Just saw this on the news this evening, apprently radar detectors are going to be a no-no within the next few months. Are we the last state to implement this? I have been asked to remove mine (around 2 months ago) but the officer who asked me to take it down said nothing when I said "do I have to?." So now im geussing ill be slapped with a fine in the future if I say no..

Yeah just thought I would mention it incase anyone is thinking of investing.

Was this report on today tonight? or ACA? right before the guy with the junkyard?

I wouldnt pay any attention. Radar detectors are pretty much useless anyway in my opinion. They beep all the time and the only time u turn em on is country roads and cops use lidars which get you anyway unless your lucky enough to detect it before they get a reading which does not often happen.

depends what brand you have, if you spend like $500+ they do work but i dont think anyone will risk 2k for it

So if I get pulled over now in the next few weeks will I get done or have I got time still? Can I tell the cop "I'm not taking it down cause the law hasn't past yet" ?

Well if there isnt a law against it yet then they can hardly book you for it :)

My bad, didn't read properly :D

But they are really handy for picking up emergency vehicles and road works!! They shouldn't get rid of them based on just that I reckon! :) (and it keeps me company cause it talks to me)

Think you missed the point. if u get pinged by a Laser gun that country cops carry they have your speed already, sure it might make beeping sounds but they have your speed already, your busted. Multinovas can be detected but you dont see those often on country roads, they are usually hidden behind bushes near petrol stations and neon signs.

ohh, good point..

on that note if you have radar jammers and its jams the laser gun, the cops can tell cant they?

radar detects work 100% at detecting fixed multinovas with enough time to break to the limit if you are not traveling at an insane speed.

Mine doesnt beep at all, unless there is a camera.

How is that useless?

maybe you just have no idea how to set one up?

jammers are not allowed. if they see u've jammed their laser then they will pull u over n search ur car for the jammer.

Was talking to guy from NSW, he said that they get fines up to $3k and they take 24 points away!! 24!!

And you can apparantly get detector detector units, which detect that the cops are detecting that you have a radar detector and it will shut it self off in time. But now the cops have detector detector detectors!! (Shite I'm finger tired!)

Also if they detect it and you deniy having one after asking you a couple of times, they can arrest you! (not sure how true that bit is)

Fixed multinovas? do we have those in WA? i dont think we do. If you are talking about the ones on the tripod you must have a very nice detector if its not beeping at various k bands like neon signs and such.

My opinon has always been that you can see multinovas in time to brake unless you are doing waaayy over the limit or not paying attention. They work as mock "bad situations" like a kid running out of and alley after a ball etc etc. You should be able to see that and stop/slow substantially. In that respect i dont mind multinovas. Handhelds on the other hand can ping you from a k away behind a bush in a ditch and even if you have a nasa developed radar detector its not going to beep until you are already busted.

see my point?

oh yeh i cant jam a a couple of sticky things on the widscreen and read and instruction manual, im an idiot. :)

All said and done they are still enforcing the law that is there for our "protection", sure u can start on the whole rant about how a 1980s POS stops in half the time at half the speed, revenue raising and that if they really wanted to stop speeding they would put limiters on all cars at 130kmhr but youd be preaching to the choir.

All good radar detectors let you turn K band off and leave ka band on.

with k and x off it wont make a sound until it detects a multinova.

80% of people I see with radar detects have it set up wrong and are idiots in that regard. They never listen to logic when I explain it either.

radar detectors in a city/suburban environment only work efectivly as fixed multinova detectors (ka band).

This I am sure off.

When on long country drives if you turn k band back on I am told you can detect those police car mounted radars from 1-2km's away.

This I havnt tested myself.

radar detectors are 100% usless at saving you from hand held radars and will only detect it after you have been caught.

thats pretty much all you need to know about them.

Yes I agree!

I leave my K band on even in city/suburbs, many times driving in the metro areas it has gone off crazy! I look around and on the otherside is a cop car with a radar setup in or on the car as they are driving!! So watch out they still use them round the burbs!

    • Man, different parts but the same numbers is terrible @dbm7! And it doesn't help that most online shops don't list the part numbers at all. They just give a list of compatible models...
    • Slow when hot could also be because its getting more dynamic compression, OR things are getting a bit tighter once it is all expanded. If it were an earthing issue, typically I'd expect you to have it have issues all the time. Unless it's really a combination of both things. Where the higher compression, and things being a bit tighter, is giving that bit of extra load and you do need a slight clean up on the cables/connections.
    • Yeah, this is one of the most annoying things about nissan part numbers... I've got an unrelated example... Image is of the AT output shaft ~ they have the same part#, but clearly the shaft on the left is beefier design to that on the right ...the difference (essentially) is the 'lighter' shaft on the right, is for engines up to RB25DE (this includes RB20 variants) : the shaft on the left is for RB25/26DET(T)....are they interchangeable? Yes...but obviously one shaft is going to be stronger than the other...and, the lighter shaft is around USD115, but the heavier shaft closer to USD150...same part#... ...epc-data usually tells a tale ~ the amayama listing for 39100-23U60 has a note "Longest side is between 60 and 105 cm" ; no such info is there for 39100-23U70 ...and given the great disparity in price between the 2 parts, it makes me at least curious (to the point of caution) where the 'extra money' went? ...ie; these 2 parts have a cost difference that (to myself at least) isn't explained by 'plastic boot'...ie; with amayama there's AUD700 price difference ...plastic versus rubber?...I'm not seeing it like that...and 60cm ~ 105cm...??...that's a huge disparity....something hinky going on here... I'd try searching by VIN, not model... /2cents
    • I don't know for sure, but I'd expect them all to be interchangeable given the diff end and hub end don't move/change between any C34 series. Often Nissan will change part numbers and the aftermarket follows those year ranges; but the original part number change doesn't mean other parts won't fit. The change could be a change in material, internal parts or even just supplier. For example, all the RB gearbox to engine bolts are no longer available and there is a new part number instead. The only change is they went from cadmium plated bolts to zinc plated due to the issues manufacturing with Cadmium. They look different but work the same.
    • One year is a bit concerning. Did you try contacting GSP? It says 5 year warranty on the box if I remember correctly. I'm also running their driveshafts on my S2 Stagea.   You could check the part numbers on Amayama for your year. Here's the link for my 1998 which gives the 39100-23U60 part number. Well, that and 39100-23U70. https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/nissan-japan/stagea/wgnc34/6649-rb25det/trans/391 What does it say for yours?
