhp. -

So what's your point? Yes believe it or not, Japan does not, nor ever has built a 'Super Car'. But as we all know, Jap sports cars are/were built with so much more potential to unleash. Japan's closest thing to a Super Car was the Nismo Z-tune without a doubt. But it's still not a Super Car, just like the 911 GT3 isn't either. There are only a handful of cars in the world that truely qualify. Think Porsche Carrera GT, McClaren F1, Enzo, Ford GT40, Bugatti Veyron, Saleen, Pagani Zonda, Koenigsegg CCX etc etc... these are 'true' Super Cars. -

You must have been watching a different show because there is no consistency in steering, power, comfort, features, affordability etc between an MX5 and any of the other cars mentioned. The MX5 was purely rated on sales numbers. What a joke of a program! Then there was wanker comments like "Oh the Skyline is way too heavy". Yet they glorified heavier and slower cars. WTF? Also, there is no way the NSX is a supercar. It may look like one, but certainly lacks the power of one to qualify as a 'super car'. The next gen NSX should change this though....hopefully! There is nothing stopping the Japs from making a 'true' super car that would be on par if not better than current examples. It's just that no one would be willing to pay $300k for one. I don't think the people who can afford super cars go for just all out power and handling. There is an element of exclusivity and beauty that plays a part in their decision. -

AWD > RWD Wait a minute.... the MX5 is > than a McClaren F1? What a joke! No consistency in what the cars were judged on. -
So I thought the new GTR was going to be called just 'GTR' exclusively. But I looked a little closer at th pic in this link and it has 'SKYLINE' written on the back! http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au/modul....php?storyid=21 I kinda think the headlights look BMW like from the front. It's definately growing on me

I'm after an R33 series 1 rear fascia (the clear plastic one). If you have one or know of someone that has one for sale then drop me a PM Melbourne preferred.

I've driven the Boxster S and I found it boring and under powered. It definately didn't meet my expectations. But if you're a poser and looking for money hungry chicks than get one. Otherwise, I voted for the Evo X as the best of that bunch for what you're looking for as a daily and a track car. The interior is much improved on its predecessors aswell.
-
What about the Z32 300ZX? We are able to import these even though they were sold here in NA form. We can import 2 & 2+2 turbo models & convertibles aswell. I think if the high end GTR is classified as a different model, then we will be able to import it. It's the same deal with the Sti S204.
-
Under $100k would get the ball rolling for Nissan. Anything over $100k and people will start to question whether a Nissan is worth that much. It's a psychology thing. But having said this, the Z32 300ZX sold for $100k+ ($110k?) in Australia. Although not sold in huge volumes, people were prepared to buy a Nissan that wasn't powerful (only NA models were sold in Australia) but for the time was one of the best looking cars around. A lot of suits buy Porsche's for the wank "look at me" factor. Whereas the GTR will not hold that same prestige or image (It's not as elegant looking as the Porka). The GTR is a true performance car for the performance freak (who can afford one). I'd say most bought will be track raced by the owners. I can't wait to see one perform at the Targa Tasmania!
-
Then why do all complianced JDM S15's have them? They don't remove them at all. Also, when the car is registered the RTA will do a physical check on the car to assess its road worthiness.
-
The A-pillar gauge should be legal as it came factory standard. R34 GTR rims (no tyres) are usually $2500+ depending on the condition.
-
This is normal. Jap cars are tuned for higher RON fuel.
-
Very old post I know.. but just to clear this up the S2000 is one of the best handling cars with a perfect 50/50 weight distribution!
-
But in all reality, you can't compare a stock R33 to a stock 350Z. There are hardly any R33's going around without an exhaust and a pod/high flow panel. It would be pretty even.
-
You're joking right? No way the Evo X is going to be $150k!

Performance Of R33 Skyline Vs Ford Xr5 Turbo Focus
HotPlates replied to LatinR33's topic in General Automotive Discussion
So is the XR5 turbo coming in at 1437 kg.... with only 166 kW. The R33 would still be the quicker of the two. I used to own an N15 SSS and that was a fun car to drive! Great handling too being a FWD. But fun only because it was so light. XR5 turbo seems too heavy. But would be an awesome daily though Personally I would get a Golf Gti if you were looking for a hot hatch for $4k more. -
R33 Skyline Gts-t RB25DET Inline 6 cylinder DOHC 24 valve IC turbo Max power 184kW @ 6400rpm Max torque 294Nm @ 4800rpm Weight 1370kg Nissan 350Z VQ35DE Six cylinder, V-formation, chain driven DOHC, four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing, all alloy. Max power 206kW @ 6200rpm (221kW later versions) Max torque 363Nm @ 4800rpm Weight 1490kg The Zed has more 'instant' power off the line as it has a larger displacement and no turbo to spool. They have similar power to weight ratios though, with the Zed being slightly in favour.

Currently you require an external GPS receiver to run TomTom maps On Nokia phones. But 'apparently' there is a version coming out where an external GPS receiver will not be required. Keep an eye out on this thread: http://www.n95users.com/forum/third-party-...ing-soon-8.html Does anyone know if you can plan your own routes on the car GPS units?
-
Nah they are the 350Z 'Track' wheels. Thanks anyways!
-
The only things I don't like about the new GTR are lack of pumped rear guards and the styling of the front. Otherwise it's hawt!
-
And the outcome was??? I've got a Nokia N95 and the included maps with it are shite. I've looked into loading the TomTom maps on it but I've heard they are bringing out a version where you don't have to have an external GPS receiver. Only problem is it's hard to get a satellite fix with an N95 whilst in your car.

Have The Japs Actually Tried?
HotPlates replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I think it's 2 things. First and most obvious, the Japanese power (straight from the factory) restriction has only recently been lifted. Before, pretty much any power rating could not exceed 206kW out of the show room. That's why Japanese maunfacturers made their cars with so much more potential in mind. Secondly it's brand perception. Lexus might get away with a $150,000k sports car, the Nissan GTR might too but that's where it ends. People in this day and age aren't willing to fork out that amount for a Japanese brand that will most likely not hold its value. Tis' a good thing for us poorer blokes that some of the Japanese cars are every bit as good if not better than their more expensive European counterparts as far as performance goes. You tend to get less luxury in the Japanese brands though. But if I had the choice between the new GTR and the 997 Porsche turbo, I would choose the Porsche no contest. The new GTR still looks odd especially from the front.
