Hi Guys,

Amongst all the threads around in regards to cops I thought I better put up my little story from this weekend.

I was just going for a short trip down to Canberra for fun, on the way managed only to see 1 cop on the M5, saw 6 cops in a matter of 15 mins during my time in Fyshwick, and another 4 around Parliment House.

Naturally being a green P Plater, doing a "little" over the speed limit on the long stretches (long trip) and having amonst other things defectable items of gauges galore, load exhaust, 18" rims, POD and an atmo venting BOV, I usually need a change of pants whenever I see the boys in blue behind me.

First cop of the day was on the M5, just a guy and a gal in a hwy patrol car, gave me a wave and a thumbs up on their way past. I had seen them earlier in the bushes catching people travelling north and had to adjust my speed a little.

Around Fyswick, all cops seemed to be more than happy to let me go about my business. Managed to somehow pull up at lights next to two of them, windows down, didn't even blink when they saw the twin guage mount on the a-pillar or the guage in the middle of the dash.

Parked the car on the side of the road on a backstreet just to check the oil and test out the fireworks purchased (not at the same time) ..... didn't get around to checking the fireworks, however two cops pulled in behind me thinking I had broken down. Advised them that as I was making a long trip from Syd and back, just wanted to make sure the car was ok. They had a look over the car with the bonnet up at the time, commented on the new S03 rubber looking "phat" from behind, and had time to tell me about the fireworks show that would be on that night in the city. Then they were off ....

All in all, the boys in blue were more than helpful and seemed to be doing their job. Congrats to them, they deserve a pat on the back !

Jimbo... always good to hear stories of cops respecting those drivers, P platers or otherwise, that are driving safely on the road rather than seeing them as a target in their modified car.

Sydney cops take note!

Jimbo,

Yeah I must say that the Police around Canberra are pretty good and fairly friendly.

Basically if your not driving like an idiot, or got a wheel hanging off, they'll leave you alone.

I work right next door to a major police station and drive past them at least twice a day and they don't even think twice.

The only time I've been pulled over in the Skyline in the last two years was 3 days after a bought it, and that was because I didn't have a front number plate on. No defect, he just said to takeit over the pits and get the rego changed over into my name.

Man - you should have let me know that you were comming down, we could've met up and gone for a quick cruise..

Next time..

J

Jay : Didn't really know myself until I got in the car. It was one of those "hey lets go to Canberra" things :D I gave Shell I call but didn't get to catch up, unfortunately my navigational skills are bad at the best of times, let alone with almost all of Canberra out in force to see the fireworks, were you on the lake ? btw, whats your mob # for next time ?

The only real trouble I had with a cop in Canberra was rolling down the grass ontop of Parliment House ... he told me I should try rolling down the bit that was just grass without the cement every ten meters ;) Hehehe

I tried a bit of Hill Climb styling up to Telstra Tower however there seemed to be a walker / jogger / hiker on every corner so I gave up .... on the way down I had a professional driver who decided that brake fade was his friend, the smell was fantastic, I've never seen anyone on brakes the entire way down a hill that big .... I went down in 2nd and still found myself having to drop back to 1st to avoid catching him ....

btw. Love those series of round abouts in Fyshwick (is it Dairy Road ? or Newcastle Road or something ?) I kept getting lost so decided to do a few laps for good measure. Counted a total of around 14 porn stores, and five red faced guys with brown paper bags (note to self, don't point them out next time) ... :)

LOL - that's funny.

Yeah, out in fyshwick there damn porno places everywhere !!

I didn't go to this years Skyfire. Had too much on already so something had to give.

Canberra is the round-a-bout capital. They are everywhere. They are real fun, but you find that your left front tyre always wears more on the outside edge :)

Yepp, drop me a SMS or call when your next down - no. is 0414 707 105.

Cheers

J

i see it as harrassment jimbo! if you needed their god damn help you would've flagged them down!

you should've told them to go catch some real crooks instrad of looking for an excuse to give you a ticket cause ultimately i think this is what they were trying to do ...

maybe im being cynical, but thats the way i see it...

They seemed fairly genuine, I mean I was out the back of Fyswick at 6:00 pm, on the side of the road with the blinker on and the bonnet up .... I was actually waiting for her to cool down a bit so had her counting down on the TT ... The way I see it they could have immediately got me for that, let alone everything else.

Thank god they didn't see the 8 boxes of crackers behind the passenger seat :D Oh wait, they're perfectly legal in ACT arn't they ;)

Actually they're not! (Unless you live out of the ACT)

The only time ACT ppl are allowed to buy them for themselves is the Queens Birthday. Other than that weekend, we're only allowed to buy them for interstate people! ;)

Shell, can you ever forgive me :D I was all over the shop trying to find my way around, I figured I'd keep the dream alive (until I really realised I was lost) .... I loved the constant "hey, it's a skyline !!" eminating from the crowds on the way back after the fireworks ...

I'm coming to Canberra more often for that sorta treatment :)

note : to the kid watching the fireworks who wanted in on my two bags full of KFC ... the word is PLEASE .. no manners gets you no KFC !

Cops are tops :D

I guess it's like anything, it comes down to the person doing the job. Some of them are nice and others are bastards!

Just don't go to Braddon on a Friday night...!

Anyway besides that, from stories I have heard from NSW ppl, ACT cops seem a heap better. :burnout:

Just to keep the story going. Went to QLD this weekend, stopped over in Armadale .... cops there were fantastic also ...

I arrived a little late in the evening, were a lot of drunk Uni students around, and about 6-7 cop cars (2 unmarked).

First the Uni students were great, I think I shook hands with about 20 of them, I kept getting commodores full of them coming up and asking me a lot of questions, escorting me around to the Shell and Eagle Boys, they were really genuine, really liked the car, almost got me in a lot of trouble ... take note, do not try to impress Uni students :(

Just to give a group of them a bit of show, torched their mate, even after spinning first second and third ..... settled after that and just cruised around.

Stuck to the speed limit, not a prob in the world, even pulled a cop over at 1:00am to ask him if he knew any motels / inns that were staffed 24/7 so I could crash and he helped me out .... Talk about role reversal ...

Top night, I scored $55 and a flash of a lass' chest (some guys paid me to give them a lift, just to be seen in the car, only 300m ... the lass I can't explain, I think it was the car more than me :) )

I'm starting to think cops in general are pretty alright ...

Well I gave in once to their request to let her go down the main street ... I almost gave it another go from the other end however my wits got the better of me, just as I was warming for the run out of a roundabout, decided to keep going round and off to the right .....

... just as I casually did so, who do I but Mr.Plod in my rear view mirror :uh-huh: I'm sure if I had decided to lose some traction it would not have been too pleasant on the wallet.

    • Yep, I really miss mine. I dont, however, miss it's understeer. Hard to find a genuine 'Sport' model these days. That sounds awesome! Good fun and great result!  I'd love to do a 1/4 in mine now that its reasonably healthy with the tune. I last did a run in my white GTR, I think it was a 12.3 and I can't remember the mph and I think the little E90 might be quicker.
    • FWIW, I made 372kW on a Mainline dyno, with a stock motor (bar head studs & usual bolt ons) on E85 (pretty timid timing in the mid range) and it blew up after a year of track use. Probably got like 5~6 Wakefield track days and 1x skid pan somewhere in between.
    • Plus, if you want to shoot for over 300rwkW, the Z32 won't really cut it and retaining the PowerFC is getting to be a poor choice. You're going to be much happier with management that can actually see what's going on and have a hope of stopping it from going bad when something breaks (think oil pump). So, the $$ situation is probably different to what you think it is.
    • 350-400kw will not keep that basically stock motor basically stock very long, especially for track only use. It will decide to need a rebuild pretty quickly. I'd go smaller, and not cheap out with a Pulsar item based on older tech. Get a G25 550/660. Just better in every way. Don't think about changing a turbo until AFTER you change your injectors (S15 injectors x6? What CC are those?) and coils/fuel pump. They won't keep up with any aftermarket turbo.
    • Hey everyone,   Probably been covered 100 times but i couldn't see anything when searching  Time has come to replace / upgrade my turbo, dont have any crazy plans for the build maybe 350 - 400kw in the future  Engine is a basically stock R33 RB25DET apart from Apexi power FC, S15 injectors, Boost controller, Z32 AFM, Cold air intake, free flow exhaust  have been looking at the Pulsar GTX3076R 0.82 will this be a good option? wont be upgrading the injectors and coils till next year then pushing for 300kw so dont want anything to laggy in the mean time, car is track only not street   TIA
