what about a T78-33D? or are they borderline BFOT?

I'd say a T78 is pretty much BFOT territory, similar to T04Z - and aren't you trying to get around that?

If you're looking down the Trust path, TD-07S is smaller.

So is it still SST, or are you thinking of something a bit larger?

I would like to see the results of an HKS T04Z with the .61 rear used on a standard displacement RB26 ;)

would go quite well no doubt.

I was running 3037s56t on rb25, it was nuts, made well over 300rwkw, made strong boost under 4k rpm - and not one garrett name brand came anywhere near the sort of response/power I was making - infact I have never seen a garrett generic turbo make near the same power/response/toque/spool as the HKS did. (but that is a different topic.

On RB26, no doubt the 3037 would be a very sweet thing indeed.

for the twin set-up I want I'd need:

HKS 2530s

for SST

HKS 3037

Not a good comparison, 2530's would get you up around 400 rwkw (not 300 rwkw). I think 2510's would be a better choice if 300 rwkw is your target. But having driven several GTR's with 2530's they would be my choice with around 350 4wkw. They make a NICE circuit car, perhaps why the Mines R34GTR has 2530's on it, as does the re-released Nismo R32 Ztune.

;) cheers :D

You haven't looked hard enough, GCG supplied GT3040 = 325 rwkw with 1 bar at 3,750 rpm. It's all in the tuning, spend $200 extra on that and save $1K on the turbo

;) cheers :D

700HP-GTR33 I certainly hope you're kidding around because thats a ridiculous suggestion that unless they have 2 turbos, a GTR is not a GTR!!

Have a look next track day and see how (especially a certain) big single GTRs go. The days of useless BFOTs has passed, there is absolutely no reason a single can't do what twins do.

Back on topic T78 is way too BFOT, T04Z is awesome in comparison, 500rwhp @ 19psi with delivery by 4500rpm not being strictly on/off either, with the .81 rear. I'd track back towards something like a GT3037, GT3040 for the lower power level.

yes, well my car was tuned at the same place other guys had their gt30s done - does this mean I could have had alot more than 321? most likely, a japanese mech seemed to think it was a bit low...

would love to see a dyno graph for this gt3040, sounds like it worked unusually well, as there was another guy on here who fitted one (gcg) and he hated the thing - ended up going hks 3040 and fell in love.

As Gary mentioned, for 300rwkw on a twin setup, you want the most efficient turbos you can find so you would either search for a set of HKS GT2510's, or for the newer option, GT-SS's.

Both will comfortably reach the power goal and its already a well known fact that for response, its hard to go past GT-SS's, especially at ~$3,000 for a complete kit (Half the cost of the proposed SST setup!)

Speaking of the GT-SS Turbo.

My friend just bought a turbo and was told it was HKS GT-SS turbo.

It only has Garrett written on the housing but I don't recall if HKS actually put their name on all HKS turbos?

The core has this written on it:

HJ 0188J

GT S

472560-14

Can anyone confirm? :)

thanks for the input. good to get the SAU brains trust on this one.

nick, you are right, HKS GT-SS are the proven option and very good value at $3K, but you do need to factor in twin dumps and front pipes which would be much cheaper on the SST set-up with just one simple dump, and one simple front pipe.

Gary, I hear you on the 2530s too. They would be my other choice I think.

Morgs, I will heed that advice and put the T78 in the BFOT bag. but definately considering one of the small T04Zs.

What housing A/Rs do they come in (both ex and comp).

Something around .81 rear and a .60 front could be good depending on physical size/wheel size/trim. Should be good for 350rwkw and hopefully full boost before 4000rpm. basically whatever turbo I end up with I'd want the wastegate (s) cracked open before 4000. otherwise it's not really going to do it for me on street or track for that matter.

Speak to Dave (T04GTR) about his

Its a bit laggy, but the top end is quite a rush

Someone lock this thread....too may good ideas floating around.

Does anyone know the details of the IHI turbos the Z-Tune uses?

If its a track car, then i say stick with low mount twins and std manifolds and heat shields. Controlling the heat with a single and tubular manifold is a bitch on the track. And the heat from a little RB20 setup is going to be less then 300-330rwkws.

Agreed, Fernis cars is pretty damn impressive. I mean its pretty damn impressive :)

that is a good point. heat will definately be a problem. but damn we love the gate. and i know you do too.

Yeh new engine will have gate...though with the change to a smaller turbo and more displacement you might get too much gate and need to plumb it back :)

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
