Very exciting, snactching pole away after the clocks stopped... Kimi will be filthy about the last corner off track excursion. Now he starts on the VERY dirty side of the track along with Massa

Hopefully should be a good race

whatever. you can hope its a good un but i can guarantee with absolute certainty it WILL be a good one and if it isnt ill eat my undies.

noted.

I've never been a fan of alonso's, and to be honest, I think he's a bit of a hack, but I am actually enjoying seeing him race now.

It seems like he's pulled his head in a bit, and realised that he's got to beat some pretty talented people in some damn fine cars to have a hope of getting decent points.

He set the fastest lap of qualifying too.

The start will be where it's at. Massa and Kimi on the crappy side, McLarens on the rubber. Alonso will almost certainly try to squeeze out Raikkonen, but it should be entertaining to watch.

I do hope Hamilton does not win though. I like the kid and all, but all freaking week it's been in ev ery paper about the rappers he's playing golf with, about the social outings he's had.... I really feel a bit over him.

Still, Webber had some pace, and he could score some points if things go well. Sato is pushing sh!t uphill, but will be as entertaining as always.

I'll start doing a rain dance tonight.

Wow.... Clouding up already!

If we asume no mistakes, which to me it didntlook like there were any, Hamilton's best in Q2 with a 1:19:400, and the pole was 1:19:99, difference of about 0.5 secs

Alonso did his best on 1:19:1, and in Q3 made 1:20:1, which is a whole 1 second more than his best. I'm guessing he is much heavier, by several laps laps, than hamilton. Could be wrong but that seems like way too much of a difference considering how fast and how consistant Alonso was during all the quali sessions.

The commentators were saying that the track was really hard on tyres, so the super-soft might deteriorate pretty quick. Alonso did the 1:19.1 on the mediums, so look for him to burn out the white stripes asap.

Also, Alonso's garage seem to be declining to share strategy with Hamilton, so it could be an absolute pearler!

Good race, lots of things happening... Massa's stalling has cost him third place in the championship and he is now where he belongs among the top 4. Kimi was very stong, was great watching him tail lewis at the end of the first stint.

Alonso look really quick for the first time in a long time it felt like. He's still very dirty about having to give away all his data to his team mate which he feels negate's any advantage he may be able to develop to pull in old hamo's points advantage. And speaking of Hamilton, it was entertaining watching his struggle quite badly and ITV havng to come up with excuses for him. Their website is still mentioning him any chance they get

... and what was with the slow down lap footage? We were watching Hamilton wave to the crowd for a good 20 seconds when we could have been watching Massa v Kubica in the dying corners? Im sick of hearing about and even looking at this kid and he's driving for the team i support

GO Kimi! nice work. it seems hamilton didn't stand up too well this time. and yes the comentators pulling excuses out of their arse for hamilton was a bit much. I mean 9 podiums out of 9 races is a pretty fking good effort, they don't need to sugar coat anything for us. he just had an off day. big deal, he still took 3rd which is better than 17 out of the 20 drivers...

kimi pounded them though. better strategy, faster on track too. :P

shame webbers car broke again. I should have known. I was cheering that he had a good start and nailed trulli, but with that piece of good work done I should have guessed a retirement was inevitable.

by all accounts the bmw is not terrible, but I'd love to see what kubica could be doing in say the mclaren. perhaps it would be kubica up in the top 3 of the championship. he has done well to come back from that massive accident in canada.

why the hell did they start both macs on hard tyres? That was a BIG mistake. If they hadve started Hamilton and Alonso on the softer option, which was obviously the tyre to be on ( witness the pace of both ferraris ) then it wouldve been a completely different story.

Ron dennis even admitted as much in the post breifing.

people shouldnt be hacking away at Hamilton. the guy is doing an otherworldly job. Who gives a stuff if ITV bang on about him. I love the way he drives- hes mega aggressive, smooth, mechanically sympathetic ( lets see how the ferrari lasts with brutal Raikonnen behind the wheel ) and has a tactical nous that belies his 9 GP's...

think about that..

He's killing Heidfeld... What a form reversal

dont over exaggerate. hes not bloody well "killing" Heidfeld. Nick was only 3 seconds behind at the flag and still came in 6th..id hardly call that killing.

compared to what Heidfeld was doing to Kubica in the fist 5 or 6 races it is

I dont see your logic. They are very evenly matched in my eyes but i think Quick Nick is the better driver.

again, i would hardly go so far as to say they were killing each other as you put it.

Now if you were to compare trulli and schumacher then yes one is killing the other.

    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
