When it comes to something like a turbo import, you'll find very few (if any) companies will cover unlisted drivers. Just comes with the territory.

Add to that Sydney insurance prices are probably amongst the most expensive in Australia. $3k-4k is about ballpark for a Skyline if you don't have an insurance rating.

If you think $3k is too much you're not going to find any cheaper or loopholes. You'll either have to fork it out, or just get third party and hope you don't have an at-fault acco.

really can't disagree with Razor..

lowest you'll prob ever get - $2000 until you get over 25..

i'm 22 - paying $2000 with a $1600 exces.. it bites.. but that's the price you pay..

considering a) age B) accident history and c) as well as lack of driving experience or years - you won't do too well..

they actually take into account the number of years you have had your license - so the longer you have had it the cheaper it gets even if you are under 25..

anyways - you'll quickly find out that you probably can't do much cheaper.. you want to drive a turbo import.. well.. that's the price..

Thanks guys so much, im realising all to well, and these companies (when you do the old parent method) doesnt' work out they go, ow if an under 21 crashes it's not insured, or for NRMA no under 30 can drive a turbo charged car LOL.

If i have 3rd party, and im involved in an accerdent and proved NOT at fault, am i cover??? for all my repairs??? And some one qutoe abtou 5k for theft wich is true this sucks.

I though i woudl get around it being in my parents name, but that doesnt' work untill im over 21 then i can do that with shannons, witch will be abotu $1500 a year, at age of 17 im pritty muched f**kED!

I really apricate all your help, ive rung about dead set 20 insurance companies interstate and local, and no luck :(, just car quoted $4700, then anotehr quote, $3200, then another quote back up to $4400, there really strange, shannons seems the best but as i said untill im 21 they won't touch me, and yeah links yoru right, they ask abotu total driving experence wich comes into play as much as age.

I was just holding out in hope some one here found someone.

Hmmm i hear alot about brokers, i dont' understand what they do??? Will it be the same story, it sounds all very sus.

At this point in time it looks like 3rd, part is the way, so jsut wondering am i coverd if some idiot hits me??

Thanks for all yoru help everyone

Michael

Gday

I just bought my skyline 2 weeks ago so I got Full Comprehensive insurance on it.

With Just Car insurance it cost $1297 (one payment) for the year to Insure a 1995 GTST for $16k and i also added on extra mods eg. Wheels $1500 , Sereo $800 ect....

Now this is my 1st time with Full insurance.. I used to have just 3rd party on my other car.

I am 22 this June with no accident, claims or thefts- this plays a part in the price.

I was talking to one of the guys at Just car and was told that this is a "Rating 2" and in July (which is when ive had my licence for 5years) it will drop to a "Rating 1" which is around $300 less per year.

By the sounds of it they judge on how long you have had your licence for... when you might be 26years old and only had it for a year you maybe paying more then i am.

Hope this helps

If i have 3rd party, and im involved in an accerdent and proved NOT at fault, am i cover??? for all my repairs??? And some one qutoe abtou 5k for theft wich is true this sucks.

Hi Michael. There is 3rd party injury insurance (aka green slip) and there is 3rd party property insurance. 3rd party insurance is a policy to protect other people (ie. 3rd parties :P). So if you have a crash, at fault, any injuries sustained by others will be claimed against your 3rd party injury/green slip policy. If you have 3rd party property insurance, then the other driver claims against that policy rather than having to sue you personally.

If you are not at fault, your repairs will be covered. In any event, if you are able to prove you are not at fault and the other party is uninsured, you may take them to court to recover the money you are out of pocket (for repairs etc.)

I though i woudl get around it being in my parents name, but that doesnt' work untill im over 21 then i can do that with shannons, witch will be abotu $1500 a year, at age of 17 im pritty muched f**kED!

Dude I mean no disrespect but the insurance pain comes with the territory. Same as more expensive tyres, need 98RON and drinks more of it, etc.

Hmmm i hear alot about brokers, i dont' understand what they do??? Will it be the same story, it sounds all very sus.

Basically a broker is someone you call and ask them to organise insurance for you. The way that it works it that you provide him/her with your details, they do all the checking around for you and then come back to you with the best deal. They usually have 'preferred' companies they deal with, due to receiving higher kickbacks. The way it works is say JustCars offers insurance to you over the phone at $4,000 per annum. They offer the same policy to a broker at $3600. He/she then offers that policy to you at $3800. So in the end you save some money and the broker is able to put dinner on the table. Make sense?

At this point in time it looks like 3rd, part is the way, so jsut wondering am i coverd if some idiot hits me??

3rd party property is the minimum insurance worth considering. If someone hits you, regardless of whether they are insured, you can expect to be ok. If they have insurance it just makes the process a whole lot less painful as you deal with their insurance company rather than fighting it in court.

I hope this helps dude, good on you for continuing to look for insurance, a lot of guys blow it off and unfortunately often have to live with the unpleasant consequences.

3rd party fire and theft ? its around 700/yr and u'll get $4200 bak in an event of theft etc.

or u could insure it under your parents name and risk it in the event of an accident.

You REALLY REALLY need to read the fine print on that one hey.

You still need to pay your excess, AND they keep the car including all items in it, AND the rego (you can get a refund on this). Now working out some risk managment, say you wont crash for one year. So there is $1400 (2 years), then your excess, say $2000, then say 6months rego back $300, then whatever you could scrounge off the car... Do the sums. Your almost paying them to take your car off you...

Being serious, just get 3rd party, so if you hit a bently and then crash thru a shopping center your covered, you wont be up for millions. Drive safer. Leave a 3sec gap over the recomended 2 sec gap. Be nice let people in. Just reduce the risk as much as posible. And your insurance rating is still going up while doing all this, so in 3-4 years you might be able to afford full compo. By that stage you will prob have quite a few mods on the car, and really need it too

I think I'll mention a few points that have been missed out in the discussion so far;

I signed my policy at 19, have a R34 insured for $30k and paid $2455 with JCI. They put me on a 40%NCB, I have had no records anywhere (crashes, police or insurance for that matter).

Points to note:

1) Have you played around with the options you choose on the insurance; things that are factory options on the Skyline are sometimes classified as "aftermarket" (e.g. air con etc) I reduced my premium by $500 just by explaining to the person that all the electronic features were standard!

2) Where abouts do you live... I have a mate with the same car and our premiums are a few hundred dollars different all because of where you live. High crime areas are always going to be subject to higher premiums obviously.

* Remember, insurance companies work on one thing only - statisitics!

3) Another point; it probably doesn't help that you bought a R33... as mentioned above, the statistics would show quite a lot of accidents related to them. The R34 received a lower premium IMO purely because there was less information for them to work with.

4) You could try go for one of those companies that let you insure the car on specific days of the week (ie weekend driving only or simliar). This option is probably not as good unless you are truthful on the matter.

I also read that you are working an after-school job with about 5.5 large per annum. Not meaning to sound harsh, but I personally think you will struggle with that if you choose to finance the car and running costs yourself. As you said, rego and insurance will take half of that amount. Dont forget maintenance and fuel - let's not even talk about mods

Hope that makes sense

Just Cars WILL offer you the best rate.....

Personally, whats the point in owning a R34 GT-t and having Third Party? We are talking about a $25K+ car here.....

At 17, I reckon the best idea would be a cheaper car.....

If your gonna stick with the R34, insurance will not be cheap anywhere, and PLEASE do not drive the thing on the road without any type of insurance......

Hows this for crazy.

Today i got my renewal for my 98 R34GT-t coupe.

This is will be my second year with just cars now a rating 5. And my premium has dropped from 2800 a year to 1700 this year. And the agreed value has gone up!!! from 26,500 to 30,000.

I am absolutely stoked as i thought it would only go down 300 bucks or so not 1100. I think the biggest thing with all this is that i turned 21 last november so that might move me into a different category.

Thanks guys, i really really apricate all your help, and hopefully the next younger driver who comes along can read this post and hopefully it will help them aswell.

Basiclly guys, im now with Just Car, 3rd Party. $630 for 3rd party, and extra $150 for fire and theft. This is in my name and i only get $5000 if its stolen or burnt :) my excess is $1600 wich is high b ut understandble but $950 for over 25's

Also if someone hits me who's not insured, and i get all there details, i get given 3k towards repairs only when i use there repairer.

Thanks once again for all your help, im still on the search for the ultimate company HAHAHHA if one does exist, oh just car said i can cancel and ne time and they will refund the remaing days.

I wasn't alloud to drive it untill i had at least 3rd party property, so i got it wednesday night, and drove to school thursday.

I love my car so much ;)

Thanks for all your help i relaly apricate it

Dude, be REALLY careful with that policy with the fire and theift bit hey. $5k aint much once they keep the car, with rego and you have paid your excess... Sure you can buy the car back, but thats with the insureance money.

I'm <25 with Shannons full comp... Just Car's price was pretty much identical, (though I got JC's price first then called Shannons so maybe they gave me a price close).

Ended up choosing Shannons for the pay by the month, agreed value and the customer service I got with Shannons was more receiving than JC.

im 18, with just cars, r32 rb20det, listed with a fair few mods, i got full comp for $2300, insured for $13k...

Im waiting for the renewal in April. i have had no points lost, and no accidents. Hoping it will go down, or else i wont be getting it agaain, its not worth it once i pay the huge excess...

Any idea how i can gete a higher value on the car? its worth soo much more :P

i must have got shannons on a bad day then im 46 perfect record full insurence on other road cars . when i rang shannons all they wanted to know is if i was in any car clubs? i told them i have been in the past but not at the moment they basically told me they wernt interested and suggested i try just cars wtf ? they would not even give me a qoute .they missed out on my business plus my son has just brought a r33 and they have missed out on his as well . i really would have preffered going with shannons as they have a local office but if they dont wany to take ya money what do ya do?

Im issured with justcar. Im 18 with a r32 gtst and a agreed value of $17500. Premium was $2200 and excess is $1600. I recon this is a pretty good price considering the car has a fair few mods and ive only had my licence for a bit over a year.

    • If as it's stalling, the fuel pressure rises, it's saying there's less vacuum in the intake manifold. This is pretty typical of an engine that is slowing down.   While typically is agree it sounds fuel related, it really sounds fuel/air mixture related. Since the whole system has been refurbished, including injectors, pump, etc, it's likely we've altered how well the system is delivering fuel. If someone before you has messed with the IACV because it needed fiddling with as the fuel system was dieing out, we need to readjust it back. Getting things back to factory spec everywhere, is what's going to help the entire system. So if it idles at 400rpm with no IACV, that needs raising. Getting factory air flow back to normal will help us get everything back in spec, and likely help chase down any other issues. Back on IACV, if the base idle (no IACV plugged in) is too far out, it's a lot harder for the ECU to control idle. The IACV duty cycle causes non linear variations in reality. When I've tuned the idle valves in the past, you need to keep it in a relatively narrow window on aftermarket ecus to stop them doing wild dances. It also means if your base idle is too low, the valve needs to open too much, and then the smallest % change ends up being a huge variation.
    • I guess one thing that might be wrong is the manifold pressure.  It is a constant -5.9 and never moves even under 100% throttle and load.  I would expect it to atleast go to 0 correct?  It's doing this with the OEM MAP as well as the ECU vacuum sensor. When trying to tune the base map under load the crosshairs only climb vertically with RPM, but always in the -5.9 column.
    • AHHHH gotchaa, I'll do that once I am home again. I tried doing the harness with the multimeter but it seems the car needed a jump, there was no power when it was in the "ON" position. Not sure if I should use car battery jump starter or if its because the stuff that has been disconnect the car just does send power.
    • As far as I can tell I have everything properly set in the Haltech software for engine size, injector data, all sensors seem to be reporting proper numbers.  If I change any injector details it doesnt run right.    Changing the base map is having the biggest change in response, im not sure how people are saying it doesnt really matter.  I'm guessing under normal conditions the ECU is able to self adjust and keep everything smooth.   Right now my best performance is happening by lowering the base map just enough to where the ECU us doing short term cut of about 45% to reach the target Lambda of 14.7.  That way when I start putting load on it still has high enough fuel map to not be so lean.  After 2500 rpm I raised the base map to what would be really rich at no load, but still helps with the lean spots on load.  I figure I don't have much reason to be above 2500rpm with no load.  When watching other videos it seems their target is reached much faster than mine.  Mine takes forever to adjust and reach the target. My next few days will be spent making sure timing is good, it was running fine before doing the ECU and DBW swap, but want to verify.  I'll also probably swap in the new injectors I bought as well as a walbro 255 pump.
    • It would be different if the sealant hadn't started to peel up with gaps in the glue about ~6cm and bigger in some areas. I would much prefer not having to do the work take them off the car . However, the filler the owner put in the roof rack mount cavities has shrunk and begun to crack on the rail delete panels. I cant trust that to hold off moisture ingress especially where I live. Not only that but I have faded paint on as well as on either side of these panels, so they would need to come off to give the roofline a proper respray. My goal is to get in there and put a healthy amount of epoxy instead of panel filler/bog and potentially skin with carbon fiber. I have 2 spare rolls from an old motorcycle fairing project from a few years back and I think it'd be a nice touch on a black stag.  I've seen some threads where people replace their roof rack delete with a welded in sheet metal part. But has anyone re-worked the roof rails themselves? It seems like there is a lot of volume there to add in some threads and maybe a keyway for a quick(er) release roof rack system. Not afraid to mill something out if I have to. It would be cool to have a cross bar only setup. That way I can keep the sleek roofline that would accept a couple bolts to gain back that extra utility  3D print some snazzy covers to hide the threaded section to be thorough and keep things covered when not using the rack.
