I did this fix to my GT-R about 8 years ago and it hasn't missed a beat since.

At the time, I wrote it all up but never got around to putting it up online.

One thing I would add is that I also found bad solder joints on the AFM board itself. Once I had the lid off the AFM, I repaired these as follows:

- carefully lever the copper cover upwards to gain access to the board beneath (see crappy photo - taken after resoldering)

- the three solder joints circled in red at bottom right of the top board were bad and needed resoldering

- the other solder joints circled in yellow on that board looked reasonable, but I resoldered them anyway

Note: Do not touch the lower board. It has been made using a completely different process (surface mounting) and is much more delicate. It also should not have the problem of “dry joints”.

Good luck!

Dave.

Wanted to bump this thread as well, because it fixed my problem with my R33 GTR.

My car wouldn't idle properly intermittently, and would sometimes miss, now it runs like dream!

Thanks, it's like a new car now!

My car doesnt rev up to 3k now, since I opened and cheked the AFM's yesterday, didnt do anything or resoldered, but before that, I experienced the same but I can manage to rev it higher just pumping the gas always, but now, I cant rev it high even often pumping the gas, I also clean the fuel filter checked the plugs and coil pack which seems ok. Now I dont know what to check next. Please help.

Had my car diagnosed and found error code 0012. w/c is AFM . So I told the mechanic it cannot be since I think the AFM is in good condition. So he decided to remove the socket while the engine is running and it died. so he ruled out that it might not be the AFM, he removed the silicon rubber inside the housing of the socket w/c is in not good condition and connect it again and whoalla!! It run as normal condition, we decided to diagnose again and the error was gone but another came out w/c is code 0055 (condition normal). we checked the code error here in this forum and it was listed "No Malfunction". I will drive test it later just to be sure!!

Great help on this forum!!!

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
