hey guys,

Im looking for a 3inch high flow cat...

Got quoted $300 for a Magnaflow high flow cat, its body is quite long, is this brand any good?

Would I be better off with something like Cato large body cat or X force high flow ?

What would you recommend?

Cheers !

I put one of them high flow metal cats in my GTR (barrel shaped stainless steel one) it's the bomb. As much power as running without one....I paid $420 for mine last year. It had 3 inch end flanges on it.

Scroll down the LHS and click on 'catalytic converters' and have a read. They sound good to me. Most of these high flow style cats are around $450 though.

Or try 'Magic cat'

FWIW my mate that runs an exhaust shop reckons that the metalcat cats outflow the other high-performance cats he

has fitted (catco) He won't fit the magic cats, I'm not sure whether this is because he thinks they're crap or because they're

plain illegal.

www.metalcat.com.au reckons that the xforce and magic cats are illegal, because they don't have a 'CA stamp' (info

on the homepage). Would anyone that has an xforce or magic cat look on it to find a CA stamp?

I'm going to fit the biggest damn metalcat I can find to my new exhaust, won't really be able to post 'before' and 'after'

dyno results though.

Regards,

Saliya

i have just bought one of the 3" stainless steel jobbies from just jap for $199

will let you know how it goes when it gets fitted tomorrow...

Yea I was looking at them x force ones from just jap or the Cato 3inch on these forums for $260....

I've just installed one of the xforce metal cats...3"

the actual cat bit is slightly larger, maybe 4" but the ends are 3"

driving wise I can definitely feel less restriction, boost comes on

earlier and quicker, less throttle at cruise, bit more responsive..

All in all I would say that its definitely worth it. Unfortunately I don't

have any experience with straight pipe replacement so can't comment

on that but I went from 3" catco high flow (large volume) to this and

can def. feel the difference..

Only problem is xforce ones don't come with anything stating its legal etc

like the metalcat type.. no stamps no nothing on the actual cat...

I'm getting the pfc tuned sometime this week and can post results if anyone

is interested... this is on sr20det with cams etc btw...

my xforce one has a sticker on the bottom saying it has been checked and certified, but there's no stamp on the biscuit material

you can't legally sell a catalytic converter if its not a catalytic converter.. companies would be up for millions in false advertising and civil lawsuits

Where did you get an X force 3 inch metal cat? Also how much for it?

On the JustJap website they only have a high flow 3 inch which I assume is ceramic inside...

what do you mean as in ceramic inside?

if your cat was ceramic inside does that mean the material of the honeycomb thing inside is ceramic not metal? what colour would that be?

i thought cats are all similar but high flows are 3mmx3mm spacing?

if you dont want restriction just hollow the cat.

Yea from what I've been hearing its the honeycomb inside of the cat thats either ceramic or metal, but im not sure what colours they are if you look at them.

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
