Well, went looking at a toyota supra today... terrible!!! The interior is s**t!!! So small and cramped!!! so that went out the window!

Next went to see about a R32 GTR, was going well until he listed some of the bills he has racked up repairing the car over the last few years... my bank account doesnt stretch that far!!

Now my choices are.... R32 GTST or R33 GTST series II. Mayb a rex but doubt it.

Whats the difference apart from shape between the R33 and the R33 series II?

What sort of kw at the wheels do these cars put out?

What sort of quarter mile time do these make?

Also which car is faster, the R32 GTST or the R33 GTST?

How much would u expect to pay for a R33 Series II that is totally stock standered?

meh, my GTS-t hasnt cost me much in maintanance, mods on the other hand...

but yeh if ur really stressed about putting money into ur car, dont get an import.

out of ur options, id get a R32 GTR, then an R32 gts-t, then a r33 gts-t, if ur after a bit more show and a bit less go maybe the r33 is a better option.

It depends on the mods, they can put out as much as you want.

r33 gtst has more power and torque, but is heavier. don't know for sure which would be faster down the 1/4 in standard spec

can get them for $11,000-15,000 if you shop right, price varies though depending on condition.

32gtr however is an entirely different story.

what everyone else said - as for the mods - you dont have to do it all at once. Do it little by little. Enjoy it till you get bored and need more power.

Edit - bills so far for me - not much. Had a few problems here and there, but warranty took care of that. Only had to pay for a new timing belt. But other than that, just hte usual stuff like maintenance costs.

For mild mods the R32 will own the 33 every time.

Throw an fmic, exhaust and 1bar in to the R32 and it is a pretty damn quick car, with a clean launch low to flat 5secs to 100km/h.

The R33 with an fmic and exhaust can only take 10-11psi before R&R sets in, all though they make more power they tend not to go as hard or as 'fun'. I put this down to the added weight and longer (higher) diff ratio of the R33. The R32's gearing is a little shorter, car weighs less and the motor rev's harder.

A mate of mine Maxx used to own an R33 with the above mods, I had a drove and my R32 did feel quicker and more fun out of corners, he also said the same. :P

The added weight and higher diff ratio are all against the r33 compared to the r32.

BUT.. Throw a PFC or safc on to the R33 and its all over for the R32 and in my opinion, bigger motor time as the 2ltr really doesn't cut it on the street with a larger turbo, it may show the peak power numbers but the average power just isn't there. :P

One HUGE + for the R33 is the motor has so much more potential to make big power easily. The gearbox is tough and won't break as the rb20 will.

budget up to $18,000 for car and few grand for mods....

Funny how all the R32 owners are talking up R32's (Though to be fair Cubes did give a bit of credit to the 33).

Some other things to take into account with an R33 over an R32 is the safety & strength of it over a 32. There is NO WAY I will be going back to a car without airbags after personally witnessing what a difference they make. A lot more emphasis was put on the safety side of things by the time the R33 came around, R32's don't have side intrusion beams for a start.

Also the RB25 is gonna be a lot torquier out of the box due to the extra capacity, & an exhaust, front mount intercooler, PFC, & (if you want to wind up the boost) a high flowed turbo is all it takes to start getting some really deacent numbers & performance out of them. If you gotta go stick an R33 engine & gearbox into a 32, you are talking big money already before you even do any other mods.

I wouldn't exactly call a R33 tall geared either, considering it's doing nearly 3 grand at 100 in fifth (I'd love a 6th gear), it still runs a 4.11 diff & can barely hit 60 in first gear & 100 in second before smaking the limiter, surely a 32 isn't geared shorter than that.

The 2 stage boost is all that makes R33's a bit weak in the low revs so spend a few bucks on some sought of boost control & you've got nearly peak torque from about 2500rpm. I want to see an RB20 that can do that.

32's from what I've seen seem to be a lot more prone to electrical gremlins, something I think they improved greatly on 33's if not perfected. Interior is also a lot more pleasing to the eye.

Personally I'm glad I saved the extra money for a 33 :)

I'm a little concerned over you obsession with quater mile times, I don't know if you're asking because you want to stupidly street race, legally drag race, or just because you think it's a good way to measure how quick a car is.

What you have to remember is that you have to live with the way the car drives when you're not reving it's head off down a drag strip. Some cars are hugely powerfull when you're revving the hell out of them, but can be an absolute dog when you are not. Try driving an old 930 model Porsche 911 turbo & you'll know exactly what I mean.

    • Yeah I've had too many issues with knock off's on the BMW's. I don't want to do a job twice or more because the parts are shit.
    • I read this and thought "ah! I will do this scissor jack on the tow point thing!" I just use my floor/low profile/costco jack and lift the car up by the tow hook itself, then slide jack stands under. Never thought about using scissor into floor jack combo :p
    • Well, my new WMI system took much longer to finalize. I actually missed my dyno appointment last Friday and lost my 150$ deposit. I'll be going back in the next week or two.  To sum it up. I only kept the AEM tank from my old setup. I replaced the AEM pump with a higher flow/pressure ProMeth 30GPH pump. I also swapped over to a 6AN low pressure feed line to the pump from the tank. There's also a pressure switch you cannot see on the pump high pressure line.    This is feeding 6x 200CC direct port nozzles and 1x 500CC Pre Throttle body nozzle. All fittings are Swagelok, because well why not. I also have a 300PSI pressure sensor up front.    I now have my Haltech ECU controlling everything. I start my pump with a basic relay at 5PSI and deadhead it. I then PWM a 3000CC methanol Injector to control flow starting around 10psi. The pressure switch in the trunk, along with my tank level are safeties before I ever get to 10PSI, and then I use my pressure sensor upfront as a secondary safety to cut the WMI and corrections in case the injector blocks or a line ruptures.  Wish me luck on the dyno!    
    • So, I'm back with bad news. There's no jack long enough on this planet that will reach the front subframe. If by some chance there is, it would weigh 200lb's.  I purchased a long reach jack... The damn thing weighted 120lb's and was massive. Didn't even come close, was still short at least a foot. It was a pain, but I brought it back. Next I decided HA! No problem, I'll get an Extra long reach jack. Well, I couldn't lift the box... It must have weighed 160LB's and luckily there was an open box in store. I took measurement and was still nowhere close.  Sadly I've lost hope and have accepted defeat. 
    • Thanks for that tip, niZmO_Man. I think the battery is OK. It's quite a new one, but I'll check. Last time I needed a new battery, everything electronic was fine, except that there wasn't enough current to turn over the starter. I decided to order one of the partial AV system translation CDs from Car Audio Workshop in NZ. That might have some effect, or help me diagnose the date problem. 🤞
