I've tried to push for this quite some time ago but unfortunately it was like talking to a brick wall. Its quite a step from the 20 to the 25 with regards to spool, mid range and general doodling torque. Now do that again with the 30.
-
Mine used to run just under ~9-9.5psi with the stock exhaust/cat and then 10.9psi with an exhaust but the dump was shiet.. Usually with a decent dump and exhaust the 32's will see 12psi without a boost controller.

Also.... There was recently another bloke with his RB30DET running a set of 282duration cams and gt42 turbo. The thing just didn't making power much like yours. Speculated the ramp rate was too great for the hydraulic etc; he does run isky springs etc but yeah not sure if he did get to the bottom of it. He runs on the same dyno as I so I will find out within a week or so when mines back on the dyno with a set of 264/264's if he did ever get to the bottom of it. That thing spins to 8.5k :S Who said rb30's don't rev. Out of curiosity what plugs are u running?
-
Could just be bad luck. Some rb25det heads begin to float at 20psi with std cams others with 25psi+. Just luck of the draw. Throw an aggressive ramp rate in to the equation and its all over. I lucked out; my rb25de head had issues at 9-10psi+ over 4000rpm; others with the same heads its almost always 17+psi. Changed valve springs and its all good.

Providing you use the original wiring to trigger the relay it poses no problem.
-
Regardless you have to replace it with the appropriate rb20/25/26 outlet anyway to suit the car its going in.

lol... I went from a 1.2 tonne Xtreme clutch to the heaviest I believe 1.2tonne Exedy and the exedy felt like a feather compared to the super heavy Xtreme. However; I felt a fairly new Extreme that was around the 1tonne mark and that felt fairly light so maybe it was just their old school clutches that were super heavy on the foot.

No doubt the night before it gets tuned it will feel like the night before xmas when you were a little tacker.

cooldude/paintman... Why do you feel the need to make personal attacks? Peak torque is made as the afr's spike to 14:1. Not good. Simple as that. So pull your head in and discuss not attack.

Gtr Vs Gtst Huge Difference In Performance?

khunjeng, what tyres/size are you running? Mine had no issues getting power down when it was making 268rwkw in third or second with 225/50/16's as soon as I put the Toyo Proxes 4's on and dialed in around 12mm of cradle rake. Prior I dropped on a mates neear new Nankang NS2 245/40/18's of which were shiet; they provided less grip than a set of cheapo 225/50/16 Federal 535's. The Proxes 4's had 4x the amount of grip and pos 225's. The cradle rake which is the most I can get in without having to increase the length of the front studs (not going to happen) has made a huge different to grip even with the old federals which used to let loose through third. But when they did the car would still accelerate instead of sitting on the spot. Tyres + cradle rake FTW and it gets power down pretty damn well. Once these Proxes 4 chew out I'll be looking at the RA1's or R1R's. -
Yeah... Stoich at peak torque + high dynamic comp ratio FTW. I am joking. Obviously the paint man isn't though or is he?? Surely he is.

More boost don't be weak. On the same dyno with GT2510's a bloke I know made 263rwkw at 1bar also.

LMFAO.. Troy.... Roofies... well it don't last long but you do end up finishing earlier. Romance.. no comment needed. Looking forward to you heading over to SA for a track day all I need is a set of tyres and a better driver lol and I'm set. Would be cool to see what laptimes you could pull in mine. Thats if you can handle the RB30 POWA!!! A little scared about it being a bit too much for you and crashing it but. *jk* -

haha thats awesome Troy. --- I've been pulling hard in this thread. Not sure if I'm doing all that well but. In other words don't take my posts too seriously im only playing around a little. -

Going from the R32 in to an R33 GTST the R32 GTST feels much more racey than the 33. The 33 feels a lot like a family boat/whale. For what its worth.. Andy and his old 100% stock r33 GTR. Mine running 13psi through standard fmic and exhaust making a little over 150rwkw. Andy launched at 5k mine at 4k. I had slightly better reaction time and hung in front; there was no passing. Up and rolling both would accelerate at the same pace. Up the boost on the gtr and its all over though -

On that note I've always had my eye out for a nice dark maroon R32 GTS4 4 door and drop the rb30 in to that. I came across one interstate some time ago but was buggered around by the seller. -

Due to the cost of these cars a hell of a lot are owned by the younger mob. No longer is it the mid 20's well in to the 30's. I'm now in my late 20's and have owned my gtst since 2001. So a good 7 years. Working in town I hear the roar of an RB look inside and what do I see a pimply teenager either on their P's driving a nice 34 or one that looks like they have just got off their P's. Hardly do I see an old fart (mid 20's+). I have a feeling Interstate is quite different; no doubt why SAU/SA is a bit of a flop here in Adelaide. But things may change; there's a driver training day coming up that I'm keeping my eye on that hopefully will be a good turnout; if so well SAU/SA is a goer. --- But yeah who am I kidding; GTST or GTR; I would buy the GTR. Drop the 3ltr bottom end in it and enjoy it. After going the 3ltr and then driving rb25's and 26's I don't think I could step back. I must admit the only rb25 that has impressed myself is Simon-R32's Gt3071 .7 a/r with cams; it feels quick unlike a lot of so called 260rwkw+ cars. -

Sure the GTR is the better car but honestly its not for me.. Running costs for one; they use considerably more than my rb30det in the lowly R32 GTST that averages 11l/100km's driving locally with the odd squirt. The GTR on the other hand similiar driving 15-16l/100. :S Stepping out sideways unexpectedly. Not really an 'acceleration thrill' but more so lack of feel for the car and or the inability to identify changing road conditions and available grip. Of which with a GTST making some reasonable power you become pretty damn good at. My point was the GTR needs a fair whack more power to return the same acceleration thrill. Sure a 7k launch but then up and rolling your sitting there thinking come on get through that next gear. 99% of GTST's are owned by pimple faced teenages with maybe a tune and 200rwkw. Do the same to a GTR and they make 250rwkw odd. Mine has now had a fair bit of work done to it (rb30det bigger turbo etc) of which helps it get up and go instantly once the throttle is mashed. In third gear at 60km/h brought up on to boost slightly hangs level with a mates GTR making 260 something rwkw on 14psi with hks2510's - with second gear selected; he nears the end of second gear and mine simply sprints away. I'm a strong believer of the sr20 and rb30 having just that little bit better rod/stroke ratio that allows it to punch away out of that corner or rolling accel. just that little bit more instant/stronger than the rb20/25/26's that tend to 'wind' out. Interestingly enough the quicker cars I know of up and rolling tend to be the good ol sr20. The rb25's and 26's etc tend to take a little to get up and going and play catch up. Not saying the GTST is better simply stating it is not to be underestimated and often whoops the mightl rb26 if a little work is done to it. -

Its impossible to tell by just looking at what your buying. A mate of mine bought an immaculate R32 GTR; it is spotless; low km's drives really nice. Yet 6months later knock knock knock knock. The Tune was fine. Shortly following the gearbox began making a huge input shaft bearing noise and eventually collapsed leaving him stranded. You simply cannot tell by looking at the car; you can pick the best example to find the owner kept it looking good and serviced but thrashed the crap out of it at the local track. Then you come across a dunga where the owner could only just barley afford it and its the most reliable thing since sliced bread. Its just Pot Luck simple as that. GTR's really don't give that acceleration thrill unless they are making 300rwkw+. 300+rwkw through a GTR and you have to start being careful with that third gear; start running expensive clutches etc. My self.. I find the GTR a tad boring as they do need a fair amount more power to keep up with a GTST once up and rolling and then there's that bucking feel of a highish powered gtst as its trying to get a hold over you. Can't beat it.. Unless you push another 35-40rwkw through the gtr and drop it in rwd mode. -
You can use the Tomei RB20 and RB25 solid lifters in them. The lifters them selves are identical in measurement. As for RB26; unsure if they fit; possibly require some serious shimming? No idea what the rb25de valves are.. I don't believe they are as they look like a regular r33 rb25det exhaust valve.

Mine out runs a 32 GTR up and rolling from second like its standing still; both are making the same power at the same boost. The GTR has a pair of 2510's. Granted it does hang with until I click third. -
Of which is part of a good build; ensuring all bits that go round are within spec. The problem is trusting the engine builder to do the righty.

A lot of construction workers are easily on over 50k per year. Steel framing for example you can quite comfortably pull in 70-80k. Construction there is quite good money. Maybe factory workers drink more ice coffee. :S
-
Mine flutters and I have a 4" turbo to afm 'dose pipe' with no bov :S Makes it go better.
-
Yeah it doesn't help but it is only an N/A. A good 10 years ago when I had a VL I knocked the cat out; made zero difference to power. Slapping a pipe through it on the other hand improved power.
