  1. In that case I believe you are armed with some new questions for le tuna.
  2. OK...... Just for my own thoughts, what AFM volts is it pulling and what does Trent say about the relationship between volts and ability to make power? If he tried to add boost in stead of timing does it continue to pull more volts or do they plateau also? The reason why I ask is because I was not convinced 240kw was the most my SS1PU had to give, and my tuner showed me that when he upped boost further it would knock and not pull any more volts on the AFM. He said that was an indication the turbo itself was maxed out, be it front or rear. He said if there was an issue outside of the turbo it would have still pulled more volts trying to make more power. (Yavuz @ Unigroup) What is the situation on this for you? Note; I do appreciate that you are running a Nistune and making monster power already, so whatever AFM you are running is POSSIBLY already maxing out before you run into issues.
  3. That U bend doesn't look too bad, however I can't help but keep eyeing the cooler. Everything else sounds spot on. Try doing some tests per the above, and try another core if its possible.
  4. LOL it's not shagged, its a return flow. Theory isn't theory at all, its a collective of data over the years thanks to this forum (and others). Most return flow kits hamper flow above the 250rwkw mark. It won't take the timing because the design of the core and piping adds too much heat to the charge before it gets to the motor. This will be really unconventional but you should have plenty of access to enough pipes, joiners and bends to just rig up a random cooler in front of the car, even off to the side. Am betting you will see major gains. IF this fails, and that is IF, I would turn to the cam timing as suggested... However it is easier to run some 2.5" pipe around the place than it is to rip apart a motor. SO try my theory first.
  5. Borrow a standard 600x300 core from someone and hook it up outside of the car. Yep just literally hang it out the bonnet with some long ass pipes. I'll give you my EFT details when you're ready.
  6. Pics of the gaskets? Poop gaskets can deteriorate with heat and will therefore let the tension off the nuts.
  7. All the more reason to try a few things Stormy!! By all accounts funki_munki should have the laggier turbo, so there is something lacking on your setup.
  8. Lol 4k is a good figure for anything at that sort of power level, its the motor naturally coming alive without being hampered by a laggy turbo. BUT what happens before its 'all in' is also important. I find that a setup which is all in at a point like 4k on a modern DOHC is quite good if it has a reasonable amount of sting below 4k. If below 4k is a bit of a dog and it all happens at 4k you might want to work on it.. For my own car (SS1PU SR20) it definitely all happens at 4, that's where the party is at, but it gets to 4 really happily and freely. Getting it onto power feels like it didn't happen, by the time your expecting power the car will be demanding all your attention as you hit warp 9. I hope that helps.
  9. My bad! I totally forgot that. That's a very interesting combo. Being a H wheel I wonder what an 8cm housing would be like... It would cut the rev limit down but I feel it may potentially make it a torque monster. Maybe then the anti-surge housing would pay off lol
  10. funki_munki I'd love to see the graph for that, I was always curious about the 60-1 hybrids. Please share specs and a graph if you get a chance!
  11. I don't see a problem with the bearings or the cap. Looks fine with no actual significant wear. I would check the pump for issues but if its fine I would put the car back together with a good aftermarket oil pressure gauge (assuming you were basing the reading off the OEM gauge).
  12. The housing will go on just fine. As long as they are both V band. It would be awesome if you put on the front housing first and just did a power run to document the difference.
  13. LOL thats the spirit, get it together and make some power 8.5 is fine, the effective CR after HG and machine allowances will be SFA different, maybe 0.2 or something like that. It's not data your tuner needs to get the most from your car, and probably a redundant concern on E85 anyway.
  14. That looks like an SS2 Cal And yes I was referring to you as the man with the smile from ear to ear.
  15. Rondofj did an external gate 5558 off the stock manifold and TBH the result was not as stellar as we had hoped. There was no issue with tuning etc, just simply a less desirable result with the stock manifold.. However another member used the exact same turbo in BB form and got fantastic results, but that was a fantastic build too... Full flex tune E85, hypertune plenum and quality exhaust manifold. Regarding the results on the stock manifold, even as an IWG Hypergear can supply the turbo with a 38mm flapper which works quite well. A member named Mick_O put a GTX3071R on his stock manifold IWG and got 335rwkw on E85 (caltex flex). In terms of outright power results tend to favour the SS2 from my experience. As many people have seen 270-280kw on 98 for both (thats what Mick_O had, too), and Stao has shown the SS2 achieving upper 300s on ethanol where another member achieved 350 on the GTX3071, I believe they use the same dyno (Scotty correct me if I am wrong?). So, all in all the SS2 will be fine on internal gate on the stock manifold for your power goal on E85. You should be very happy. Check the HG thread as there is a guy with a recently finished SS2 kit and he sounds over the moon.
  16. Reminds me of how I feel about my SS1PU Honestly the dyno lies to me, comparing my cars to similar examples with non HG turbos just feels unfair. Mine is so raw and aggressive.
  17. Awesome Callan!! Post a graph with full specs when you get a chance, that way Stao can index it on Pg 1.
  18. Yes, those are the correct housings. I would LOVE to see back to back results Please be the one to dyno before and after! For your own benefit also.
  19. They are very different turbos. Both turbos should do what you want them to do on E85, >300kw and 4000rpm spool target. If I was to make a determination on the final result I feel the 5858 is more likely to exceed the power you are chasing whilst the SS2 is more likely to have better delivery, particularly on the street. Having been on this forum for years I can say be it myself I would definitely be pursuing the SS2 before the 5858. The SS2 can be supplied in a complete bolt-on package and with an off the shelf bell mouth dump will save you a LOT of cash. I truly believe for the 5858 to exceed the potential of the 'bolt-on' SS2 it will need to be highmounted on a decent manifold and with good gate flow. The SS2 has simply been trial and errored to death by Hypergear and the result is consistent. I have spoken to local tuners and owners about the turbo and it meets expectations for power and spool in all cases I have come across. Though if you are going to put a manifold and stuff on it I think good WG flow and a 5858 .64 could be an ultra aggressive package (read light switch on off at a decent RPM). GL
  20. You're in VIC!! Sif even ask lol Hurry up and go see Stao, and stop resisting lol
  21. 4 months is a long time! You should have mentioned that in the original message I am sure it will be resolved for you, though. Just pursue the available avenues through fair trading/consumer affairs and play by the book. The system will be in your favour.
  22. I believe Mick_O is waiting on an order from FP direct, and it has been a long while. Perhaps the kung fu king ordered the turbo under a different name? (Bruce Lee? Just being cheeky, not teasing you) Or maybe there is an honest mistake between either side of the process. Call him up and ask for proof it was ordered. That's not unreasonable. However others are DEFINITELY experiencing delays, DIRECT from FP. So their claim of 'ship within a week' is currently bollocks. Not to say Mr Chan didn't first give you the wrong turbo, but I highly doubt he would be trying to commit any sort of crime and rob you. I, like MANY others, bought from CJ Motor before, they were fine. Lastly, you should be thankful you didn't contribute to the thread you mentioned.. That guy was embarrassing himself like a white dude screaming "I HAVE RIGHTS", rightfully addressed in the first 2 replies. I would consider it embarrassing to side with that sort of argument. So, call CJ and ask for proof they ordered your replacement, and don't be that high society white guy screaming for his rights. I'm pretty sure your request will be met with a reasonable response.
  23. NNNNnnooooooooooooooo... I would have washed your dishes for life to have had those wheels....
  24. YEZZZ is same. The numbering is simple, T517Z for TD05 16G6 and 518 for 18G variant. Likewise T618Z is TD06 18G. MHI do have a 17C compressor but it is not a suitable candidate, so don't fret its definitely not 517 for 17C.. They called it a 517 because the 16G6 is a larger version of the original 16G.
  25. V band discharge is nothing new, only that these are IWG. They appear to be B1 T2 framed units.
