lordsnipe
they call R33 boats/whales ... pfft .. the soarer is worse! been in a v8 soarer, that was a cruiser, not a sports car, suspension was very spongey like a falcon or commodore... the interior was very nice but .. leather seats, a heap of options .. definitely better interior than the 33. ross80
um? If you read properley youll see I was not the one comparing the two cars. I was telling another member I understand what they are trying to say (not necesarilly agree with 100%). But thanks so much for your input. A supra and a sourer actually have the same stock (on paper anyway) power as each other. A gtst and a supra dont. So now your the one 'comparing' much different cars. So its nothing like that at all. But again, thankyou very much for your unwanted input into my 'apparent comparison'. lol Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/112259-1jzgte-v-rb25det/page/3/#findComment-2071442 Share on other sites
ross80
lordsnipe, I own a r33 and my best mate own a 32. They are not boats. My mates has more mods(mainly fuel related) and mine is still quicker. The weight difference is less than 50kgs. The sourer has a more lush interior with bells and whistles (kind of like a boat?). Yet the 33 doesnt? hmmmm. Whats that telling you. I like 33's as they are more spacious, only slightly heavier(but have more cubes anyway) and in my opinion more practical. You made the right choice. Lets start a new thread. titled "Boats vs Cars". lordsnipe
ross80, My point was that many ppl here (mostly R32 owners) consider the R33 as a boat/whale, as they are bigger and heavier. I was pointing out that the Soarer (in my opinion) fits this category, even moreso due to the soft floaty suspension that it has. I love my 33 and I make no regrets in buying mine. I fail to see how R33s are more practical than soarers though. Both in my mind are pretty impractical to carry people or big cargo in. mikymouse
1JZ should be compared to an RB26DETT, not an RB25DET. A 1JZ can make much more power on stock internals than an RB25, plus it's more refined overall. It is an exceptional and over-engineered engine. Plus, they are cheaper engines second-hand. Why? Because they rarely break, so little demand. Hmmm, RB25's seem to cost a lot second hand...I wonder what that means. Soares and R33's are both boats. Having just sold my Silvia, everytime I look into the garage to see my R33 I think, eeek it's soo big! Bliksem
My mate owns a manual tt soarer with 240rwkw. Quite a quick machine, but the manual feels like your rowing a boat compared to the nissan 5 speed. A short shift kit could change that perhaps. Silver_r33
1Jz has intake and exhaust on the opposite sides to the RB series. I dont think that the effort of putting one in would be really worth it, considering the rb26 and rb30 swaps are much more straight forward. Additionally, the exhaust being on the "wrong" side makes it closer to some things that you dont want to heat up... Sure you'd have bragging rights, but would it be worth it? TTT
you guys are missing my point. I initially said that 90% of the skylines out there are street only. maybe a few of that 90% take it to the drag strip... and only a handful see a circuit. talking about soft suspension and shit.. that's a bit silly. do you really think that a 95 skyline with 10 year old factory suspension is a good handling machine? everyone seems to change the suspension to a kit or jap parts or even king springs bro.. do the same to the soarer and it's in the same boat (pun intended). they are both largish cars with useless back seats for anyone larger than my wife and her twin. 1jz-747 - this is your car, yes?? what does it weigh? more or less than a soarer? by the way people.. the naming convention is.. R33 = Whale Soarer = land barge, or boat. get it right.. TTT
actually.. just continued reading... it says you weighed in at 3460 pounds.. which is about 1530kg same as soarer.. nice.. copycutter
Hahahaha Me and my friend had this argument for months at the end of last year. rb25's and 1j's are very hard to compare together, because the chassis' that Nissan and Toyota released them in. This is why we put these motors in the same chassis to compare. | | | | \/ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/112259-1jzgte-v-rb25det/page/3/#findComment-2072438 Share on other sites
TTT
and the result was? i remember reading about the 1jz in a 180.. rb25 in 180 is done many times. I think it was at the early stages of the 1jz in 180 so there wasn't much to tell. any update? copycutter
The update is this: we're poor At the moment i'm trying to iron out a problem and get some management, a clutch and a front pipe. He's going straight for the turbo, manifold, gate, and front pipe - as we've now discovered the cheating mofo has a mine's tuned ROM. We are both dead even, and mine is running 9psi to his 14psi, and my car has some weird boost cut/fuel cut who knows. But in an even chassis (ex - ca18 180's) he doesn't have the upper hand as easily as what he expected. Maybe the 1j is tougher for big power, but I think he honestly expected to walk on me with the same stuff. And I also think the way nissan designed the plenum on the rb20/25 held up some of the power and torque from the straight in - out design of the 1j. I'll keep you all posted if we get some money together and get a few more mods. 1JZ.747
$1500 keep going.Mine cost $2800 for a decent one. 500 hp seems a little hard to believe. A rb26dett out of a gtr has same stock power as yours, and with computr injectors and turbo upgrade that would be a bit of a pipe dream. ross80, just so you know you have pissed me off. how about i get my dyno sheet for 500rwhp, put it in your pipe an watch you smoke it. 3460 pound car, 130 mph trap speed, do the math. not only do i have a dyno sheet, but also about 10 time slips for that mph to back it up, want to call me a liar again?
