im planning on getting a 1999 34gtr vspec

i am planning to do the following mods to it

HKS 2530/ or Garrett gt2860R turbos (is there much difference between the 2 apart from price?)

Nismo 600cc injectors

Tomei 260 cams (in & ex)

Tomei Cam gears

Bosch 044 pump

3.5" turbo back exhaust

Apexi power intake

Apexi power Fc D Jetro

Apexi Avcr

Z32 afm, or are rb20 ones fine

is there any other mods i would need to do to support the power im after? no more than 300awkw!

im new to gtr's especially 34's so i dont really know what some of the stock items are capable of

cheers...ben.

Why the D Jetro when you are using AFM's?

I am really hesiatant to mod my 34GTR.

It drives so nice, starts no problem, idles beautifully, doesnt stutter, no hesiating, etc.......

GT-SS for 300-320kw - ill get these around christmas and see how they go - have heard nothing but good things.

Any news on the GT-ZZ yet?

you'll need some injectors. sard 700cc will do nicely

also, scrap the 044 idea, and get a nismo pump instead.

forget the DJETRO too, just use regular PFC

turbos, I'd go either HKS 2530, or GT-SS (not keen on the generic garretts, but that's just me).

AVCR is old school, looks ricey and expensive. I'd suggest Profec B II would be better for you and cheaper.

for AFMS I'd say Nismo. Means you can use standard intake piping/pod filter set-up and they look standard but support lot's of airflow.

and whatever you do please dont paint it orange! :(

no worries thanks for all the help

looks like ill just go rb20 afm, with the normal power fc, and the gt-ss turbos, with the avcr my mate has one he's selling, plus i had one in my 33 which i thought looked cool, i wouldnt pay the $600+ RRP for them though.

600cc injectors should be sufficient shouldnt they?

id wanna make this car very responsive with some fair enough top end, but my current r33 gts-t has 515rwhp and i dont wanna go to that kind of power level with this one, so thats why i stated 300awkw max, id rather have the supporting mods capable of slightly more so they are not under so much stress..but probs around 280awkw ill be happy with...

i also dont want to go into the whole deal of rebuilding the motor... what is the bottom end strength, before u have to start thinking rebuild?

cheers...ben.

If you are only after 280-300kw@wheels, go GT-SS or Garrett -7's. Normal PFC, std afm's, std injectors, std air box, std fuel pump, adj. cam gears, std dumps, front pipes and decent exhaust. Get a good tuner and it will drive/start/idle like stock (surprise!!), but go like 300kw should. IMO, one of the best street set-ups, and only requires an ecu and exhaust change and she will pass epa..

id prefer to get the whole exhaust done, as well as the afm since i can get them for bugger all.. when will the fuel pump and injectors begin to max out?

i was leaning to do cams too as they would help make it more responsiveness, but if they arent necessary then they can wait with the other stuff.... like i mentioned id like the suporting mods to be capable enough of a bit more higher than my actual goal...

that sounds like a good plan, gt-ss, power fc, exhaust, cam gears

Ben, as Ash said, if you only want 300awkw, then you want to use the most responsive turbos you can that can achieve that power and the simple answer to that is a set of GT-SS's.

You also wont need a Power FC D-Jetro, and even if you did choose you use one then you wont need AFM's anyway.

My R33 is comfortably producing 320awkw with GT-SS's, Z32 AFM's, Sard 700cc Injectors, Tomei Type B poncams on a VERY conservative track tune

Locally you'll get stung more than if your had them sent over and got taxed.

I'd use greenline, send a pm to ferni, he will hlep you with greenline, he didnt even pay taxes the lucky boy :)

If your $$$ concious, just get the Garrett -7's as Ben (RPMGTR) said before.

They werent cost effective when i purchased my GT-SS, but now the price is a lot more appealing compared to over a year ago. :)

    • I am yet to see anyone ever regret a quaife or helical. ...other than drifting/skidpan duties. I kind of want to upgrade my factory helical with a Quaife (but really it's not ultimately that different, and is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING), that's how good the hype is about them, that I want to try them 'just to see'
    • D2 and Ksport are essentially the same thing and basically just generic Taiwanese manufacture. Better than ChinaBay crap, but... not top shelf. Öhlins have got to be some of the best dampers around, so likely to be a good option. It's going to get to the point though where I suggest you buy from Oz. We have at least 2x excellent options here. If I were you though, I'd be talking to KW about doing something for the R33. There's bugger all difference between that and the 32. In GTR land, anyway.
    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
