Car started fine at work! i got home. pulled up in the driveway. turned off car. opened roller door (electric door has had the dick for some reason) and went to start it again! and it was like i had no battery at all.

got dads car out and jumpered it. got it inside the garage and left it run for a bit. turned it off.. tried to start again and the dash lights barely light up.

i have a dry cell sealed battery which i have never ever had a power problem with. tho i did get it out of a car at my brothers work. so it is slightly second hand

is there anything other than the battery that could be my problem??

Car be the 32 gtr

Cheers

Andrew

sounds like alternator to me. check the battery with the car off make sure it's ok, then check what the altenator is putting out when the car is running.

Battery reads 12.7 when turned off

When i try to start now, I hear what i think is the fuel pump trying to kick over. and the dash lights are faded. but then they come alite and fuel pump kicks in for a second. then it goes all dim again.

ok now with what i'd say a shorting sound somewhere at the rear of the car above the fuel tank???

Thats the only way i can descrive the sound.

Tho i think i usually hear it when its running good. cant quiet remember

There are any number of previous threads that describe how to test and evaluate these sorts of problems.

My initial guess is a dead voltage regulator.

well generaly speaking. its alot easier to just ask. considering I DONT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS

and to check for a dead voltage regulator is done how?

clean the battery terminals... check the voltage after the terminals while cranking ill bet you find a massive drop. if it was the alternator, the car would have cut out before you got home, and not continue running after you jump start it, and battery wouldnt show 12.7v either.

Yeah a massive drop is what i found! down to around 4 volts.

i had battery on charge all night and tried to crank it in the morning. also with my jumper pack. which also seems it had the dick yesterday as it wouldnt charge up over night either.

the battery terminals are very clean! its a dry cell battery so they dont really leak or get dirty.

I didnt get to check the alternator. as i had to move too many cars around to be able to jump start it.

This would have to be the first electrical problem i've had! the car hasnt missed a beat!

You need ~10V to turn the motor.

I had the same problem as you about six months ago. Battery was flat. It also read 12V static but you could see the drop on the voltmeter as you cranked it.

PS You'll receive more help around here if you keep your cool.

sounds to me like the battery is dead. how old is it? try to find a letter and a number thats been burnt/melted into the top of it. example. L6 would be november 2006. letters are for the month except they dont use I cos it looks too much like a 1 A=jan B=Feb...H=Aug J=Jul etc

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
