First foray into the Skyline world, R33 GTST restoration
Shoota_77 replied to Neostead2000's topic in Introduce yourself
Yeah sweet, pretty consistent weather is good. You can keep your minus 20 degrees though! I'm sort of lucky that I have snow capped mountains only an hour and a half drive away but our useable snow period is pretty short. Generally from early June to mid September there is good snow coverage. -
First foray into the Skyline world, R33 GTST restoration

That's great you have a shed! From the photos it looked like you were stuck outside! What sort of weather conditions do you get throughout the year in Bulgaria? Here where I am (Northern Victoria which is the very bottom South East corner of Australia we have a massive weather range of 0 degrees Celsius minimum in Winter up to 40 degrees + in Summer (now). In my shed at this time of the year it's often well over 40 degrees so makes for very challenging conditions to work in! -
It's unfortunate you feel that way. I hate to think that anyone feels that way as an attitude like that (I'm not having a go at you by saying this) is what will cause the death of this forum. Yes it's definitely changed in the 10 years I've been in the Skyline scene and I feel there are a lot of reasons why. A big part of that is that up to 10 years ago we were all still in "discovery mode" where lots of people were experimenting with the Skylines to extract more out of them. People were trying new things so asking for feedback on what people thought of doing "if I do x, y, z on my car, what do you think will be the result?" Nowadays nearly everything has been done and apart from insane technological advances that are way out of reach at the moment (direct injection, electronic valves, electronic turbos, etc, etc) most things have been discovered. On top of that the means of which to find that information are now completely different too. With the size of Youtube these days there is a video for EVERYTHING so the reliance on forums of needing to ask for help has diminished. What can help the forums? I think everyone needs to keep that sharing and caring mentality. If you do something cool or different or if you just do it yourself, share it. Start a build blog and post your achievements. Then, everyone needs to support those content creators and acknowledge their efforts. It's a basic human need to have people acknowledge their efforts. I'll be completely honest that I love the feedback on my page when someone complements something I've done. Everyone would be the same so let's all be more supportive of each other, get invested in other peoples builds, less shit talking of people asking newby type questions (there is one, maybe 2 people very active on this forum that I shake my head at their negative comments all the time, it's just not necessary. I won't mention your name but you should know who you are. You're highly knowledgeable in the scene but you come across as a pig so just don't.....). The last thing we want as a "community" is for new people to come along, ask an innocent question and get shot down in flames. Some of them may never come back because of the instant hostility they feel the moment they walk through the door. THAT is also going to bring an end to this page. So, I'll get off my soapbox shortly but - share your discoveries, praise others on theirs and stop beating on the newbs and we'll all get along and the page will live on 😀.

Welcome! Yeah that is a bugger about the engine! Just shows how careful you have to be when buying things remotely. I personally wouldn't bother with the RB20 but at the end of the day you have to work with what you've got. If you don't have the funds or the capability to get an RB25 or 26 then send it! I'm sure a high revving RB20 could still be a lot of fun but you would have to do a whole lot more to it to get the same outcomes as just whacking a snail on a 25. I feel for your working conditions, you need a shed you poor bastard! 🙂 -
R32 Gtr Long Term Love, Now Project

Looking nice! Hard to beat a nice clean engine bay! I see you’ve given the ABS module a tidy up? They’re a tricky shape and setup to be able to do much with. So tempted to delete or relocate mine. Even just route the pipes somewhere else. Lower on the firewall maybe? Or just stop being a wanker and finish the car! 😂 -
Interesting topic and some great points above. The whole scene has changed. Most of us long termers bought Skylines when they were cheap. We were willing to do our own work on them because you wouldn't get slammed over cheap mods because it was a cheap car. Now, I think some people are too scared of A) not de-valuing their car and B) getting roasted for it on social media. I definitely second guess a lot of the stuff I do on my car whereas 5 years ago I wouldn't have cared! God, before the boom I was going to chop mine up, whack a cage in it and make it into a track car....

Yeah I look haggard as fu(# from slaving away for pay for my nugget.... Could also be from being 44 but blaming the car gives me an outlet to be offended towards. I'm entitled to be offended.

Shoota's R33 GT-R RB30/26

Thanks! The only thing I'm not sold on is my overall colour palette of the parts. I feel I may need to powdercoat my valve covers and top timing cover at some point as I've got too many different blacks and different finishes going on now. The plenum is satin, the balance tube and fuel rail are gloss and then the valve covers and top cover are all wrinkle finish. I think I need to bring it back to just satin and gloss black as accents. Other than than it's starting to come together! -

Temporarily assembled most of the engine to help get my head around what is required for wiring in new stuff (DBW, EMAP sensor, etc). Looks almost pretty! Will be powdercoating the Taarks intercooler clamp black (was supplied purple with DBW setup...). I've never played with one before, they're actually pretty cool how they work! Puts a fair bit of strain on a not fully compressed o-ring but I guess they do what they promise!!?? -
You’re right @Bigpad Paddy, those photos are shite. Don’t come back till you’ve taken some decent ones….. Just kidding, looks like a nice 34. I think a growing majority of us owners are “old men” now primarily due to the cost of them now. They ain’t a poor man’s car now. I was almost young when I bought mine 10 years ago (34 at the time). The last 10 years have been harder on me than the car that’s for sure!! 😜😜

Yeah being Merican it won't go around corners. Self drive might improve my changes of driving it in a straight line though! -

Yeah it's a fu(king disaster this thing. I'll probably bin it at some point and buy a Prius. Should be able to get $175000 as a roller anyway... I wouldn't fit a dirty stinkin Tesla to it BTW but I would put an Audi GT RS leccy donk in it! -

Been slack lately. Have done a lot but achieved nothing if that makes sense? I'm playing around with a few ideas which are time and brain cell destroying... What I have done first- Make an alloy pointer for pin point timing. Will most likely powdercoat it then put a white/silver tip. Powdercoated a few more bits and pieces for installation. Temp fit the exhaust manifold and turbo so I can make the PRP turbo oil drain fit out of the car. Needed to order some new fittings for the block so waiting on those. Had to get the intake plenum flange machined as it was warped from when it was welded up in production. Snapped the dipstick tube off in the block. Don't want to talk about it.... Sump off AGAIN and dipstick tube ordered..... Started rewiring the engine from the engine end also AGAIN, allowing for some additional inputs plus that leads onto the next part I'm still pondering.... So I want to somewhat "wire tuck" the engine bay and there really isn't a nice place to put bulkhead fittings on the drivers side to stop any wires running across the back of the firewall. So...... What I'm thinking is having 2 bulkhead fittings remote mounted under the brake booster and pretty much out of sight that also enable easy removal of the engine (cause GT-R....). I haven't entirely convinced myself it's the right option yet but strongly leaning that way. Feel free to offer your thoughts or rain down the hate! 😅 Made a few templates and trial runs to get it to where I think it would work if I do it- I've pretty much resigned to the fact that I'm painting the engine bay too.... 🤦♂️🤦♂️ -
Do Asians do mullets? I think you'd need one to stop the paddock full of bogans from tea bagging you! 🤣 Dunno how they'd cop a Skyline full stop. Not Aussie or Mercan enough. BTW, nothing wrong with shit beer!
-
All good points thanks guys. @Dose Pipe Sutututu at $10K and some, no thanks! The best option (which I'm not doing because slippery slope....) would be to remote mount it somewhere and retain it. Neat, functional and Kigali! I think I'll just live without the real estate and tidy it up as much as possible.

Hi guys, I see a lot of kits available to delete ABS. Has anyone done it and regretted it or is it that bad in original form that you don't miss it at all? Tossing up getting rid of mine to tidy up engine bay. It's been that long since I drove mine and don't recall ever activating ABS to know if it was any good! Thanks guys!

How to disassemble RB26 throttle linkage?

Mine is still in bits as I've gone drive by wire. Really should it back together at some point... -
GTR I just got one!

The only thing better than new parts and that’s old parts made look new again! Really interested to see the long term durability of the ceracote. -
500 killer wasps is where the fun begins! Awesome stuff, it must be insanely fun (scary) with that much power in a RWD car!
