Are The V8's Gonna Be Up A Creek Without A Paddle?
djr81 replied to Black Widow's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Well my argument is that when you get a good series at the top level one team will usually dominate at any given round. So the chances are the races are going to be processional anyway. So what to do? Simple: make sure there is enough diversity in the field to provide some technical interest in the category. The best example of this was the old Cart series. Prior to the split it had multiple chassis constructors, multiple engine suppliers & was interesting & financially viable because of it. You can never make the same argument for a spec racing series, of which V8 is one. -

Well to be brutally honest can anyone name a domestic race series other than the FFords that has genuinely good racing? -
Are The V8's Gonna Be Up A Creek Without A Paddle?
djr81 replied to Black Widow's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
What was good about the old Group A cars was that you could see the drivers driving the cars. None of this sitting on the floor in the back seat behind 40 tonne of roll cage & netting. I understand the safety reasons for doing it, it is just a shame you can't see anyone anymore. But Roy is right most of the Group A racing was pretty dire. Reliability was awful too. Not to mention anything production car based is expensive & inevitably someone will cheat. The thought occured to me on the weekend aswell. V8's are starting to look tired... -

I think you will have a hard time finding anyone on here with a good word to say for him. His stock in trade is abusing the circuit owners/managers for his own gain. WA went through it recently, now I guess it is the ARDC's turn. Mind you he does have half a point when it comes to EC. The turn out of spectators is dire. -
Are You Cracking Dba Rotors?

Have you got a shot of the vanes in the rear rotors? -
The dollar was floated (from memory) in 1983. The last recession was in 1992/3. The two instances are a decade apart so it is drawing a long bow to link them. We never needed a recession. It was (even if you buy Keatings self serving reasoning) due to a monetary policy that was held too tight for too long. In any case what people forget (conveniently or otherwise) was that the single biggest driving force in the decision to float the dollar was the reserve banks inability to control a fixed exchange rate.

What Is The Smallest Battery I Can Run In A Gtr
djr81 replied to Duncan's topic in Car Audio & Electrical
I have a 365 CCA Deka. Works fine. It is an ETX30L It has 26AH You can get smaller batteries. The main issue is the weight rather than the CCA. A low compression 2.6 isn't hard to turn over. Duncan, just be careful with the cranking amps listed for dry cells. Some of them use measures other than CCA. Which usually give a higher number. So just make sure you compare apples with apples. Oh and for info it is in the boot of my R32 & has a Nismo fuel pump making lots of noise. Handles track days etc fine. -
Pbr Rbf 600 Fluid Specs?
djr81 replied to wrxkilla's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Before you go chasing the last tenth of a degree of boiling point (dry anyway) you should be aware that the Motul RBF600 is now RBF660 with the following numbers: 617° F Dry Boiling Point 400°F Wet Boiling Point The RBF 600 is/was: Dry Boiling Point - 585°F Wet Boiling Point - 421°F So it is better when new, but worse when old. -
Webber to Mclaren after Kovi gets binned for being rubbish? Or, better yet, Webber to BMW after Heidfeld gets dumped. Webber to Renault to punch on with Alonso? Any odds on a good race this weekend from Pomgolia?
-
What the bits about cutting wires or other stuff? Anyway, why do you want to go more than 180km/h in your r35? I mean, really.
-
Baron, if it is just colours then do it backwards, ie chuck white in the translate section & get the kanji equivalent. Presumably you have the black box infront of you so you have the wire colours. http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en&referrer=ign_n So the first character in the box on the right hand side is red for example.

Maybe we need to move along. DC has announced his retirement. Webber has re-signed for Red Bull. There is actually a race on this weekend. Oh and ALL grandprix drivers (All top line sports people for that matter) are arrogant & have a limitless belief in their own ability to win. They can't not. It is just how it works.

V8's To Get Olympic Park Street Circuit
djr81 replied to Black Widow's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
SA is a good example of what happens when you have a street event at the expense of one at a purpose built circuit. Fortunately over here in WA there is the prospect of a good result for the local circuit. (New pits that no one really cares about but more importantly a circuit extension ) This is mostly because the state govt told Cochrant to shove his street race. I should have made myself a bit clearer with regard to NSW. I didn't mean the participants I meant the spectators. Most of the crowd figures for V8's and many other events are dire. Bathurst is Bathurst. Alot of people travel a long way to go & see it. I don't believe you can say the same for a street race in Sydney, or Perth for that matter. -
V8's To Get Olympic Park Street Circuit
djr81 replied to Black Widow's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Sydney doesn't give a rats about motorsport. Never has. You can say the same for NSW as a whole. This thing has about as much legs as the Canberra debacle. It is yet another crass effort by Cochrane et al to gouge more money out of promoters/governments. All it ever ends up in is crap racing, massive repair bills for the teams & this time allows the tree hugger brigades to further focus their misdirected anger on motorsport. In the meantime the few remaining purpose built circuits go to rack & ruin. Fkn great. -

I wasn't particularly arguing anything, just pointing out that others have done the same & gone unpunished. Martin Brundle may have a point, but Stirling Moss used to say the same sort of thing about sand traps, run off areas basically anything that didn't end up killing and or injuring the driver if he had an off. Times change, so do standards. Bottom line is two fold: 1. Good on Lewis for having a go. 2. Maybe everyone could lessen the hate. Just a little. Just maybe. I am pretty sure LH hasn't done anything to personally upset anyone on this forum.

Speaking of spectators, this was on the back pages of this weeks GP news.

The last time I saw someone do that was a bloke who used to drive a Ferrari, Michael something. If memory serves it was at Monza but the important point is that despite pulling a near on identical move (ie overtake then run out of room & go off track & miss the chicane) he, Schumacher, did not get a penalty. Reason? Because the overtake was "complete" before he ran off track.

Brakes Failure
djr81 replied to Travis Trayhern's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yes there is. Left foot on the brakes, right foot on the accelerator. Just use enough throttle to get the boost +ve. Then you can make some comparisons with someone elses car. -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
djr81 replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Nah it was a screw. The stiff walls along with stiff suspension means other than a vibration you cant really tell too easily that you have a puncture. Least of all on the way home from the track. So by the time you pull off the highway or similar you have a shredded RE55 & some unhappy experiences ahead of you with a socket etc that is not man enough to do the job. Followed by a very slow trip home on the space saver spare which, inevitably, will be flat. -

R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
djr81 replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I have a vague intent on doing the same. But it means two sets of rims, two sets of tyres & changing the bloody things all the time. Which probably explains why I haven't done it yet. -
R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
djr81 replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I don't know what fast Sunday driving means. Obviously not on the road. The RE55's (in common with most R compounds) have a stiff sidewall & a flat tread face. Which means they tramline like a bitch - far worse than any road tyre. 10mm of tread width doesn't make any meaningfull difference. Oh they are also very noisy, harsh riding and will pick up every stone on the road & fire it into your paintwork. They will, in short, remove the enjoyment from driving your GT-R on the road. -

R32 Gtr Brake Upgrade Advice
djr81 replied to LotusGTR's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
A mate of mine bought in some very large 17' tyres (300+ bag width FFS) from tire rack in the states for his Daytona coupe. The FTA means no import duty (F=free) & the price was so cheap as to be laughable. As for the air deflectors from Uniques - last time I enquired they were not available for R32 GT-R's. Hopefully that has changed.
