Yeah? The Victorian mobile speed camera program started in 1990 and supposedly decreased crashes by 25% by 2000. What they don't tell you was when Ford (for example) introduced ABS breaking into the EB Falcon. Most Volvo's Opels etc. (European cars) already had ABS. Yep it was around 91/92. Greater car safety was starting to be implemented into the general public (and we all know how long it takes Australian cars to come up with the goods). What ever statistics they throw at you, there is always other things that can explain (and have been proven) to show a decrease. Another example is the Premier of the time for Victoira; Jeff Kennett RAISED the speed limits by 10km/h and yet the accident level was still decreasing! WHAT THE?

Statistically speaking if I'm 4km/h over the speed limit, I'm less prone to an accident using European statistics and reports, but using Australian biased statistics, I'm more likely to hit that pedestrian/car/wall/tree instead of stopping in time. Whoa there Matt....My eyes are open. By the sounds of it, i've been driving longer than you, and probably seen more in my time on the road, yet I don't tell you to open your eyes. Not necessarily. RWC loose their license if they miss something, which is very hard to get back. RACV will do the checks but wont have to fix it, so they just raise everything which may not be a problem. It wont get passed the RWC. I reckon you might be up for around $400 to $1000 including parts and labour. A windscreen is about $250 to $500 including labour these days. Gearbox out is a pain so there's a bit of labor there.

Who cares? In Germany and Italy the government performed a study which PROVED those who travel faster than the general traffic velocity (so not necessarily speeding over the limit), and those who sped over the limit, where less prone to be involved in an accident and less prone to cause an accident. 1. They were more 'awake' or alert when driving. 2. Other people noticed the speed difference and therefore noticed the driver in their car and kept away from them (so didn't merge into them etc.) 3. The driver who was 'speeding' would generally remove themselves from the 'cluster' of traffic and therefore the statistics involved in having an accident with another motor vehicle were lessened. 4. These drivers were generally more confident. The Japanese also performed a similar study which wasn't for motor vehicles, but for motor bikes. Guess what? They found the same thing! I would consider myself as a safe "speeder" for the previously mentioned reasons. YET in Australia, the focus is so much on speed we get chastised every 5 seconds in TV advertisements for going 5km/h over. Then the media gets brainwashed into thinking 5km/h is "hoon driving", which in turn brain washes the general public who keep slowing down. Go figure. Makes it easier to get away from all the mindless idiots sitting on 90 in a 100 zone up each others bumpers.

Agree with everything and all well said. As you posted: The government can't make 10's of millions of revenue dollars from advertising about 'driving for the conditions', or 'poor concentration' etc. It's just easier to fine poor sods going 4km/h over the speed limit. Even though what you say makes perfect sense. If the Government wants to make revenue, why not throw the book at more people talking on mobile phones and RAISE the fines? Also dis-obeying the road rules (such as keeping left unless overtaking in 80+ speed zones or crossing double lines etc.)? Perhaps even more car checks to make sure the car is road worthy? (in VIC we don't have a yearly check) Why? Because it doesn't make as much money as easily! You can't argue with Physics (I like to but never win - damn it), but you can argue with better road design, positioning of safety devices to stop those telephone/power lines from being hit, remove certain trees, REMOVE all the stupid clutter road signs, and replace them with easier to read, better positioned etc. etc. Cars are getting safer/stronger more stable with more safety features and stop in quicker distances with your average Fred Nerk driving them. They are even becoming "pedestrian friendly'". Yet speed limits are being lowered? Pedestrians are being fooled into thinking because the car is going slower they can cross. The 40 zones are increasing traffic making crossing harder and the gaps between these 'slugs' of traffic are getting smaller due to the congestion and the rule of "you can only go as fast as the slowest section of road during peak hour". I wouldn't mind as much if I KNEW the revenue was going into better roads and road design, but it isn't. Most of the Vicroads traffic engineers must either be effing stupid, or have effing stupid rules they have to adhere to. (probably the latter). I could rattle off numerous roads which I think are dangerous (and I usually drive under the speed limit due to this), but i'd be here for ages. No one is fixing them. You can speak to Vicroads, and they note it, but don't do anything unless it's a pot hole or traffic light cycle. Meh.

I could probably hazard a guess and say it probably wasn't due to some poor sod trying to watch his speedo and do under 63 in a 60 zone. I can assure you that I'm not talking about 30km/h... I'm talking about 64 in a 60 zone. (minus 3 and your 61 in a 60 zone). I think you'll agree this isn't 30 over. Pricks that do 30 over and hurt or kill someone should have their balls/etc. hit with a gear lever until they are blue. I'm with you on that. Considering your post I think was directed at me, allow me to retort: In a 10 second period i'll keep doing what i've been doing for the last 11 years I've been driving peak hour, with no accident. Seriously. Secondly, the speedo in the Stagea isn't defective. It's the Australian compliance company which has ensured the car meets ADR rules who is to blame. If you read my post you will have realised it is within the 10% ADR rule. (ie you are doing slower speed than the speedo suggests you are doing, so when it says 100, i'm doing 91) But don't you worry, i'll be fitting larger dia tyres to fix the speedo issue. Then it will be within +/- 3km/h, and i'll probably still get stung by the revenue raisers. Thirdly, the amount of 'GOD DAMN EFFING WANKERS' that drive around being a menace to the general public (whether a minority or majority) who think fellow drivers doing 5km/h over the speed limit are going to kill every bloody thing on the road don't deserve a license. Go to Germany and drive the Autobarn and then you'll get an idea of speed difference and safe driving. Get on the race track and see what a driver does when they are at 10/10th's at 170km/h. Ride a motorbike and then find out all these numb nuts morons who are sitting on 50 in a 60 zone who THINK they are safe when they aren't even paying attention to anything or anyone else, while everyone else is trying to pass them. They CAUSE the accidents. Fourth, the coppers have to subtract 3km/h. 2km/h is the fixed cameras. They are more accurate and supposedly less prone to false readings. How are we supposed to comply to the rules, when the rules are bullshit? I'm all for more accurate speedo's and legislation to make sure imported vehicles or old vehicles must have accurate speedos. If it means safer roads (ie people actually KNOWING what speed they are doing, then it must be beneficial...) The ADR is stupid saying 10%. It should be +/- 3km/h. The "safety" camera's should be +/ 10%. 44 in a 40 zone, safe. 45 game over. 110 in a 100 zone that's called passing. Safe. 111, fined. Finally. The diggers fought for our rights for a democratic country. The freedom of speech which I have just exercised right now. If you want to complain about me voicing my opinion, fine, I'm OK with that. BUT, don't tell me that I am one of those "whinging wankers", or "god damn f**king WANKERS", because that just makes me more motivated to speak to my local MP about the atrocity of revenue raising the government is currently going through with their current speed limits/rules and regulations and dim wits who don't deserve a license who require more "education/training". If the road toll keeps going up with more and more cameras, (check out the stats for Christmas 2009/2010 with NSW going up 12 deaths from last year) then something isn't right. I'm going to keep questioning this, as I feel the current rules aren't assisting this situation. My 2 cents.

Update. I ripped the back off again with a friend who had a multimeter. Switch is working. Solenoid is working, but not getting the correct signal. Fuse is OK. We think it's the BCM or what ever the little box is in the tailgate section. Not sure where to go from here!

I stil haven't got around to fixing mine. I still have to investigate the solenoid for the glass hatch bit of the boot.

G'day Dave. not sure if this is the same problem, but I had the same experience just recently. I just had the caster bushes replaced in my M35 by the compliance company for RWC. When I went over speed humps it would sound like a piece of gravel was rubbing in the shock. I replaced the shocks and it didn't fix the problem. (wanted height adjustment too!) I ended up taking it to my workshop (who does servicing for me on my cars when I don't have the time - which has been a fair bit recently) and they found the new nolathane bushes were not greased properly and needed some more greasing. This was done and it's quiet as a mouse.

Yesterday spotted a silver C34 in Bayswater/Croydon while I was in my M35. Flashed my lights. I think he saw me.

As has been said before: no speeding = blind drivers who are watching the speedo too closely and not the road. How accurate is your speedo cpd? I know mine in the Datto is within 1km/h at 100km/h. The stagea is registering - 91 on the speedo at 100 km/h. In the Datto I'm sitting right on 100 on the freeway and passing drivers doing 90 who are either thinking they are 'safe', or their speedo is out like mine on the Stagea. In the Stagea I have to do 108 on the speedo to do 100. 3 more kilometres an hour and I get reamed. That's fair? So now I'm a driver who is looking at their speedo, calculating how fast I should be going so the guy behind me doesn't crack it, and not concentrating on the 'action' in front of me that I am steadily approaching. The system is stuffed.

If anyone buys this for parts, let me know as I will be interested in buying some parts off you.
