I'd suggest the quickest GTS-T award might be closer to this mark

8.625 @ 161, 1.39 to 60 ft, half track 5.58 at 130 mph, maintaining the IRS with a powerglide , a shot of gas and a RB26

all cheating when you go to the auto and add gas.... Just jokin.. Good on ya Hiroki Matsumoto :(

BTW, I've run quite a few 9 sec passes at around 145 mph using a crossply rear and radial front, and never had a problem - its legal to do so in NZ, where the tracks are dodgy (being polite, some are downright crap). Ovrer in Australia, I was forced by the rules to run front runners, and have noticed absolutely SFA difference in the ride stability compared to the radial front/crossply rears.

My theory is with the independent rear suspension, stability in the big end is much better than something with a live axle.

Ben D S12 Gazelle RSX, 9.38 and 153.9 mph, 1.33 to 60 ft, stock IRS and 5 speed manual

Is that the one with the tube chassis, and nothing more than a seat, cage, mighty rear tubs... Oh... and a steering wheel?

Have you checked out projectgtst.com ?

It has a carbon fibre dash and nothing inside the cabin - not so difficult to compare.

Benny, I think the stability in the Gazelle comes from the lack of door trims

Seriously though, I've seen 12 second R33's suffer from xply/radial combos.

Adrian

No, it has door trims, just alloy ones, not OEM. Must be when you take the headlining out when you add the rollcage. All that extra 2 kg of weight in the roof must be what does it, though I thought that the metal in the cage would off set that somewhat....

Might be the tyre pressure difference between fronts and backs then ? I never run really low tyre pressures (less than 15 psi) so maybe thats it.

actually i didnt

I would have thought it wouldnt have been totally stripped to around 1200kg's... thats intense

Is Brett's stripped? What does he tip the scales too?

I know Ryan Quinn's still has the full dash and all that jazz, being its street driven etc. So probably around the 1400kg mark, if not more

Brett who?

Hi guys,

Many thanks for some of your kind comments.

God knows if we have taken the right decision to go down the RB25 route but if you dont try then you'll never know i guess.

Please dont think all of the shouting about the time means we dont realise how far behind we still are from you guys with the times you have set (RB26 or not) ie/ awesome 9.4 etc etc. I nearly died of shock when I found out someone in japan has done an 8.6 sec pass ! - lol

Have to say it's great to be talking to you guys in Aus as for years now you have been developing GTST drag cars whilst in Europe there has not been an awful lot of activity (best previous UK best time 11.2 secs).

I honestly do think we can get an 8 out of the engine we have at the mo - may take some time though.

We have a lot of testing to do before October when the car next runs & finally we can turn the nos on now & turn the boost on thanks to finding grip with the suspension. The gearbox will make the biggest difference in terms of time saving but what a great box the std has been too date - so bloody strong.

We will also need to look at the drive shafts - snapped both off last time as well - lol

Be great to see another 8 sec GTST anywhere in the world whether it's in Aus , Uk or anywhere - they have been overlooked for far far too long

John

Mate, I'm really not trying to be cheeky - unusual for me I know :) - but if the above is true, why the crowing about an FIA certifiable record on GTR.CO.UK ?

Good to hear from you John, love to follow your exploits as you work towards an 8 in your beast!

    • This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.
    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
