incorrect. i believe heidfeld made webber look pretty average in race conditions during his second year at williams before the german was yanked by a "harumph" bicycle injury..

huh??? There is no way on earth that NH made Webber look pretty average in race conditions, or in qualifying...or by any means.

Walking into the 2005 season i was stoked to read that NH got the seat when Button went bush. I had always been a big NH fan and thought that this was going to be his chance. I also thought it was the dawn of Webber being shown up by his first real team mate.

To my huge disappointment NH didnt make Webber look slow, or bad at all. In fact it took this year and NH results to make me htink he was worthy of my years of admiration.

In race conditions, NH typically started behind Webber and followed him around. His two decent results were on the back of Webber where in Monaco the team screwed over Webber and NH benefitted. And again in Malaysia when Fisi took out Webber giving two positions to NH. If you re-thnk the points Webber shoudl have got for Malaysia, him 3rd, NH 4th (possibly 5th if Fisi got his sh1t together), then Monacco. Well Webber would have been ahead of Nick in points, as well as most qualifying sessions and in mosts races.

I remember as it was the season i re-assessed my views on a few drivers. So i personally think it was pretty even with the advantage to Webber. There is no way you can argue there was a clear advantage to either driver, well to the point that the other looked "pretty average"

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Just ask "he who could have been WDC" Mark Webber. He openly admits that having a soft spot for Team Willie cost him a WDC. He should have been at Team Reggie instead of Fisi but as they say in the movies ....... That's Life!

cheers

and also if you will allow me to drag you all back a page or two ....... I have had a chance to view said material re one young Keeley Hazel and do certainly admit that she has several very redeemable features and undeniable talents.

cheers and many beers

that's how i remember it too.

faster in qualifying week in week out. screwed over in a couple of races but that happens. NH is no slouch but Webber was faster.

lol, she certainly is a thoughtful and enthusiastic girlfriend! that's for sure. :)

Prodrive to race 2008 McLaren

Mercedes-powered 'B' team

In Red Bull-Toro Rosso style, McLaren and F1's twelfth team Prodrive next year could use essentially the same Formula One chassis. Although news about David Richards' incoming team has been sparing in recent times, it is reported this week that Prodrive is still on track to debut in Melbourne next March.

Specialist German magazine Auto Motor und Sport claims that with three substantial Prodrive sponsors now on board, McLaren is now working closely with Richards' outfit to put together effectively a 'B' Mercedes-powered team.

To simplify the cross-over between the two teams, and because of time constraints, Prodrive is likely to run the 2008-specification MP4-23 single seater, probably with an identical Mercedes-Benz V8 power plant to its works sister, as the new privateer-friendly rules will probably allow.

Alongside McLaren test drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett as possible Prodrive racers, meanwhile, is Paffett's French-Canadian DTM colleague Bruno Spengler, the magazine added.

with this sort of help they should be at least an upper middle pack sort of team

... w00t for more midfield action!!1!

Well for my 10 cents worth David Richards should concentrate on building a proper WRX for Solberg, Atkinson & Pons. Leave the F1 business for people who want to build their own cars. Customer chassis suck wang. :P

yeah but you cant really fight these things, best thing to do is accept it and move on

could be worse, at least its not another Spyker team taking up grid space

EDIT: i just had a BRILLIANT idea!!! now they can piss Hamilton off to the B-team and let him fight it out like everybody else had to, and promote some other guy to his vacated seat?!?!?

... i should so start my own team

Edited by ctjet
yeah that's a much better idea. stick hamilton in the b team and let webbo and gonzo team up in the a team. then we'll see if webber is any good.

Gees you blokes are dreamin'. Hamilton will never race in a "B" team as Ron has invested too much in him. Are you all so naive to think that Ron has not sold shares in this boy? Team Macca is making an absolute killing on this.

And anyway we all know that MW has the mojo, he has just never had the car!

cheers

a mercedes B team...i thought the concorde agreement prohibited the use of identical manufactured chassis'? Wasnt SA in hot water over this? I thought prodrive had to make their own chassis'?

i wonder who the drivers will be.

as an aside, all this talk about webber at merc is nonsense at least for next year. We can still hope though and you never know next years RBR may well be up there. Its funny how much was expected of Newey when in fact its only his first generation car for RBR..next years will be much better you just wait and see.

I'm with you, I think MW has to sit on it for another year. Give Newey and the design team time to work their magic afterall he did design three of the fastest and most successfull chassis in F1.

New regs permit "B" teams. Think thy're trying to get more cars on the grid before we get back to the 1960's 1.5 litre formula.

News flash: Red Bull (or any customer engine team) will never will a grand prix. Ever.

Conclusion: Webber is wasting his time & should be pounding Flava-Flav for a seat at Renault. Before they re-sign Alonso.

bit harsh... remember, if button can win a GP, anythings possible

Yeah, how many millions of pounds is he paying Frank Williams so he can drive that POS Honda?

Prize of undying admiration if anyone can remember the last constructor to win a race with a customer engine - Jordan in South America doesn't count.

    • You very likely need to get it on a dyno and tune it. My assumption is, you've got an RB25DET tune in it, which has a different manifold, different injectors, and different cams as a minimum. What O2 sensor are you running?   When you say it runs extremely rich from idle all the way to redline, is this just free revving it you see that?
    • I seem to the be only person that is using a Haltech 2500 on an NA motor, I've installed a Bosch DBW throttle body to the OEM intake manifold and am having problems maintaining AFR even with the wideband o2.  It will run extremely rich at idle and up to redline, but under load it will go extremely lean in the 20s and i'm essentially having to rev it over 4k and feather the clutch to get it up to speed.  I've read a few other threads of about the butterfly, it seems removing the vacuum to it is supposed to have it remain open, i've noticed no difference under 4k with the vacuum line to it plugged.  I'm hoping someone here has had luck using the NA manifold with Haltech, and if they happen to have a tune for it.
    • I don't know any details, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they do it as a LHD only version, at least initially.
    • Thanks for the replies everyone. Definitely a coolant push. Oil catch can is empty and always has been. As the engine is out now I'll be having a good look over things. I do have some detonation on the piston tops from a trigger issue back about 5 years ago. I felt it and shut off then bought a new ecu and changed the trigger. Never been an issue since. It never hurt the power, its made almost 80hp more since that incident but I will pull the bearing caps to take a look. If the bearings are damaged I will do a bottom end refresh. Head is being re conditioned at the moment and the block will be cleaned and checked to ensure it's flat. I'll go with a kameari gasket and see how it ends up. The other thing I'm not super keen on is the cylinder colours. I suspect this is from the inlet manifold. The plan will be to put it back together, retune and then stick a plazmaman billet inlet on it and retune. I'm happy with the power, if it makes a little more, then great, but I would rather just make everything more efficient at this stage.
    • Maybe they'll look to do a bunch of presales to help inject some cash fast for their financial issues...
