king_kw13
Hi guys! Man, long time no see for all u guys. I been gone for quite a while. Good to be back tho B) My R33 has finally reached the age of 100,000 kms now and so its time for a major service. I know there is a thread about this major service and I read it, but I was hoping for VICTORIAN experiences with this major service. - What was done (other than timing belt)? - Who did u go with? - What was the cost? - Any other problems that needed addressing during or after? Any posts appreciated. Thanks all!! BTW, this is the list of tasks that the 100,000km service thread mentioned (I'm scared of the bill!!): New Iridium Spark Plugs. Water Pump. Thermostat Cam belt Drive belts. Oil Filter Fuel Filter Check cam and crank seals for leaks usually OK and extra if seals required Check cam belt pullies All electricals, exhaust, suspension. Coolant and hoses. Gear oil 75w- 90 or auto trans service. Engine, gearbox and power steering get Uniglide treatment. Clutch and brake fluid flushed and bleed. Radiator and engine flush. Clean and treat battery terminals. Clean terminals to injector plugs, ignition coils. Compression test. Spray lubricant on throttle linkages and other. Adjust water sprayers and additive used Lubricate door hinges and strikers, bonnet latch, boot hinges, aerial mast. Check and tighten sub frame and suspension and cross member bolts etc. Tyre pressures checked and corrected. Air filter replaced or if performance filters cleaned and re oiled. Check list for our technicians and report given. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/ Share on other sites
paulr33
ice performance timing belt and 100k service all fuilds, plugs, check brakes, check suspension brake pads/rotors were fine + bushes to be done at 140 ish most performance places that i can think of wont touch Water Pump. Thermostat Cam belt Drive belts. Clean and treat battery terminals. Clean terminals to injector plugs, ignition coils. Adjust water sprayers and additive used Lubricate door hinges and strikers, bonnet latch, boot hinges, aerial mast. Tyre pressures checked and corrected. Air filter replaced or if performance filters cleaned and re oiled. Check list for our technicians and report given. the rest should be ok however there some people who insist on replacing the water pump at 100,000 i dont see a pressing need for it, i mean why do that and not the oil pump? they are both as equally as important. unless im missing something? the 100,000 service will cost around $600 mark ish and the timing belt change will cost around $450 byitself so $1200 is ballpark providing they find no major problems Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/#findComment-1914125 Share on other sites
king_kw13
Thanks Paul. Great advice. What is involved in a '100k service'? Will tell u how it all goes. I haven't researched it yet (I should) but what are the recommendations for spark plugs? adznight
Doin mine this Sat mate, will let you know how I go I'm doing all seals, all belts including cam, water pump (becuase it's east to get to when doign the cam belt), O2 sensor (why not while I'm at it), all fluids, plugs etc... Evil
the rest should be ok howeverthere some people who insist on replacing the water pump at 100,000 i dont see a pressing need for it, i mean why do that and not the oil pump? they are both as equally as important. unless im missing something? do your water pump!!! i didn't do it for my 100,000k service only to find 6,000 later that it was shagged... paul, the water pump circulates corrosive liquid so the seals tend to die at about 100k oil pumps don't corrode parts like coolant does... R31Nismoid
ice performancetiming belt and 100k service all fuilds, plugs, check brakes, check suspension brake pads/rotors were fine + bushes to be done at 140 ish most performance places that i can think of wont touch Water Pump. Thermostat Cam belt Drive belts. i dunno about that... Gerald (ICE) regularly comes home after doing a 100k service and he changes the water pumps without a doubt. Other stuff, if you asked, im sure they can attend to. Just remember, some stuff can be done yourself, like cleaning battery terminals and things like that. So you save labour hours by doing it yourself. paulr33
yeah sorry i should have said its minaly due to added labour costs i mean i would prefer they did check my engine and crap instead of looking for sqeaky door seals and so on. paying a price for a performance workshop, may as well have them look at the performance stuff instead of imho oem car stuff which any mechanic place can do. was unaware of water pump changes at 100,000 mine wasn't done that i know of yeah u can have everything done but its just gonna crank up the price by stacks Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/#findComment-1915471 Share on other sites

TracidTrax
hey king, u could always do most of them yourself and save a fortune, things like fluids, filters sparkies r easy but timing belt is a bit tricky my dads friend is a good mechanic + he is very cheap for us so he did my timing belt and i told him to might as well do the water pump seeing as the belt was off instead of paying $1000+ i payed like $400 doing most of the shit myself Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/#findComment-1915734 Share on other sites

ylwgtr2
youve got rocks in your head if you dont do the idler bearings......infact if i had to sacrifice....id sacrifice the water pump for the idlers....if the idlers let go your head has to come off.........if the water pump fails you leak water and the gauge goes up and you stop driving.......but id be doing both Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/#findComment-1918753 Share on other sites
R31Nismoid
yep, gotta do those idlers too if not already done I think they are every 80,000 (or 70,000) arent they? I had one let go many years ago. $1500 later as it smashed all 24 valves to bits, then the motor ate those yummt bits, and so the story went Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/#findComment-1918889 Share on other sites

Informer
Just a quick question, my car's timing belt has been changed as indicated by the sticker on the engine, does that mean that its already had its "100k" service? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/#findComment-1920919 Share on other sites
king_kw13
I'm guessing the sticker is just the timing belt service. wonder what else has been done - unless u have the service log (which almost always doesnt exist) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/103994-100000km-major-service-suggestions/#findComment-1921684 Share on other sites
