short answer: yes. lol

ok, bak on topic, hehe

10k hmmm, if i had that car and had to put 10k into it....

series 2 front

series 2 boot

boost contoller

fmic

suspension

full exhaust

retrim interior

....

From his posts, he's looking to power up his r33 gtst. He doesn't want to sell it and buy an r ugly poo (32). nor does he want to build a ricebox.

Many of the posts haev been spot on the money. Personally, if it was me, i'd want to build an all round car.

I'd settle with a highflow turbo putting out around 250 rwkw on the stock motor. I wouldn't bother with the port and polish/head gasket as mentioned above.

Of course, the usual supporting mods such as fuel pump, injectors (possibly, or just fpr), full exhaust, fmic, air filter, tune etc.

I'd spend the rest on handling mods, to make the car able to utilise the power, e.g. suspensions, castor, camber, swaybars, brake pads, brake fluid, brake mc brace, braided lines, guages, seat, harness etc.

Geez you are getting ripped off.....

pistons 1100....max

gtr rods 100-150....

motor in out 800 max....

GTR rods your just going to install without getting them checked/tested first? Your a gambling man i take it

There is no way i would install GTR rods without some testing of condition.

I talk RRP where i can also BTW.

I didnt pay $1400 for my pistons, but thats roughly what they sell at for most people.

Yeah sometimes you get stuff cheaper (100 here, 200 there) but all in all is best to quote worst case. If you save a couple hundred, winner.

And here in Vic - 1k for motor in/out is acceptable. And IMO having done it myself. Its fair enough 500 in, 500 out

Yeh didnt think id quote my mates rates for 350 for all machining and $400 for the engine pulled out rebuilt and put back and i supply parts...lol, but still most ppl can save a lot of money by looking on these forums or ebay (dont hurt me lol, just buy good stuff not crap) i mean i got brand new wiseco pistons for 1100 from america delivered by searching round on the net.

Personally Id sell the car and find another 32/33 thats worth whatever your car is + 10k. For something at that price you can have no doubt it will have a fresh motor and most of the susp work done as well.

Really you are tipping money away doing it yourself when you can find someone who has already wasted the money and selling it at a massive loss.

That's what I'd do anyway.

Coilovers

Clear indicators

GTR Front bar

Trust side skirts and rear bar

Carbon fibre lip spoiler

PFC

AVC-R

FMIC

Probably more than 10k there but meh.

z32 afm

040 fuel Pump

S15 480cc injectors

highflow turbo

Oil cooler

New bushes and other suspension compents

lol! Personally i'd swap it for a series 2... but that's just personal preference like a few others have suggested.

Stuff all the bodykit mods and crap like that. If I had 10K spare, that I couldn't possibly put to better use anywhere else in life, i'd want to RB30DET my car. Get some quotes on the whole lot, plus PFC and tuning, and if it comes in around the money... do that. It'd need a front-mount and fuel pump... all the supporting mods basically, but you'd have a pretty torquey and quick car, that you could then bolt other mods onto later. (bigger turbo, bigger injectors, bigger AFM etc etc)

Leave it looking stock wherever possible (apart from handling mods) and leave some faces looking shocked next time you run down the 1/4 mile or race-track! =-]

if i had 10k id realise it would probably never happen again and take a trip overseas.

working on your car slowly is the best thing. ive had mates spend 20k in one hit, get bored and sell and start over. ive spent around 15k over the last few yrs and id stab anyone who told me to sell.

or at lest get into it yourself. i did my rebuild myself and i think thats the major reason why i wouldnt sell her. spending 10, 20, 30k and coming out of it knowing sfa is a real waste.

p.s. do an rb30.

some ways to save money - depending on how much power u wanna make - instead of going for an HKS turbo etc, try a hi flow turbo like the ones from slide - good to about 260rwkws and 19psi, for around $940 or something. That leaves cash to pay for other stuff like FMIC, EBC, aftermarket ecu and tune - but also gives u a chance to work on the handling of the car. Works well if u wanna take it to the track.....u would need a car that stops as well as it goes for the track.

edit: im a noob at this, mainly cos it takes me ages to save up and mod the car to my liking - but thats just what Im thinking of doing. Rather than spend heaps for a turbo, i plan to get a hiflow - not too much power for the streets but just right to take it to the track for occasional flogging.... :O

As the other (more experienced) guys/gals have said - the mods they have put will help u achieve a good power/torque figure/curve

Same as what i got, not hard to find if you do your esearch really.

loooooool :)

Coilovers - 1400

Camber Arms - 200

Front Camber Adj Bushes - 300

Sway bars - 400

Front/Rear Strut Braces - 300

There's 2600 already spent on something more worthwhile than a boat with 350rwhp and no way to control it.

Add a nice set of rims into the mix - 2400

That's 5k

Now bolt-on a high flow - 1000

FMIC - 600

EBC - 300

PFC - 900

That's another 2800

That's almost 8k.

Now whack the last 2k on a nice front bar, some nice tint, and some skirts.

That should be enough - 350hp, GREAT HANDLING, and some decent looks.

if you really aren't keen to sell the car, and do want to chuck away your $10K then I say good on you.

if you want to do something a little bit different. I say hunt down a nice R33 GTR engine. whack in the RB26 with a decent clutch. re-use the stock GTR FMIC, put on some pods and a decent exhaust. put on some cam gears, get a PFC and get it tuned for around 1 bar boost (more if it has aftermarket turbos).

this will give you somewhere between 260 and 280rwkw and that great RB26 sound. plus it will be something a little unique.

it 'may' cost just over your $10K but I think you could definately have the engine and clutch fitted within your budget, then do the PFC, cam gears, exhaust etc later.

Strich9,

For 350rwhp to be reliable they really need a set of larger injectors to be dropped in.

Simply too many Rb25det's have popped when running around 350rwhp with std injectors, all though with a bit of fuel pressure they may seem fine when on the dyno for what ever reason they do tend to fail down the track and one ends up with broken ring lands.

I ran my rb20det injectors at 100% duty for around 3months before they began to fail, I began to notice increased detonation and poor starts, then finally fuel consumption went to absolute crap and it would frequently drop a cylinder when cruising or after a 3rd gear pull.

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
