Out of curiosity, what do the rb30/26's rev to ?

How much have you spent on it? At the end of the day, an 86mm stroke is by no means a long stroke engine. a 3.0L six is no lumping dinosaur with huge piston speed should you want to rev it. The stroke is shorter then the M3, and i dont hear too many ppl complaining how they dont rev  :

Ditto the TVR 4.0L in line six etc etc. Throw a turbo on the side of them and they weil rev fine. A short stroke engine will always rev freer then a longer stroke motor, and also have lower piston speeds etc, but there is always a compromise.

And can i ask what do you mean by not liking the power delivery of the RB25?

I reckon a few people do...quite a few have thrown rods out the side.

The s2000 engine has a massive stroke for what it is too.

Really? All the Euro tuning mags, a friend in Syd who him and his dad, cousins, all die hards...never heard abotu it....and their not one eyed, if it was a problem i would have thought they had of mentioned it!?!?!

Your not talking about a drag cars running big turbo etc and 10s that may have thrown a rod?

Well quite simply - Compared to my current car, the rb25 is quite 'punchy', but severely lacks top end. I've been in a 230rwkw 3040 equipped gts-t, and it just didnt have it. Hitting the rev limited 1000 rpm earlier kinda spoiled it. Severely lacked top end. But it didnt have larger cams, and .... eh i dunno.

I like the linear power delivery of my current engine :woot:

I heard of them doing it...and then saw one with my own eyes at the drags a couple of years ago. It was a bog stock E46.

I also knew a guy that worked for a BMW dealer in the workshop. I mentioned it to him and he said they had had a couple in the workshop too.

As far as I know, it's only the E46s though.

If I had a Tomei engine...I'd race you Brett...

Actually, when are you heading down next, I may even be up for a nice view of your tailights with my backyward engine

Not sure, was hoping to see you out there first to show us all what a Jap stroker can do

You might have to wait till Tommy gets his Tomei engine...because Micky only has a Micky engine :woot:

You're gonna have to wait at least until August before everything is put together.

I think my threads been dragged to the dog house. Thanks a lot BU5TER. Damn gts-t drivers

Something to that regard ?

Anyone got anything to add

Yep...something else I forgot to mention was to check what sort of fasteners Tomei use in that engine. If they use Tomei Head, main and cam fasteners, they alone are worth a small fortune.

It's worth replacing the old ones, and even OEM nissan ones aren't cheap.

Tommy, you may have have told me this already but can you confirm what your actual goals are with the new engine in terms of power and application (drag or street etc) - What do you realistically want out of it

I heard that the purpose of this new car/engine is to impress the beer baron. so far it's working.

Tommy, ask them if they have a 2 for 1 special and i'll take the free one

I say just do it. if it makes sense to you buy it.

    • Have you done the Ignition Sync Wizard in the AEM software?
    • Find out what RPM it was idling at with the IACV unplugged. It's very weird that the rpm didn't change at all, and then it stalled. When it stalls is it nearly like a switch off, like you've turned the engine off? Or is it more stutters and sputters and coughs to death over a few seconds? Or does the RPM just slowly keep going down and down? Have you done a test of trying to start it with the AFM unplugged? Does it still die?     If you Follow Josh's advice on using Nistune to check the voltages (which is a perfect method!) if you see anything out of wack voltage wise, THEN get the multimeter out and read the voltage directly at the sensor. If the two vary, then you're now looking for a wiring issue vs a sensor issue. So be aware, what the ECU sees, may not be what the sensor is actually saying too...
    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
