Reasons Why A Highflow Won't Make Boost?
hardsteppa replied to s213b's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
lol that is awesome. Engine not turned on. -
jeez mate asking a bit much there, who knows what will be designed in the future? but nah it's not in a location that anything I've seen bolts to. i might have been joking just a little there, yep as for the shop's cost, if you actually designed it, as in planned where you want it to run, cut the alum bar to the length/shape you want, and even do the mounting brackets, I'd be surprised if you pay more than a cpl hundred at most for the welding. A decent multipoint brace will be several hundred, if you can even find something suitable.
-
who says? no they're not. Superpro bushes range in price, average of say $120. ANTIsway bars about $220 each, same or less as some of the braces. so does mine. Jack up one wheel to a decent height and the door won't close properly cause of the flex. I have strut braces front and rear, swaybars, coilovers, all superpro bushes, castor-rod brace, and so on. Don't know that a couple of braces will fix this for you. to stop chassis flex maybe get a one-piece10cm square steel tube welded along the length of the car on either side, with some picees welded across between the bars. That should reduce it at least. Might add a hundred kg or so though. also, you can get half cages that still allow use of the back seats without any issues. Honestly - if you're like me, once you get an idea in your mind it really doesn't matter what other people put forward you'll just end up trying it yourself anyway. So if you're set on thinking the braces are what you need, then no worries. The cusco one is pretty cheap anyway, mine was $119, and easy enough to install. Front strut brace from justjap can be picked up cheap, also supereasy bolton, you could do it blindfolded, or drunk....I know i certainly was. Those mulitpoint braces, have only seen them for GTR's or other cars that aren't skylines. What you could do, is talk to a reputable suspension workshop about making you something effective? Get some aluminium bar, look under the car and see suitable mounting points, decide where you want to run it, then get them to weld it up....boooyah, you've innovated too. I had one of the 4-point front underbody Cusco braces on my GT4 Celica, huuuuge difference. Not seen anything like that for skyline though.
-
yeah but dude, that's my point - i have one of those cusco castor-rod bars on my car...makes a *minor* difference. Things like that aren't going to give u the structural rigidity you're craving for, like a lost infant calf in the woods craving the suckling teat of its mother. If you want to bolt something on to stiffen things up, maybe just look at one of the half-cages for the rear of the car...u can get nice Cusco ones delivered for a bit over $800 and they look sexy too, will probably get you more 'giney in the process.

"ported out to match the manifold" i disregard all other notions of T3 put to me
-
yeah porting out the watersgate might be needed, will see. To me more of a concern was the chunk that sticks out into the exhaust flow, from where the wastegate port is drilled into the housing. Bit of work with a carbide burr and the flow is much smoother. The entry was also a bit smaller than T3 size, so ported out to match the manifold rather than leave a lip at entry (looks more even in real-life lol, though looks a bit wavy in pic)
-
Hey Dale, yes went internal gate. Will only be around 1 bar max boost, will see how it goes. Should be off to dyno in next few weeks so sill see what happens there.

just got my TD05-18g last week...agreed, EXTREMELY quick delivery, was only 3 business days (ordered late Tues night, here first thing Mon morning). Missing the bullet nut I had ordered but they shipped that out quick too and got it today. Trying to fit over the weekend and found a couple of issues. Longer studs I bought didn't fit as they were m10x1.25, and manifold end being m10x1.5. I did read that in one other post but most other ppl said m10x1.25....wasn't entirely unexpected anyway. Oil drainpipe it came with is useless, 17mm not 19mm, and way too short to reach. Drilled new holes in flange of OEM drainpipe and used that. Waterlines were biggest issue. I want to have water and oilcooled, not just oil, but the banjo bolts won't even come close to fitting in the top ports and allowing the hose to screw on. Unless they're pointed straight up in the air which is just ridiculous have read that both of these ports on both sides are for water, and ok to use either the top or bottom, but the return should be the upper port, is that right?

R34 Hicas Ball Joint Removal
hardsteppa replied to TJZ's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I think the hicas ones might have the body pressed into the hub, and would need hub removed to press them out. -
Lol thanks for offer...and sales pitch... But i'm ok. Yep i know about the safc/timing, or more impotantly, so does my tuner. Anyway lets get back to the antisurge thing, ppl use and recommend?
-
Thank you. What are your thoughts on the antisurge housing for it?
-
Thanks Dale. I do have the safc neo but of course more just for tweaking rather than redoing the tune. So plenty of ppl seem to run hiflows ok on stock ecu, guess the td05 is a different story tho. Pity, cause these are such a great price! And so much good feedback on their product.
-
Oh that's interesting, are you meaning that it will be flowing alot more than stock at that psi, or its too low for the td05's efficiency range and would need to run higher boost?
-
hey i've had a search of this thread and googled but didn't find what I'm after, most of it seemed to be about the rb20. I have an r33, daily driver auto on stock ecu and stock engine, and it's staying that way, although an safc neo ready to touch up the tune a little once the turbo side sorted. Usual 3in exhaust, hiflow cat, fmic, metal intake mods. I've been looking at the TD05 18g with 10cm housing and antisurge cover here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kinugawa-Turbocharger-Bolt-On-3-Anti-Surge-RB20DET-RB25DET-TD06H-25G-T3-10cm-/281245773483?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item417b8deeab what are people's thoughts on this on the rb25 and running around 13-14 psi? Like I say not looking to change engine or ecu or run any high boost so don't need anything that will flow more than what I need, really after response (esp being an auto) and a turbo the 'right' size rather than room to make more power I'll never end up using. I notice it's also about $70 cheaper from the kinugawa website rather than ebay, is that a marketing thing, or any catch there? also the bullet-nuts they sell, while prob not a big difference it does look like it would be better aerodynamically (and they look sweeeet)....people's thoughts on those, and use aluminium or steel? I really don't know too much about these so very keen on people's opinions and experiences. Thanks!

sweet, will have to drop in for this.

bought these links for my R33 Skyline when experimenting with making an adjustable swaybar conversion. Didn't work how I thought and never got round to using these, brand new and never used, only taken out of packet. Bought off ebay here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360688963581?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 can post anywhere in Aus or deliver some areas of Brisbane. $35 posted.

Keep it red. Fuel is dangerous and flammable, firetrucks are red for a reason, and your fuel rail should be too. Surprised they're not that color from factory.

Anyone Watching The Channel 9 News Tonight (11/01/2014)
hardsteppa replied to Danehill's topic in Queensland
Is it that guy that is username sriverkillr or something like that? Posted ads on gumtree, boostclassifieds etc for wrecking skylines? -
I've used the $12 one from autobarn, its a ballbearing/spring valve type. Maybe Orcon brand? Cant remember. Anyway, has worked a treat for me and have bled brakes with it a few times now.

Noise, Respect, The Need For Speed And The Grumpy Hill Billy
hardsteppa replied to NoisyIsNotFaster's topic in Queensland
can everyone please stop saying "we" when referring to the forum here? I'm on this forum and speak/think for myself just fine. Hate to break it to ppl, but there's hoons that drive skylines like dicks, and have excessively loud exhausts, not just commo/ford drivers. Same as every other car group. I live off a fairly main road going up a hill, and plenty of ppl drive cars with v.loud exhausts up it. It's pretty bloody annoying. I also drive cars with fairly loud exhausts.....so yes that can make me one of those ppl too. That's life, we're all hypocrites at one time or another. I think the OP's put a balanced viewpoint forward. It's an awesome section of roads, very enjoyable for a spirited drive and best enjoyed with no other traffic in the way. He's acknowledged that. Driving on the wrong side of the road racing, I don't know how anyone can defend that. Dunno about his tuning tips but hardly a big deal, debate it if you want or just 'whatever' it and move on. I didn't take these 'threats' apparently made too seriously and thought it was done in a joking enough manner. To the OP I'm most definitely not a supporter of the new hoon laws however, this sounds like an instance that could warrant their application. Video footage, details of incident, rego's etc, to the authorities wouldn't be a bad idea. Endanger only yourself? no worries, natural selection at work. Endanger others, say by driving fast on wrong side of road at night? no sympathy whatsoever and need to be removed from roads asap. -
I Wonder How Hard The Police Push These New Laws ?
hardsteppa replied to simpletool's topic in Queensland
the police themselves are often fine to deal with. Just doing their job, and with a minimum of fuss to the public and themselves. The concern would be the the push from the powers above, to make laws that take away freedoms and rights, and then push the police to start enforcing them.
