  1. agreed.....but I would probably take the 33 gtr wheels if they fit under the guards. 17x9 is a good size for semi slicks, plenty of options between 235 and 255/17. and the factory rims are strong and light.
  2. its pretty sad really, but I no longer deal with powerplay. I have bought 4 cars through them over the years previously though, and Ali is the most honest and thorough mechanic I have ever dealt with. But these days too many people have paid but not received goods. Ask Christan that runs these forums about what happened when he left a car there to sell on consignment.
  3. umm yeah....not easy at all. I've done it 2 ways: 1. use an air chisel to bash them out. you put the chisel under the lip and bash them (move around the lip) until they come out. I guess that is what they mean by the "easy" method. Its not. especially if the bush cocks a little and jams on the way out. 2. cut the end off one end with a hacksaw, then press out. despite using an air tool for #1, I found #2 easier
  4. In, I can't think of a better way to spend my wedding anniversary (especially since Kel will be down doing Targa Tas)
  5. saturdays remind me of Wayne Prenter
  6. BTW have I mentioned Webber is a hack? beaten by 0.8sec in the same car.
  7. true but you can't see that from the outside. but the clutch did change from push to pull about the same time. btw engine sub loom is different on r33 motor as well
  8. what tracks are in lismore? you need to look into which tracks and therefore who runs events there. Cams is the safer bet but ther are increasing numbers of aasa only places these days. having said that, grafton, armidale, tamworth, stanthorpe, warwick are all CAMS tracks
  9. good procedure blackrex....especially when you don't do something all the time it is good to have it foolproof
  10. wrxhoon was keeping a register of engine numbers for a while. but you can't cross check to a vin in fast. in addition to the heater hose size above 32 gtr has 2 plug mounts at the rear of the fuel rail 33 gtr has a plug mount at the front and a plug mount at the rear 34 gtr has a different cas. not a lot of practical differences though
  11. this start??? I smashed em! 8th to 1st before turn 1. wish it was a race not a warm up lap
  12. all turbo cars run a valve in the BOV pressure side. If manifold pressure exceeds the allowed pressure the valve closes, causes the BOVs to blow open and drop all boost. Painfully effective. In fact it really doesn't work well with the stock system because it spikes and then returns, I had to add a boost controller to keep the spikes under control. max boost I saw today was 11.3 psi dammit. mate the car was a shitbox in the wet (don't believe what you read on the internet abotu 4wd in the wet....it does SFA for mid corner speed). But in the dry it went f**king great, I was holding down 4th place with an emo X, emo 9 and sti only in front of me. pretty good for a 20yo car with a hack driver. And I had the wrong damn tyres on again. bring on wakie! What went wrong was....the fuel sender was borken, we chucked in all the fuel we had in jerries to be safe. 25min race, 3 warm up laps after the trouble on the grid....I just ran out of fuel on the second last lap. I could hold say 2000rpm without running out of fuel but anything above that it broke down Won't happen again.
  13. Indeed I was...in response to the ad on my105 claimining only 270kw out of a showroom evo.....
  14. well it rained for the race and qualifying yesterday, and the forecast for today is: Metropolitan area Cloudy. Heavy showers, easing to scattered showers later in the evening. The main issue with that is.....my car is rubbish in the wet!
  15. exactly correct. I understand it is as low as 1bar at redline but production cars only cares about maximum boost. presumably a death or 2. I have no idea why the regs are making faster cars over years. bigger tyres, larger exhaust, free injectors etc etc are just making the crashes harder when they happen. what is the top speed on stage of the lambo?
  16. Cloudy. Isolated showers. Hopefully none of that!!!
  17. ahh crossed wires sorry!
  18. i said 290 not 270. only engine freedoms are ecu, cam gears and fuel. turbos must run standard boost which in an evo X is 1.6 bar.
  19. hmm looks like a little pinging at some stage, obviously not too bad though. I have finally sorted the cooling problems in my race car, no problems running indefiantely at race speed these days (1hr +). I am not sure what fixed the issues but here are the things I did for cooling: standard fan and shroud n1 water pump greddy overdriven water pump pulley new viscous coupling for fan china 40mm radiator 1.3 bar radiator cap nismo thermostat with all of those things, water temps were just acceptable. when it last ran in that spec it was overheating badly but that turned out to be a water leak (so farking annoyed I checked everything except a simple pressure check) since then i changed to: pwr twin pass radiator moved oil cooler from in front of the radiator to the ps guard. shrounding the radiator to the chassis and front bar entry now it is absolutely fine. in fact i changed back to a standard thermostat because it was running too cool for my liking. they are the facts. my guess is the most important of all of the changes was proper ducting from the front bar entrance to the radiator. if i was air, i would find any way to go around the radiator instead of through it. no reason to think the pwr radiator was any better than the china one, especially not for $800 and 2 mistakes between the order and what I received
  20. really? even in production cars the emo X are quicker in a straight line than the 290RWKW v8s....
  21. the 4 spot wilwoods I've seen were pretty poor....too much caliper flex. But like all manufacturers I'm sure htey have different models, hopefully the group buy ones are more solid
  22. 3 years sounds like the edge of acceptable to me. I would be very unhappy if they are track tyres, roadies are probably ok for 3-5 years. in practice, the amount of light and heat where they are stored are more important than time, but you obviously don't know how they were stored. and with track tyres, the number of heat cycles (times you have raced on them) is more important than time or storage
  23. jiffo....of all the posts in here.....yours needs pics the most!
  24. OK...I trust you are sure the valves were not impacting a piston. depends on where the motor and cam were when assembled of course.
  25. sort of...but it is rubbish! http://www.eastern-creek-raceway.com/events.htm jeeus, no pressure there! the field is going to be damn competitive including those pesky emo Xs. Luckily they are down to 1.2bar this year instead of 1.6+
