Hey there,

I know that most of you properly know about the new shell fuel called V Power that has now replaced the Optimax fuel that alot of Skyines drivers run in there cars, however a few nights ago speaking to the lady at my local fuel station she told me about V Power Racing, and I had a bit of a chat to her about it.

Now, at this stage V Power Racing isn't at many Shell Servos, only selected ones I belive, I think within a 20-30KM radis from where I live there is only two servos that have the new V Power Racing.

It is susspose to be more fuel efficent, cleans your pistons etc.

Here's what shell say in there little book:

Shell Unleaded: Regular fuel containing a fuel economy formula designed to take you furthur.

Shell Unleded 95: Quality fuel that features an octane rating of 95 which is perfect for drivers of many new cars, especialy new European and Japanese cars.

Shell V Power: 98 octane premium performance fuel that can keep a new car performing like new for longer and in some cases can help rejuvenate older cars.

Shell V Power Racing: Australias only 100 octane fuel with 5% ethanol designed to allow many modern and high performance cars to perform at their peak.

Would running V Power Racing in Skylines weather they be GTS, GTST, GTR, GTT be good for the car and better on performance? Has anyone use V Power Racing? If so, what are your comments on it?

I haven't used V Power Racing, but I am using V Power it seems the same as the old Optimax to be honest, although the fuel has been designed byFerrari.

V Power = Optimax

V Power Racing = Optimax Extreme

I believe V Power Racing is only beneficial if you have your car tuned to take advantage of the ethanol factor.

Thats what I thought, but thought the standard ECU might be able to throw a bit more timing at the motor after it adjusted to the 100ron?

not reccommended for nissans older than 2004, not sure if this applies to imports... should notice a difference in stock ECU cars, AFTERMARKET TUNES- could be a problem, they dont adapt to different fuels, and ethanol has a higher oxygen content so could cause them to run lean...

I havent done any high tech fuel analysis or anything, but what i can tell you is filling up with v power racing in melbourne near the westgat and driving to albury on one tank the car ran great, smooth, heaps of power to overtake.

In albury they didnt have the racing one, so i went the shell v power.

Felt like driving a hyundai excel.

No power, chewed the fuel and ran like crap.

My 'test car' is a 1996 series 2 with some mild tuning, std turbo and other bolt on bits and pieces.

shell v power racing - good

shell v power - bad

Its a clear exmple of text book marketing strategy, same fuel but a differnt branding or name to be more unique from its competitiors and also attract more customers.

V power clearly sounds better, grabs your attention than Optimax

I beat you the V power fuel quality is still as same as the old one Optimax, as for the new one V power racing thats probably the improved fuel.

I regularily use vortex, and will continue. I had to fill up at shell and used v power and found that i didnt get as many kms as i normally do. i might try the 100 ron but i agree that it is purely a marketing strategy to change the name...dont think its different.

Its funny that V power racing is more expensive than V power when all they have done is take 5% of the expensive 98 octane petrol out and put in 5% ethanol which is very cheap...

Really, V power racing should be CHEAPER than V power, as it has ethanol in it.

SK is on the case about V power racing so I'm staying tuned for his results.

I'm on my 4th tank of VPR now and can definitly feel a touch more responsive than extreme

  • 1 month later...

I've been using V Power Racing lately, it seems to have a better response in my car and it runs very smoothly.

Had friends in the car have even asked me what have I done recently, its running so smooth.

Haven't had any problems as yet and been using it for a few weeks now, seems like good stuff ..one bad thing though..

I ain't liking the price!

Has anyone actually changed there old rubber fuel hoses?? I was under the assumption that ethanol based fuels will harden these older hoses that we are running making them crack and get brittle?? Can someone correct me here?

Cheers

A

Been using 100 ron in the R33GTST since January (almost 12 months). I put an adjustable FPR in recently to raise the fuel pressure and a GTR fuel pump. I checked the fuel lines at the same time and they are in perfect condition.

:D cheers :D

    • It says 300ZX, does that make it an Aus delivered car? Funny how back in the day I just couldn't care less about Z32's and these days I am just in love with them. Back when Nissan was into pushing the envelope. 🤣
    • Hi guys, just after some guidance with an R34 sunroof that has stopped working correctly. It still opens and closes perfectly fine, but it no longer tilts/vents up or down. As a result, the rear of the glass now sags a bit as it drops down slightly in order to retract into the roof, but now it can't pop upwards into a flush position. I’ve probed the pins on the back of the switch connector with a multimeter and it seems like both switches (for open/close and tilt/vent) still work correctly. Any ideas on what it could be, or where I should even start in terms of diagnosing? I'm sure someone's had this issue before but I haven't been able to find anything online relating to this specific issue, most of the issues are with the seals leaking or the motor failing entirely. Thanks in advance!
    • Do you have some data like fuel pressure? It's really hard to say if you're still fighting a fuel system issue at this point. Could be something weird like the FPCM dipping out.
    • Yeah in that case, pulling the dent out. Event a very slight dent can create a lot of work filler-wise and there is a strong chance the panel won't be the factory shape when you are done (as the dent will result in a new high point created somewhere, then everything is brought up to that new high point... but the panel shouldn't be that high if that makes sense).  So you've filled and primed the panel and it is flat, why would you go back and remove the primer and add more filler?
    • Something else I have been faffing with while the car was off the road is making the AC work. Assuming the car isn't at a thermal limit the idea of having AC while waiting in line to go on track sounds delightful. I have actually been lugging around the weight of the entire system since 2018 when the RB25NEO went in without it working at all.  The main reason was in the first few events before I got around to re-gassing it the rubber hose that runs under the manifold had the factory heat wrap/sleeve fail resulting in this: ~2 years ago I purchased a complete used R32 AC line set but when I finally went to install it the line i needed was different where the expansion section is I found a local place that was able to replace the rubber section and re-crimp. They also added some modern heat sleeve to the hose Tight fit but fingers crossed this is the last physical piece of the puzzle needed
