Don't get a new turbo till you change that 2.5" exhaust for a 3" one, otherwise the turbo you get won't make bugger all of a difference, all you'll be doing is restricting the crap out of it with the exhaust you have.

And while you're getting that new exhaust, and while you want that much power of that RB20, you'd better get one with a split dump pipe

Do a search mate...everything you want to know will be answered...its been covered heaps of times...first things first...you have to decide how much power you're aiming for...and then go from there...have a look at the rb20 thread in the sticky section...you should be able to get a good idea from there...

the sticky thread has suggestions on all upgrades for an rb20det.

if you read through you'll see results on various turbos.

people who have actually experienced the different ones have given comment. i personally have used a rb25 turbo for a cheap/mild upgrade and also a hksGT2530.

just have a read and try to sift through the bullshit and decide what you think is the result you're after and start sourcing one.

sounds like you have a good base (apart from that exhaust) and a few more mods to come then just a turbo selection and a tune. have fun.

i actually just checked my exhaust i think it might be 3 inch it looks big and its loud i measured it and its probably just under 3 inch from the outer material im not sure how thick the metal is

how do they measure exhaust size is it from inside diameter or outside?

i might have to ask someone who knows go past an exahust place or something

do you really think it would make a big difference with a 2.5 exhaust?

Most people go with a HKS 2530 (200 - 230 RWKW)

You could get GCG to hi flow your stock turbo that will set you back about $2000 and give you a bit more power then the 2530, I have a hi flow waiting to go on I just need money haha.

but yeah rb20s dont put on much of a show off boost so be very careful not to get something too big, had a t04e on mine for a while, was good once u were boost about 4900 5000 real good, but sucked until then no fun on the street.

Yeh as some one said b4 the 2530 unless you can affrd to hi flow a rb25 turbo (non hi flowed rb25 turbo probably wont see you through to 200+) or maybe a vg30 if you dont mind some lag (some one selling hi flowed examples for fairly cheap on these forums)

Yeah im so unsure i want about 230rwkw

but i want it to be quick off the line and not too much lag

the standard turbo isnt too bad for lag but no real power

im thinking ball bearing turbo but dont know what

it has to be fun on the street too

Get a 2nd hand 2510 then...or get a 320-350hp turbo Garret turbo. Better aerodynamics, still bb and you can wind some decent boost into it unlike with an R33 turbo.

If tuned well the RB20 is pretty happy at 1.2 bar, so it seems a shame to go to the expense of getting a new turbo on the car. New gaskets, chnage coolant/oil etc, get the thng tuned accordingly only to be limited to about 1 bar.

With a small steel wheel turbo you can keep the response but boost it on up and get reasonable power.

Can anyone put up a plot of an R33 turbo on an RB20 which has been tuned for fuel and ignition?

I am in the same boat RB20det with standard turbo.

I have had an RB20 with an RB25 turbo before and it is a good thing but 180 to 195 is the best you can get out of them.

If you want 210 to 230 a 2530 is the go.

I have found it really hard to find one and am now looking at other options.

Is there a Disco Potato available for the RB20 in the same pattern?

If not I will be going a hiflow like every man and his dog. because it will bolt straight on and look stock.

Are there any other turbos that are suited to the 20 other than

2510, 2530, td06 20g?

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
