yeah i know.. i do care about the power/weight.. at the same time i dont.. i can easily get away with it by modifying a car that is under the power/weight limit to begin with... as aposed to the gtst25 which is over as of stock!

anyhow, too late i allready have a gts-4.. its not THAT bad.. yeah its pretty slow, but it handles bloody well!

How is it a stock rb20det if it has forged pistons and the likes? And i presume you mean turn off the altessa system fuse if you are referring to simply running rwd?

yeah it does have forgies but when you look at the mods hes listed there isnt that much more spent on doing forged pistons. from memory its only running 260kws at the wheels. you obviously wouldnt run this much power howevereven getting close and you still have a fast car.

here in nz people get rid of their gst's and modify gts4's much more often and there are quite a number doing late 12's on stock engines with 550cc injectors, an old t3/t4 and computer.

i think people here probably arent giving them the respect they deserve. sure they are heavier than the gtst but they have a thing called traction which is much more effective than any massive turbo

Damn straight SirRacer, give me a twisty mountain pass any day, the weather may be rubbish in tassie but thats not a problem behind the wheel of my gts4 :( you can keep your 1/4 mile

Now can anyone tell me how strong the gearbox is? will it handle hard launches? or will I lunch it? (mine is virtually stock atm, but 'I have a mighty NEED!')

it should handle a fair bit.

RIPS in NZ has told me that he's had his and a customers GTS4 run 10's on stock gts4 gearbox (RB30det engine).

he has since gone to GTR box but he did manage a few runs on the factory box. considering the torque the rb30det would need to put out to propell the car to a 10, I'd say you would be fine to side step a few 5000rpm or more launches.

Cool, but a GTST can do easy 12s as well with the same mods. The main problem in my eyes with the GTS4 is that it is too heavy a car for the poor old RB20...if it had a 25 they would be great cars

I personally would change your list to:

1. 3" turbo back exhaust

2. black front mounted intercooler with pipes that return underneath cooler and use standard pipes

5. Bosch 040 fuel pump

7. retuned factory ecu

Much much cheaper, will still go well and be fun. At the end of the day i supose its your car and your free to modify it however you want...but unless you really love the car then you will be getting rid of it as soon as your licence allows so dont waste money on it now.

If your a dunce liek me and love the car to the bone....lol...get a budget of 13k and go crazy :P

Save the $$$ for a GTR in 2 years!!!

Think about the cash you spend now, and what you could have with it in a few years

haha ash, aww your very keen on me waiting a further 3 years hey :)

i can definatly see the financial advantages and it does make sense!

however ive had skyline fever since i was 14.. i waited 3.5 long hard years and saved DAMN hard during that time to be able to afford my r33.. it was pretty much my dream car for my realistic achievable budget....

now that dream is over.... im sick of waiting... im not gonna sit around for another 3 years waiting for a gtr

most likely in 3 years time i'll get a gtr anyways

$4k on mods is nothing considering im still at home, my parents pay for my everyday living expenses

so i can see why a few of you are sugesting i just wiat and go the gtr.. but in the mean time i'd rather have fun, enjoy the car i currently have (r32 gts-4) and mod it as a bit of an experiment... if it turns out to be a flop... then oh well.. it will have been a fun exercise!

thanks for the reply, but not really what i was after...

i said i couldnt have an r33 gts-t due to power reasons and the police... an r32 gtr isnt going to be any different!

i cant have an rb26 for this reason.. hence why i want to work the rb20 for some power

i dont have the money to go screwing around with the engine itself, eg hybrid engines... thats why i want to look into good efficient bolt ons

Can I remind you that if you mod a car up to a point where it exceeds the power / weight rules, then the power / weight rules become applicable. You end up in the same boat as if you had the R33 or the GT-R.

Yes, it's harder to be detected, but the police are getting pretty smart when it comes to imports and mods.

im not going to go into a debate about this.. but its a little thing called "innocent until prooven guilty"

they had proof that my r33 was over the limit as of STOCK

where as my r32 is under the power limit stock.. and its up to them to PROOVE that my car is over power/weight.. assumption wont be good enough

eg police will have to pay to have the engine removed, and the engine with mods engine dyno'd and then put the engine back and weigh the thing!

it isnt going to be worth thier while!

they are more interested in going after people who are driving high powered vihicles that they can proove with a piece of paper that it is over!

Stuff the GTR = Bloody deep pockets

Sell the GTS-4 and buy a slugg. Then Buy an S15 when the license permits which responds better "bang for buck" wise than any skyline

Don't get me wrong, I love my skyline but it's a tough streeter (super tourer), as they were designed (except the obvious model) Not a weapon!

how many times does the man have to say he is keeping the car?

for f*ks sake....

he isn't asking if he should do the mods.

he is saying what will the mods produce.

:P thank you!

finally someone thinking on my level.... lol i dont need other people to spend my money for me :)

i allready decided what i want to do, just what power i'll get and perhalps some slightly better mods that i could do other then the ones i listed

im doing this more as a bit of an experiment.. you dont hear of alot of gts-4's

i wouldnt mind seeing what they can do...

im getting the feeling it will be same weight as gtr with less torque and more throttle lag... but oh well,... its still gonna be interesting... wouldnt mind seeing what happens with turboX's gts-4 after dr.drift is finished with it

If you don't need people to spend your money for you, why are you asking people what mods. They cost money last time I checked!

You don't need to waste another thread then as the path to power on an RB20 is a WELL trodden path!

There are heaps of GTS-4's out there. Are you blind? Only most I've seen through the workshop have had an RB26 slotted in before import because they're such a slug

No need to just feel it's a fact!

    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
    • My experience with Rising Sun Exports Before agreeing to the sale I tried to do as much research as I could (obviously), his Facebook reviews are 98% and he goes Live at least once or twice a week. I contacted 2 people in the UK who had used him for their imports, both had positive feedback. His explanation and talk through of the import process was thorough, answering any query no matter how stupid it was. It felt as soon as the money was sent, communication dropped off. I asked for shipping updates every 2 weeks or so, not wanting to pester him, he never had any updates. I wasn't informed the car had been dropped off at the port, I only found out by his Facebook story. I asked for the photos taken at the port, knowing he would need some for insurance purposes. I received a few 5 second clips and that's it. When asked again, he said his staff had them. Weeks later I asked again, he tells me he doesn't have any, but does have 50 photos from the original advert. I never received them. I eventually got the documents sent via WhatsApp after I mentioned the port was requesting them. I purchased a CarVX report, to find out the vehicle is a Grade R with recorded accident damage, first recorded in 2017 when it was first auctioned. He never told me the grade, then again I didn't ask. His response was "Grade R means nothing, it wasn't chassis damage". Still, I would have liked to have been informed about it. Jon prides himself on being open and honest when it comes to inspecting cars, it's his main job doing so at the auctions for customers. When the vehicle arrived in the UK I noticed a few little cosmetic issues. It's a 21 year old car so it wasn't going to be mint condition. The side skirts are cracked on each corner and the sealant is failing. The front grill on the bonnet/hood isn't secured very well, mounting studs are missing. Both minor things, but again, it would have been nice to be told. During a Facebook Live walk around video of the vehicle, he mentioned it has a front Whiteline anti roll bar/sway bar. While on the inspection ramp, I noticed the stock item has been installed. When first questioned, his response was "the ARB? Switched? Since when, it never had them". Since sending video and photo evidence I've not received a response. I'm probably being over critical of the overall condition of an old car, but all I wanted was honesty (which he claims to have). I'm aware I wasn't his only customer, he's busy doing XYZ but other reviews praise him for great communication with regular updates and photos, I felt I didn't receive the same treatment.
    • I was able to get some underside photos while the car was on the ramp The suspension is all Altezza/IS200/IS300 so getting part's will hopefully be less of a headache
