Ok all you oil tech heads.

I dont need to knwo which oil is best for my engine. I need to know which crappy oil (or good oil) has the most detergents etc to assist in flushing out an engine.

I asked this about 2 yearsa ago and noone really knew. I ask as my car has sat idle for 12 months with the occassional turn over and the lifters are noisy as hell and oil black.

So i wany o turn it over, dump the oil.Put in the high detergent oil and give it a good run, then duump it as well.

Any thoughts???

Probably telling you something you already know but many years ago I was told to use Diesal engine oil to flush the motor, and yes it did work well. The old 202 came up mint..

Would i use it to clean my skyline?well no I wouldnt as its very hard to find here in a low enough weight,I'd be looking at the thinnest oil i could buy to flush it.

If you really want to clean her up throw some Mobil Delvac 1 in. Its a diesel full synth 5w40 and can be picked up for under $60 ($50 here in Adelaide)

Don't let diesel scare you, its perfectly fine in a petrol engine and meets the API SL specification for gasoline engines, mobil state so them selves.

OR.. Even better, throw Motul 300v through it, nothing cleans like an ester based oil.

Bob is the Oil Guy

Don't waste your money on any oil to 'clean out'. They are not designed to clean up crap left behind by other oils. If you must have an oil that has a high amount of detergents, pick up a bottle of Caltex Delo 400 for $30. Its on par with Delvac 1.

Even then more detergents doesnt mean it cleans existing deposits better.

Whilst we're here, I was quoted $79 trade for Mobil 1 last week!? I nearly fell off my chair! I remember buying it for my 180SX and it was under $50

ps ceasefire signed and already crude prices have fallen  hurrah on both counts

Well the3 cheap Castrol Diesel oil seems to have done the job. Did 600kms on it then dumped it hot and ran the good oil. Engine has lost all the crap from inside the rocker cover that was the by product of a years worth of cold starts and moisture/condensation build up in the engine

Troy my uncle Peter works at Mobil in VIC (he has for about 20+ years).. he's a lubricant specialist or whatever and now he's on the phones and answers those same questions on a daily basis. I'll find his number and give it to you.. I was going to organise to have him at an SAU meeting ages ago but haven't gotten around to it. *slack

Here you go: Lubeline 1800 033 863 Peter Morus :nuke:

(for future reference)

How a about a tutorial in the section with what oild did you use to clean, how long did you have to run it and where to get? Maybe add some back up documents.

I myself use Wurth engine oil flush which if you'd like to find out more, they sponsor the historic racing day in Sandown which you're coming right?
