Hey Guys

How about the 1990/91???(right year?) Bathurst video, of the almighty GTR winning. This will tie in an Aussie motor racing icon with the Jap sports car scene and I think it is the only Jap car to have won Bathurst and everyone watches Bathurst.

Thats my 2c worth.:P

I think its awesome that you guys are gonna put a skyline display in, more nissans ...

With my setup. I usually just go a single flat panel display with a slide show running, it displays what ive done to the car, some areas in more details than others, it also has specifications, special thanks, and so on. It might look simple, but it actually takes fkn ages to setup, haha damn i hate powerpoint.

The pc that displays the presentation also runs the music for my display, usually just winamp with a pile of music queued up and blurting out some decent speakers.

I'm kinda over the whole cranking the music idea, if its too loud, people dont wanna stand and admire your vehicle, because they either hate the choice of music, or it's simply too loud and annoying.

I setup this same thing for the HSV in the rb display at cabin just passed. however, due to the RB display having shite loads of lightning, audio gear, and generally NOT enough power, our circuit breaker was tripping the whole weekend. This of course shut down the PC with the presentation on it. and because i like to disconnect the keyboard and mouse while its running to make it look neat, it's a MAJOR pain in the arse to get it all going again, not to mention the stupid PC doing a scandisk everytime. (grr)

The hardest part of the presentation is getting the timing on the frames right, making sure you can read the text in time before going into the next slide, etc.

It's a good idea if you have a lot of pictures of your ride already on a PC... (scanned in or digital), if you have a lot of photo's in an album, I'd just display that on a photo board instead. This can sometimes be better than the presentation, because some people dont want to stand in front of a PC and stare at the screen waiting for a certain part to come in the presentation. Some judges also dont like this. (they dont have time to stand there and watch it, whereas they can easily skim across a photo board). dunno really, i've had various types of feedback on the setup.

Anyway, this year should be good. And although western salon is always half arsed, or screw's up at the end, or whatever, its still fun stuff. I like the show, it has a good vibe. My car is still in some serious gutted state, so unsure if I will make it yet. I'd much rather have it setup properly and ready for some racing than bothering about a car show. (some top racing events coming up around the time of this show too!). However I've also made some serious changes to the car, new coilovers, whole new engine bay, blah blah. Its driving me up the wall. I havent had the car driving for almost a year now, pain! I ended up buying a bunky to get around in, its this little white suzuki hatch, 800cc's and 3cyls of awesome power, oh and it has massive huge 12" red wheels! hahaha

Good luck with your organising of the car show, again, It's great to see you guys are gonna put in a display.

I still dont know what I'm doing for display, if I make it, I wont be displaying with RB. So, either solo, or with my gf's dads car or whatever. hrmmmmm

Cheers, James

Hi Guys,

As many of you know we are planning an SAU entry into this years PAS Wester Salon (if you don't, read the Events section).

Call me blind but i cant see a thread on this in the Events section? Can someone link me or is it not there anymore?

Thanks

if you want video of skylines racing about i have hours of footage of me at MC and Pro-Max, aswell as some footage of Cameron and some black 33 that has been down there once or so.

edit: some footage of simons 32 aswell i think. *scratches head*

In car and outside

Shaun

Do we know yet how many cars we can have? How much space we will have?

I like the workshop idea, focusing on performance (as the Skyline was built for), tools and engine bits laying around (tied down of course), and each car should have a different focus on it, such as one showing off polished engine, one with dyno sheets displayed prominately, one with particularly nice body kit, one with custom interior...

I agree the very loud audio systems can be annoying, and do not encourage people to hang around the display too long. If you have a good set up, people know by looking at the gear, they don't need to hear it. You always end up with some trev next to you who thinks he can out blast you with Mettalica (?)

We can take the Wholagan GTR but i Black listed Gray 6 months ago please don't associate SST and Peter gray.

We have lots of race gear that can be used and i have the Pack of assholes GTR vids and a projector but the light is a prob.

Do we want an RB26 powered Sports sedan for the show as Evans is now rolling and looking wild, it is a Silvia body but we can display it as the space frame with an RB in the guts of it.

Just a thought. We could have a simple line up of all the different versions of the skyline from as far back as we can go to the R34. Jash's old skooler, R30', 31's, and a gtst, gts4 and a gtr from R32, R33 and R34. That way it shows we have a lot of different models in the club and would be a pretty neat thing I think.

I'm guessing that would need about 11 cars already so not sure of available space.

Just my 2c....

Brett

Brett, That idea is what we are trying to go with, but we need to find out how much room we can have.

If anyone knows the organisers can they please get an email address or phone number so we can start to organise things:D

No worries Paul, but that wasn't made clear so hence my suggestion.

If we could get a corner stall we could have the cars all lined up in a horseshoe all facing in running up the line from oldest to newest. We could have a couple of racecars either end (GTAAAH and the Wholagan perhaps).. Maybe a board in front of each model outlines the specs, years etc... Nothing overly Ricey but a display lots of people will talk about I think.. Nice big SAU banner above the lot with flyers advertising the forums and the soon to be started club....

I'm happy to start chasing PAS up while you are away Paul..

Brett, That would be appreciated if you could. We had a meeting a few months ago to discuss what we were planning and most of what you have suggested is what we had thought too:D If we can get a space allocated then more decisions on the design can be made:D

Thanks

Paul

    • I have been being VERY quiet about what you're alluding to, as it is something that ticks me off... The number of cars from factory that run coil overs is HUGE! Most of them these days do... The other part that annoys me, is people saying "Well all the incabin adjustable suspension is illegal by blah blah blah"... If that's the case, then why can I buy a car brand new that can do it if, FULL STOP in cabin adjustable suspension is illegal...   Also, I could just chuck some aftermarket shocks in my car, throw the stock springs on, after my blue slip, dump my super low springs back in. Same shock and spring style setup... Hell, they could also be the same colour springs etc.     I'm voting, BlueSlipper didn't want to touch the above car for some reason. Whether it be some sort of bias against the car, the owner, them maybe having previously done dodgy shit and now they're being super careful in case they get slapped in the face by the Gumbyment again... Find a new blueslip place.   And can confirm as you had said, yes there are holy bibles of vehicle heights, and all sorts of other suspension stuff. Heck your run of the mill mechanic, and tyre shop has access to all of that stuff. It's how they do wheel alignments...
    • Funny story Heading to Sydney this morning on the HWY there was some slow traffic, so I gave it the beans and midway through my overtaking "power run" I lost all power It seems that I missed a hose clamp,  and the MAF and filter went WiFi To make this more problematic, the little tool kit that lives in the boot, is sitting in the sun room at Goulburn......LOL Luckily for me I found a bit of steel on the side of the road that could be used like a rusty and bent flat head screw driver to tighten it up enough that it got me into Sydney, it is now all tight like a tiger with the aid of a 8mm socket Note to self: Use my brain and double check stuff, and always keep that little tool kit in the car for when I have a brain fart
    • Oh, and as for everyone with their fuel economy changes, I switch between E10 and 98 in the company car. Even do when I had personal cars that could run on E10. You know what changed my fuel economy in any noticeable way? How I drove, and where I drove. Otherwise, say on full tanks of just back and forth from work only (So same trips, same sort of traffic), couldn't notice a difference that I can correlate to the type of fuel in use. In the current vehicle, that's over 42L of USABLE fuel. While 98 is all "more energy dense", it also has higher knock resistance as it takes more energy to get it to ignite too. The longer hydrocarbons, typically more tightly bound. So running the same ignition map, can also produce less power, if there isn't enough time to get it all burnt through properly, as yep, the flame propagation speed is different from lower octane fuel to higher (Higher has a lower flame propagation, due to the more tightly bound and harder to self ignite funs. This is also typically where, a vehicle that is designed purely to run on 91 (Whether it be E10 or normal 91) usually sees absolutely no real world difference in fuel economy for the normal man, woman, or dog.
    • We've got some servos around me that have 91 with E10, 91 (no E10), 95, and 98. At those stations the change from 91 E10 to 91, is typically around 8c/L.   But lets not get started on the price of fuel in Oz. It's ridiculous. All the service stations around me, bar one, the price of fuel has been over the $2 mark per litre for the cheapest, 98 being around $2.45. That one service station is a CostCo, fuel from it comes from the same refineries, and makes no pitstops, it runs great, including the 98. In fact, I've had no issues on CostCo fuel, but plenty of issues at other stations!. The CostCo fuel, was $1.65 roughly this week for 94 with E10. $1.88 for 98. Servos directly across from it, $2.10 for 91 E10, and $2.48 for 98. The part I had to laugh at? If I drive multiple HOURS away from Brisbane, say out near Nanango, or Kingaroy, or even out to Goondiwindi, the price of their fuel, is the same as what it is at the CostCo... Oh, and that BP servo at Goondiwindi is HUGE and goes through epic turnover of fuel, so it's not sitting there for weeks going to shit. And what blows me away, my mate is one of the people who drives the Fuel Tanker all around QLD, delivering to all those places. At the same company his previous role was doing the "local haul" deliveries... Same truck, same driver, same pickup point it all comes from. So you tell me, how the hell it is 60c/L CHEAPER for fuel, when nearly all else is equal, except they require a B-Double to drive half a day out of Brisbane, and half a day back, every second day, compared to the delivery that can be under 30 minutes drive from the fuel pickup point... Not to mention, go five blocks down the road, and Ampol to Ampol will vary 30c/L... And I've had this conversation with my mate... The way it's priced, is just typical, pure and utter rubbish... He also does runs from Brisbane, to all over QLD, down to Newcastle, Sydney, Nowra, Melbourne, Geelong, and even out to parts of the NT depending on the companies needs. His main stuff is all the longer distance away from home for a few days at a time, then when he's back, he loves to just pickup extra shifts wherever he can in whichever truck, hence all the weird different places.   Oh, as for getting E10 into all the fuels in Australia... It was very quickly highlighted, that we don't have enough biomass available to use to make E10 sustainably like they require, and it would dramatically cut into our, and the worlds food chain supply...   I vote we all just start running on liquid methane gas... Plenty of that just getting tapped off at tips from underground decay... (Note, this is pure just stupid commenting. I could very easily highlight the reasons its not a good idea especially on scale...)
    • Am I correct in assuming that the R35's are getting the classic skyline haircut off the odometer?  Quick search on carsales, there are 33 08 and 09 GTR's for sale, only 2 of them have more then 100,000km's on them (116,075 and 110,000 respectively).  And somehow there are about 25 for sale with around 60,000kms? Looks like the classic skyline haircut to me =/
