damn dude your car is hot, went out for lunch and missed your groups run on the track :) Then i waited till the end for the sprints hoping u would run in that too but u never did

Thanks dude. Ended up getting a good run at the end of the day. The under 20s aim is going to take some practice. One thing I can say for sure is that the car will do 18s. I just need some time to work out how.

Spewing Chris didn't grab a 21 in the end. Ohh so close.

So in english, you and james are entering (the 32gtst) into dutton?!?

Yep...and yes i do own a car...its just that i forgot where i parked it. :)

...im pretty sure ill find my car before September...otherwise i may just have to stick to dribbling sh1t and stockpiling car parts :

Be interested to see what you could do in Jacks GTR! Probably give Frank a fright :)

Would be interesting...and i know its not the intention of your post...but i think its important to point out that its always tricky to come to terms with a more modified car then it is a std car. And considering that was Jacks first go at Sandown in that car, and it has pretty big power etc...he kicked ass.

Think back to the times ppl were doing their first few times and Jack is seconds ahead of them...hell 12 months a 1:25 was a quick time...

And again im not calling Scotsmans car slow, or taking away from an awesoem time, but i think there is some truth to the old is easy to drive a slow car fast then a fast car fast...so for a first time out in a powerful GTR, a 1:22 from Jack is a kick ass time.

And again, a 1:22 from Scotsman with std turbs is an equally impressive job :O

...and that goes for Matt, Dane, Ray Wayne and the RWD guys...some rwd cars with sticky tyres all into the high 1:20s is a great effort, considering it was the first time for many in their cars at Sandown, let alone the first time on semi slicks etc etc. Except for Ray who has done it all before...i was so hoping you could get the car into the 1:22/23s for the RWD boys , but a 1:24 is kick ass considering the conditions, traffic etc tec:)

Awsome day, had alot of fun... the corona went well

Got bald front tyres and the front brakes are on the wear marker but it's good.

Thanx to organisers etc..

more importantly..

WHERE ARE THE PICS??!?!?!!?

i am trying to put up some pics, when i go into my gallery, select what i want to be uploaded i keep getting this error message:

Problem running JPEGTRAN:

"/usr/local/bin/jpegtran" -copy none /home/websites/93/www.skylinesaustralia.com/photopost/data/500/DSC000011.jpg

Error Code: 127

Can anyone help?

Also a 1.22 is fast, but i think a 1.20 is another level...

Compare Jacks car to Franks car.... franks has more done to it, so it should be quicker...

Then compare Franks experience to Jacks... Frank as a lot more, so he should be a quicker driver.. so that 2 second gap is a bit of driver and a bit of car...

Regardless, anyone who's running sub 23's is going farking fast :O

Here is my prediction. In another 4 to 5 Sandowns, a 1:22 wont even be a blip on the radar. My gut feeling is as the GTR guys get more experience with their cars and the mods get those final little tweaks the times are going to be outright scary. I still back my car of being able to do a 1:23, fingers crossed I can wring a high 1:22 out of it with some fresh tyres.

That said I think we need to rewind 24 months when trips to the track were 30% fun, 30% beating your previous time, 30% becoming a better driver and 10% bragging rights and sh1ts and giggles…

I think we have to be careful of not putting too much attention on ppl punching out times, I know im worried about over stepping my ability. I know my car is still quicker then me and easily capable of handing out an expensive lesson…and it is taking away a bit of the fun I use to have

Good post.... but of course we say that because we are slow :D

By the way, you were doing awesome in the sprints Ray (blue s15), SR20 reprezent!! ;)

Thanks mate.

Except for Ray who has done it all before...i was so hoping you could get the car into the 1:22/23s for the RWD boys , but a 1:24 is kick ass considering the conditions, traffic etc tec:)

I really thought I could have done better time, but seems like more i pushed to the limit it was getting worst.

I think I need more ponies :P

Man id be jumping out of my skin with a solid 1:24....and re-reading my post, i hope it doesnt read "except for Ray" as you not havign doen a good job ;) Its supposed to read more "you have driven your car with semis etc at Sandown before" etc etc...make sense :P

I do need CE28s and i do need matching hard corey seats, and a 1:24 time slip to go with it :spank:

Yeah I understand.

What really annoys me is, the car has done 22s and I have no idea where I can make up 2 secs. I have a feeling its the rear wing, i think it has too much drag. When it did 22s it had a different rear wing, plus I only get 200k on the main straight where as my old S15 would get 220 which had less mod......anyway, im ordering in some cams. ;)

Thankyou to whoever broke their cars this morning and got jarrod and myself out there! (hope all is well) was an awesome day, sandown is such an awesome track, even if ya rotors are corrigated... Thanks to the officials, flaggies and timers etc, was well run. (I think they need to introduce an oil/fluid flag so people know to stop ASAP). anyway, ill be posting up some pics tommorow.

That would be me ;) , happy i could help .

adam

I must say big congrats to Chris (Scotsman) on a ripper time, a 1.22 on standard turbos is definetly something to brag about. I've got an extra 100rwkws and couldn't beat it!!!!

I must say I'm quite pleased with my result, especially for my first time out there, and believe it or not that time was done in the first session?!?!

Although I know the car is definetly good for a sub 20, the driver isn't.... at the moment anyway...

That back section after the straight is very intimidating, I'm slowing down quite a bit as I'm not confident with flying through there, especially when the wall is about 10 metres away. Maybe I need blinkers like the horses run, what u can't see won't scare you!!!!

Good to see the GTR boys (Aaron, Frank, Andrew(BBGTR), and of course Sam Markov!!) have a go, even though the track conditions deteriorated in the second session.... Oh well, there's always next time!!

Good on Ray(Blue S15) on punching out the 1.24, ur times keep dropping, that 1.22 is getting closer!!! Well done to Matt (GTTR34), a 1.27 is a great effort, pity about your car sounding like a tractor at the end of the day. Well done to Dane in completing his first track day, believe me it's all down hill from here, financing mods becomes number 1 priority!!

And good to see Jarrod and bel25 having some fun out there aswell....

Big thanks to Bec, James and Troy in officiating/marshalling, a lot of people don't realise without people like u, these track days would not run as smooth as they do...

And most importantly, WHERE'S THE PICS??????????????

Thanks Jack :(

And don't worry mate, financing mods has been my first priority for the last few years now... I'm so broke...but the car's going well!! haha

It was so tempting to turn the boost up a little higher all day, I was only running 1 bar, whereas I usually run 1.4 on the street, but the engine is still going, so I'm kinda glad I didn't!

A 1.22 is a great effort mate, you should be really happy with yourself. You GT-R boys are too quick :P

I agree mate. We all have to keep in mind that these days are meant to be fun and we shouldn't put pressure on people to punch out times. Sandown is a track that has claimed many Skylines, and i'm glad we didn't see that this time around. I must admit I feel more pressure at sandown, as people seem to use this as a benchmark and all the big cars come out to play.

I don't agree with you saying that it's easy to make a slow car go quick and harder to make a fast car go fast. I understand what your trying to get across about reaching the limits of the car, but at a track like sandown there is a lot of straight bits, and all these guys are pulling away from me fairly convincingly on the straight. At the risk of sounding stuck up, I had to work mega hard on my braking and corner speed to get a comparable time. I think without the oil on the track in the afternoon a 1.21.9 is possable.

Great weather on the day! Was some fast paced action out there, well done to everyone.. Was good to watch all the GTR's out there giving it some serious stick..

Impressive times Jack, car looked mint as always :D Chris is a damn good driver, go team stock turbos! :worship: Sam's 32 is awesome lol. No suprises with Sam blitzing the times..

Disappointed with my effort.. I blew a exhaust manifold gasket in the second session which basically ended my day.. not to mention the boost controller spiking its ass off to 1.4 bar on stock internals =/ AVC-R's suck ass..

Despite my shit day I enjoyed watching Ray mow down the field in the supersprint :D Well done mate.

Also kick ass effort Dane, the 180 looked and sounded tuff! Go team SR20 :)

Looking forward to getting back to Sandown next time..

Chris - I agree with you totally, I reckon if I take some of the corners as fast as you do, a 1.21 shouldn't be a problem, I'd say I make up a lot of time on the straights.... I think what Troy is trying to get at is when having big power it can be tricky getting out of corners when u plant it, when power comes on hard the car can be unsteady.... Although I didn't have that problem, maybe coz it was turning the inside tyre when exiting.... Oh well, here comes the 2 way LSD!!!!

Dane - Well done on the 1.28, great time for your first track day ever..

Wind up the boost next time, there's at least a second there!!!!

Matt - Don't worry, it only means your car will be back bigger, better, stronger!!!!! Gotta give Ray a run for his money next time!!!!

    • I checked the injectors again (1 and 2, since they’re easiest to access) to make sure they weren’t clogged. Even though the entire fuel system had been cleaned, I wanted to be certain. Everything looked clean, so I reinstalled and connected everything. When I started the car to confirm everything was okay, it immediately revved up high, so I shut it off straight away. I checked to see if I’d missed a vacuum hose or something, but everything was connected. On the second attempt, the car ran without the high idle, but I noticed a distinct “compressed air” sound coming from the engine bay. Tracing the sound, I pushed injector #6 forward slightly and the noise stopped — it turned out it wasn’t seated properly, despite the fuel rail being bolted down. While holding it in place, the car idled steadily without stalling and ran for over 5 minutes. At this point, I pulled all six injectors out just in case I hadn’t seated them correctly or dirt had gotten onto the O-rings. Unfortunately, I discovered that I had damaged 3 out of 6 injectors (the OEM 270cc ones) during installation. So yes, this was my fault. Since only the pintle caps were damaged, I’ve ordered a Fuel Injector Service Kit from NZEFI to refurbish them. In the meantime, I reinstalled my new injectors – the car now idles fine for over 15 minutes without stalling. I have not attempted to drive it so far. It’s not perfect yet, as it hesitates when the throttle is pressed, but it’s a big improvement. Unplugging the IACV with the new injectors idles at around 800rpm, even with the IACV screw tightened fully. But this is probably due to tune.
    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
