Booked in my r32 gtst for a $14 pedders suspension check, seeing as I've only had the car for a week would like to know if there are any problems to be fixed.

Results were:

Shock absorbers:

Left front: 27

Right front: 27

Left rear: 22

Right rear: 24

Pedders stated new shocks are rated 22, so nothing needs to be fixed there.

Only problem were:

Upper inner bushers worn $137

Slight play lhs mounts moving

LAB $132

Wheel align $55

Total ~ $324

Should I go ahead and book the service with pedders?

Also spoke to the person about pedders extreme suspension vs japanese made, he says pedders australian built and made for aus conditions plus not as stiff as imported :(

Thanks

what is a LAB?

For inner arm bushes you should check out whiteline or notlec adjustable camber bushes.

Alignment price is good for a 4 wheel alignment but make sure you get the other work done first

Pedders charge $110 for a 4 wheel alignment.

The above quote is just the front wheel alignment

For bushes & your suspension needs its hard to go pass Whiteline items. Also, if Pedders had some idea about the Skyline they would of advised you to have a 4 wheel alignment done. SydneyKid has listed - Centeline Thomastown; & Traction Tyre & Suspension Rowville, as reputable suspension places in VIC.

I took my GTR into Pedders up here for the $14 check & dropped a few comments as hooks-in-the-water to see if they'd bite & yep, they sure did!!

Firstly they wouldn't let me in the workshop to SHOW me what needed to be replaced, which to be fair is the letter of the law BUT then they came back with a list of needing to completly dis-assemble the rear-cradle & replace all the bushes along with the front steering-rack being shot & needing to be re-built or replaced. Stupid $$$ & 2wks later I could have my car back.....

I then took it to a mates workshop & put it on the hoist. The car needs a RH front tie-rod end, a front CV-boot & not a lot else. Whilst the rest isn't brand-new, it doesn't need replacing right now either.

Anyway that's my experience, make of it what you will

that's pretty cheap. most good place i know charge between 100 and 150 if we are talking:

adjust front toe

adjust rear toe

adjust front castor

adjust front camber

adjust rear camber

that's a fair bit of stuff to do, and after doing camber things must be checked again as it can affect castor. and after doing castor another check is required. so it takes time.

Mate you could take a new car their and they would say it would need changing. :P

When the inspection was finished, they left my car on the hoist and asked me to follow him into the workshop. He then showed me what was wrong and what needed to be fixed, then lowered the car and printed out the invoice etc.

Havent done anything yet, looking around at other options.

Thanks :)

Pedders and my local import speciallist gave me an identical list of suspension issues, so I figured that what they were telling me was reasonable. Always get a second opinion if you think you're getting taken for a ride!

Or could it be that Pedders and my mechanic are conspiring against me?!?!?!

Mate you never know.

These pedders outlets are franchises and i spose its the luck of the draw of which one you take it too.

They probly get a 6 week training course of how too rob people legally and get thrown into the business without a clue. Some pedders may be good depends on the owners. All they want is profit which im sure everyone wants, but not robbing people they way they do it.

My experience never go back.

But wouldnt Joe Blow who "specialises" in Skylines and other imports would wonna rip you just as much as Pedders in this case? At the end of the day, everyone wants to make money. If you really want to save a buck, become friends with a mechanic and get him to check your car over, this is the only way.

My family friend mechanic told me today that you dont need to machine all disk rotors when changing brake pads... often its not needed at all but 9/10 places will tell you to do it, why? more money for them.

I cant imagine how much chicks get ripped everytime they service their cars...

    • The real question is, on some of those wild roads they call highways, how many times did a farmer in an old ute from the early 2000s blaze past you over double lines?   Tassie is a wild and really cool place, and after doing a work related road trip there January of 24, I understand why Targa Tasmania is ran there, and is so tough to do well at! We had a brand new Camry Hybrid that handled quite nicely, and thankfully weren't in an old car, because cresting some of those hills in a 100kmh zone for it to suddenly be like "surprise f**kers, this is a recommended 30kmh hard right turn" wouldn't be pretty. We weren't racing the Camry around, but we weren't slouching in the bends either. But my lord those old farmers know their old clapped out utes, and those roads, as they were absolutely hammering it!   You're also super lucky to make it up to Mt Wellingtong this time of year. It's often road closed with snow/ice! Also, I hope you hit up Salamander Road in Hobart for some insanely good food (I highly recommend the dimly lit Irish pub for a Guiness Pie, or even the bangers and mash!!!)   How long did the Ferry take to get across? I want to do a road trip of Tas on my own time, but I get horrifically sea sick, and I don't want me on the Ferry, just the car 😛
    • So far so good, about 30km on it so far and nothing out of sorts yet thankfully
    • Look at @Kinkstaah's thread on the issue.
    • Hmm not really, I'd say its race car life or modified car life when you make 3 or 4 times the power Nissan designed the car for lol.
    • I'll let others with more breakage chime in, but I can't think of anyone who had a problem with the standard centre plate before they had a problem with the standard gears - the plate generally just gets replaced for safety when the gearset is upgraded. As for the gearsets, its not like they are OK at 600Nm and break at 601. Their longevity is a combination of how much torque you are making and how gentle you are on shifts (or not).
