lol, yes your romaji is as bad as mine. hell you even spelt romaji wrong! lol

arimasu I think literally could be translated as "exists" but it's usage is like this:

nama beeru arimasu ka? Is there any 'raw' (draught) beer? or do you have any draught beer? depending on contest.

so you could say:

arimasu ka? is there any.

arimasu. there is some.

arimasen. there isn't any.

edit: it's only used for non living things. so you dont use it for people, or animals.

nah not really. you can use it to ask if they have it. like, is there any stock of... or is it on the menu. so I guess you could say nama beeru asrimasu ka? do you have any draught beer? they can say: hai, arimasu. yes we have it. but if you WANT something you need to say: beeru onegaishimasu. or nama beeru hitotsu onegaishimasu. 1 draught beer please.

shit...... :)

Japanese is a fun language to learn mate, best of luck with it. But yea, the sooner you scrap romaji and learn the kana the better hey. There is some way you can make your computer display and be able to write kana, dunno how to do it though. Mine is Japanese so it came with it あいうえお. Do that and then you can ask your questions in Japanese!!

I'll keep working on the kana :glare: Until then, I'll keep driving to work practicing in my best manga samurai voice :)

It sure is fun. If my kids were older I'd be happy to look at hosting an exchange student so I could practice!
