Having Problems Choosing a Plenum :)

Candidates:

Plazmaman

Unique Auto Sports

Trust/Greddy

All around the same price ($50 difference here or there)

Currently running an RB25 with a t67-25g - making approx 500hp atw (slightly more hasnt been run in a while) on a mild to safe tune. Upgrading the whole intake side of the engine to the following specs.

GTR ITB's

Aftermarket Rail + Injectors

Custom Plenum

Trust Intercooler with Custom Piping

Anybody have any experience with one or more of these plenums and can provide some feedback, I know the TRUST plenum is expressly designed for big power huge turbo setups, wheras my car is a drift car believe it or not. Makes full boost by 3500rpm and I dont want to sacrifice too much response. Have heard good things about the plazmaman plenums from a few ppl, and the UAS site is the only one I can find with dyno graphed results and it looks to be the goods in terms of design and quality.

Basically I want something that is going to facilitate similar response to the standard item with increased flow. The ITB's are being professionally cleaned, I have a CNC Machined Adaptor and will be getting the lot port matched. Head is extremely worked, 275deg stage 3 HKS camshafts, race ported, valves, springs retainers... its all been done.

Any input would be greatly appreciated

there was a big topic on this just recently, but i use a plenum made by Ariel @CPC Plenums ( ISL33P) on these forums...great quality, look awesome, extremely well priced, flow great....

ben...

there's always hypertune...good shit!

and about response u should do some research ...u dont really lose any.

but as many people on this forum say stick to f**king stock because it's good and cheap amd there's no f**king point to change.... f**king retards!

just venting..hahahahahahah :O:dry:

i agree that the gains would be minimal.

possibly better response as it will shorten the inlet piping to the manifold.

Another one you could look at is the one made by RIPS(rotorua import performance shop). I think thats what it stands for.

Just re-read your first post.

So you have about 380rwkw on a T67 25g.

With that much power, probably will be close to stock plenum's limit???

Have you looked at Nismo GTR intake plenum?

sorry but i still think stock is good for another 50 - 100rwkw... and it cost too much for a manifold so dont bother..hahahahahaha :D:rant::woot::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Also would be interested to know how much boost your running to acheive that figure, Mines not on full song till about 4400rpm with similar power.

BTW I have a CPC plenum as well, from what I hear response may be better with the longer runner plenums such as a plazmaman plenum. If I had my time again I would probably save my money and keep the std plenum.

If your running the GTR itb's you will have to use a GTR type plenum.

i've used the both the JUN plenum and now the Hypertune unit.

The Hypertune unit is bigger and allows you to use either a 85mm tb or their big daddy 97mm.

we are currently using the 97mm unit.

400awkw on 21psi.

There was no increase of lag going with the Hypertune unit that i could feel.

Hope this helps.

Exactly why I want to upgrade, also looking to change intercooler setup and shorten piping up.

500hp at the wheels and full boost by 3500rpm are you sure? Is that possible with such a big turbo?

My stock turbo doesnt make full boost until 3000rpm.

I can get the previous owner on these forums to back it up :O its tuned for 1.8bar usually run at 1.5bar though.

Thanks for the feedback from those of you who had helpful input, Im aware ill need to use a GTR Style plenum to accomodate the ITB's Ive been offered a TRUST Item for a good price so Im thinking about that at the moment.

As for those of you who think the money could be better spent elsewhere, I assure you it cannot, theres nothing else left to do to the engine, besides strap an even bigger turbo on it and go for bigger power, which I dont want to do. I want useable power, not a dyno queen, Throttle bodies, plenum, intercooler setup is all there is left to do along with some suspension gear that I'll be picking up at the end of the week :)

Hi James, I am totally confused and finding it hard to give a solid opinion without clarification, so let's try some questions;

1. What cylinder head is it?

2. Is the head standard or ported?

3. What boost are you using?

4. What ECU?

5. What cams?

6. Solid or hydraulic followers?

7. What RPM are you using?

8. Internals?

9. Got a dyno graph?

The answer will quickly lead tothe right selction of parts.

:O cheers :)

Guess u dont either hey?

:O

ever heard of sarcasm...

but thats alright u stick to your stock one!.....bbwwaaahh

I think you'll find my R&D is well documented on these forums with the stock item.

Now, can you please supply some back-to-back testing that proves the stock one isnt adequate, and post the results that you have to backup your (at this stage) inaccurate statements based on nothing more than a "hahaha" or a emoticon.

thanks

RB25DET Cylinder Head

Ported

1.5 - 1.8bar

HKS Fcon Pro-V

Stage 3 HKS Cams 275 deg duration.... bigger than standard lift i dont have the figures with me im working til midnight :ermm:

not sure on followers i know valves retainers etc have all been replaced with aftermarket parts.

Internals are trust built, forged pistons rods, aftermarket bearings, prepped and balanced crank etc

No dyno graph unfortunately :( had one from when it was still in japan but its been lost.

Rev Limiter is set at 7200rpm as it sits, it wasnt during the tune (im conservative :P)

Hope that helps.

I make Pleniums at wild 1 motorsport for the RB25`s

I was the one posting max power out of standard rb25

well i made 502 WRHP without nitrous with our pleniums.I was involved in the designing of them.We tested alot of different designs.I run a 10.8 down the quarter with a manual on pump fuel. This was with the Standard motor

Our pleniums with Bellmouths sell for $1350 with an XF throttle body.If interested let me know via PM

We also can put on upgrade Throttle bodies from 65 mm- 105mm

Edited by MR331307

thanks 2BNVS and turbo87. both these cars make some serious hp on what is considered reasonable boost levels. different turbos and engines, but both retain the rb25 head.

benigno - i am currently doing a plenum for a rb26 which will be using the standard rb26 itb bolt pattern

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
