IMPORTD
I was just wondering if anyone here has tinted the front windows? Did you run into problems matching up the tint? I like how it is at the moment, but I'm thinking in summer with 40+ in Perth some days, tinting is going to help... with a black car, perhaps its just wishful thinking Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/128291-tinting-front-windows/ Share on other sites
Ska
Any half decent tinter should be able to match it up for you, problem is will it be legal. Here in QLD, the same darkness tint on the front to the back is illegal, meaning you can get defected for it. IMPORTD
probably wont be legal... I've noticed of late alot of cars getting around with that mirror type tint... sticks out like dogs balls... I don't think our coppers here are that harsh on tint. qikstagea
yep lookin at gettin that done but its a bit xxy. It just cuts back glare, but you can still see through it easily, and is VERY hard to notice. I saw it in a 4WD and the difference is amazing, hey. I walked into a mazda dealer a few years ago (dont ask why i was in a mazda dealer i will get shot in here if i say it out). The salesman told me it was illegal for them to touch or put anything in the windscreen. I was looking to get it done in my cars cos its a bit oht over the summer. I will check with the window tinitng place tommorow. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/128291-tinting-front-windows/#findComment-2372222 Share on other sites
IMPORTD
yes windscreen tint is illegal. God knows why. I would think having another film on there would prevent shattering? When I had my laser I couldn't get the windscreen done due to that blue strip at the top... I'm not one to follow all the laws they make. Even my parents are thinking about the clear tint for the windscreen and they never break the law!! I'm not one to follow all the laws they make. Even my parents are thinking about the clear tint for the windscreen and they never break the law!! As far as I know, the front windscreen is usually UV-blocking anyway, regardless of whether it has (or someone pusts) a visible tint on it or not. And they are laminated, so when it breaks it's supposed to shatter, but not fall to bits and leave millions of little shards of glass all over the car and the passengers. I'm guessing the front windscreen tint is an ADR thing, not just depending on each state's own laws. I think I might consider lightly tinting my front two door windows, just so people have a harder time looking in the car - I don't usually leave stuff visible in my car (this is ASKING for theives), but there is some stuff that just can't be hidden in a glovebox. Another reason why I want black-face gauges is because they won't stand out anywhere near as much. Terminal
i'd get the front tinted to maximum legal just for the heat reduction factors. i've been some pretty hot places, but with the windows up and ac on the harshness of the sun is reduced quite significantly just with 30% tint on the front windows. -FUZZY-
legal is 35% ... well at least in vic. IMO l wouldn't go any darker than 20% on the front window's, yeah it'll look great, but at night any darker than that will be a bitch to see out of, plus if ur in an acco & your tint is darker on the front window's, your insurance company can void your insurance. 66yostagea
I mentioned elsewhere that my taigate tint is so dark the reversing lights are ineffetive. It is definately an after market tint. Its ok for me to reverse as I use the mirrors, whereas my wife cant at this stage. There is a lot of press about reversing safety to the point where a reversing camera may one day be mandatory. Now if you have a tailgate tint AND front windows tint rear vision at night will be seriously diminished. Factory spec is tinted rears and UV cut for tailgate,(and maybe front and windscreen?) Is the tailgate laminated or old fashioned safety? I know the Subaru was not laminated caus when it broke it went into a thousand bits held together by the demister element. Stagea tailgate is much flatter so could be laminated? AlexCim
I personally wouldnt ever ditch the stagea VIP look about it. Its one of the things that I love most about them, the rears being so dark and the fronts not. I find in summer that it can get pretty hot if i have the window open, but at long as its closed its more than enough to cut out the heat as long as the aircon is on. MrGTST
Havent got the front driver or passenger window tinted yet, but I will be getting it done in the near future... There is no way you will be able to match the rest of the car cause it will be too dark... ie Yellow sticker but I will probably be getting that Midnight Express, darkest legal tint... I can only hope it matches up close enough... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/128291-tinting-front-windows/#findComment-2372917 Share on other sites
Sydneykid
Be careful, the Stagea front (side) windows are already tinted, just not as dark as the rear (side) windows. When a tint test is done it is both the stick on film and the glass tinting that affects the readings. So you can’t just use the maximum legal tint material on the front, when added to the standard tinted glass it will fail the test. As far as I am aware the rear (rear) window can be tinted as dark as the rear (side) windows. After all, it’s no “darker” than the dipping rear vision mirror effect. cheers Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/128291-tinting-front-windows/#findComment-2373300 Share on other sites
