  1. You've driven one haven't you? Then you would know that the paddles are the only method of manually shifting wouldn't you? Therefore, the shots were of a different cat http://www.zercustoms.com/photos/Nissan-GT...T-R-32.jpg.html
  2. Gee... thanks for sharing tossa! Come on, spill it.
  3. lol!! I suggested much the same Harry, but thought it might have been me that was driving all wrong! lol... he is "The Stig" after all You know, after seeing that, I'm burning my "I am the Stig" t-shirt! Wouldn't want a random slap walking the Queen St Mall
  4. Pretty much what i meant yes. Much like an R32 Golf, with the 2l turbo instead of that delicious sounding "V6". You're sounding a bit like a VWAG fan mate Did the R8 drive day brainwash you?
  5. And why wouldn'y it.... it's a Golf in a fancy frock. Not that there's anything wrong with wearing a nice frock. Arrghh, you get what i mean
  6. For towing, definately an auto with an aftermarket transmission oil cooler (cheap). You can't rush the manual gearbox version not because it's weak, but because the synchros are easily beaten.
  7. Mate, wait til you drive a 35 gtr, you'll be sold on the DCT virtues believe me. Although it might not be as satisfying as a trad manual, the pace you can get by not worrying having the right gear is astounding, especially on a road you're not familiar with, and it's where the 35 gets alot of its pace from. It's nuts!!!! The only unfortuante thing is, and its only in SOME situations, it won't let you left foot brake and have throttle at the same time, no doubt something the tuning companies will be working on.
  8. Yeh Snowy... I reckon the Golf Gti is the kickoff point for a true sporty DCT car at the moment. Although, for under 20k, you can get one of these with a robotised manual, ala SMG, assuming you don't mind going nuts trying to drive it smoothly ;
  9. Snowy, just have to correct you, maybe you were in a hurry. The SMG in BMW's isn't a "tiptronic", it's an automated clutch manual gearbox. And I think it's appalling. The term Tiptronic was coined by Porsche in the early 90's for their "sporty" auto gearboxed 911. It was the first vehicle to have the extra little selector slot beside the normal shift. Over the years, seems most people have somehow started calling all gear selectors with the Porsche style +/- shifters Tiptronic. I love "DSG's", IF they're in the right car. And I think we shouldn't be calling them DSG, as thats just Volkswagen's term for it. How about we call them dual clutch transmissions (DCT)? IMO, while a DCT is great for a sports car, it's not ideal for a larger luxurious style car or tight driving situations, where a more conventional automatic 'box is much better. See what can be done with the ZF auto for instance, given the right programming and actual locking torque convertor, it can be smooth as silk, while still blipping the throttle when a manual downshift has been asked of it. A DCT on the other hand can sometimes be caught nappuing between gears, especially in auto mode. Yes, even VW's, which is seen as one of the best. I think within 10 years, there'll be only two gearboxes offered. A smart traditional automatic box with high tech convertor lockup for great economy and smoothness, and DCT for more sporting cars.
  10. Good grief... I SO want to like this show and for it to succeed, but I have a bad feeling. 1. The hosts were obviously told to try and incite some excitement into the show, and seemed so pumped up, talking over the top of eachother, talking too bloody much! Look at the UK version, sometimes a pause says more than ranting and raving..... Steve Pizzati.... you raised my blood pressure and gave me a tensiopn headache! Fark! 2. One of the highlights of UK Top Gear is the awesome cinematography.... helicpotors, super-high speed camera slowed to show water droplets suspended from a tyre... that kinda thing. Obviously the SBS budget doesn't run to that kinda stuff, so all we get is a few out of focus Porsche shots 3. The track is appalling, a motorkhana type shopping centre crap... oh God, just crap. 4. "The Stig" doesn't look at all comfortable driving, check his hand position and grip on the wheel amongst other things..... wasn't even using a good line most of the time! 5. The trainspotters amongst us would have all seen the inside shot of the GTR wasn't in fact the inside of a GTR...... attention to detail is KING. 6. Agree on Maybach.... wast of time and resources! I'm going to give it a chance, they'll need time to gell, but everyone involved will need to pick up their act for sure!
  11. Why the hell not? What coulod be more important? Me? I'm lookin forward to the afterparty
  12. Yeh mate the car will be there Wednesday.... staying at the old Grand Chancellor. Russ, Mark and I are flying into Lonnie and just have to swing past Devonport to collect the recce weapon Ingis from Hooch

  14. Oh it's on Russ.... it's on. Like DONKEY KONG!!!!!
  15. Thanks gents, and great stuff Guesty!
  16. Better than short stages Andrew.... longer stages help you get into the groove
  17. Fantastic news Harry.... we'll have to be sure I follow you through under Dunlop to get it on in-car
  18. E36 is hard to go past. Bolt on front brake upgrade, and if she's a fit one, it'll be all rosy I've driven them, and reckon they're a good thing considering the daily livability. To allay your "leg out of bed" fears... maybe some kind of aftermarket rev limiter should be on the cards? What do you reckon Bam Bam limiter guy?
  19. Geez, I'd be onto that unbelievable offer from Stuart!
  20. Well wicked Whats the longest stage Stu?
  21. Sweet I'll give you a wave on the way past
