Finally, may I suggest a change to the points system that gives more incentive to overtake. If you are stuck in 2nd you are not going to risk a big overtaking manouvere to get 10 points instead of 8. 20 points (1st) instead of 15 (2nd) is a more attractive proposition.

Ive never liked that idea. Call me old fashoned but i still think the maximum points should stay at 10. Rework it so that points are shared down from there. It becomes to difficult to follow and and keep score score of whos where. Look at V8 supercars... if you can follow that points system with any level of understanding your a better man than me. No layman in the world could follow that shamozzle.

agreed, i don't mind the current points system, but i see the idea in trying to get some more passing happening. Hopefully some of these rule changes, eg. not TC will make the racing more interesting.

I'm not one of those people that says F1 is boring though, i still watch every race and enjoy them all for the tactics and driver skill if anything, crashes and lots of passing doesn't always = exciting.

I agree, I quite like the current points system as well, I was just using an example that illustrated the need to get rid of the "settle for points" attitude that afflicts all motor racing at the moment. What happened to the competitive fire???

Well the current point system hasn't been current for very long. It used to be 9-6-4-3-2-1. So if you finished 7th you got SFA. Wasn't such a problem when the cars weren't so reliable as the minnows could snaffle points still. But when you had the 2 Ferraris, the 2 Renaults & 2 random other cars finishing every race the other makers didn't even get a sniff. So they changed it.

The best way to promote overtaking is not to fiddle with the points but to make it easier to overtake. But I reckon that conversation has been had once or twice before.

Seems this has degenerated into a "what pisses me off about F1" thread - Quite possibly My fault for mentioning how cool F1 would be as a SPECTACLE if we could actually SEE cars sliding around more than 1 or 2 degrees.

Yo Sam ! I WISH i was at Oran park dude! I'm lucky to get a TOE north of the Murray lately dude, let alone all the way up there! I might however, have to organise a trip up to ye olde' Sydney town to do a track day at Oran before it closes. Maybe even fly up for a Formula Ford school day (I did Calder, and even pooey old slow open-wheelers are GROUSE!)

Oh yeah, is there a thread for "What I'd like to change in F1" ? ? . . . - I guess it'd inevitably end in a flame-war, and get locked. :stupid:

Ditto.

As for the V8 supercars point system...wtf were they thinking. that is an absolute joke.

ahhhh....

the whole V8 series is a huge joke

i agree, there have been steps taken by other series to encourage overtaking, the push to pass in champcar has added another tactile element on when they use the extra boost. but i doubt this would be taken in by any of the teams or series administrators

sits back and waits for everyone to say i'm wrong :)

AVESCO/TEGA etc have made an attempt at slimming down the pointscore this year, and making it worth passing, but it's still a confusing cauldron of points. Interesting comparison between what people complain about with the V8's Vs. F1: V8's it's "Bloody processions, cars are too closely matched" Vs. F1's stereotypical whinge of "The lead cars just bugger off into the distance, they're too far apart, and hardly any passing."

NASCAR, anyone ? (Puts on John Deere cap)

I'm against all the shit that wants to slow down F1 cars and whatever....Sorry to the old guys that are all for it and the back runners, but this is F1, the pinnacle of motor sport. If you can't afford to be there, then leave.

It is supposed to be the ultimate...ultimate technology, drivers, budgets...everything. Stop f**king around with it, let them go fast, let them spend ridiculous amounts of money on making an engine rev even more than it already is, and if it blows up as a result, then let them work harder to see that it doesn't, or leave it at the revs it can run and still finish a race....thats the idea, to separate the best from the worst...not make it like NASCAR and have everything the same/shit :)

I agree if you can't afford to be their buzz off.. However regulation prevents the teams from creating and innovating in new ideas. I mean we will never see anything like the Tyrrell six wheeler or the Brabham fancar.. It just won't happen, there isn't enough leeway in the rules to allow enough variation between one car from another. Some regulation needs to be put in place, but at the moment, it is all over the shop and the current rules have woefully applied in all the wrong facets of the sport..

Innovation is great. It is one of the things that marks F1 as the pinnacle of motor sports. Unfortunately the era of the revolutionary design & for that matter privateer teams (Lotus, Brabham, Tyrrell, March, Jordan, Lola etc etc etc) has passed. The kinds of budgets provided by the manufacturers is eye watering. But how long will, for example, Toyota be willing to keep throwing hundreds of millions of dollars to allow Schumacher to make an arse of himself on a Sunday arvo? Or Renault if the results don't return? Or Honda is they keep this years form up?

The popularity of various categories & even motorsport as a whole waxes & wanes. Hell WRC used to be lined with manufacturers - now there are only three. The BTCC had nine or ten FACTORY teams. Now it only has a couple. Remember the Group C sports cars? I don't think it will have slipped Toyotas attention how much they need to spend in F1 to get nowhere compares to how much they are spending in NASCAR getting nowhere.

aaaaaaaaaanyway... i think opening practice is going to be interesting. Massa really is under the gun and is going to want to show he's still got the moves. I think Kimi will still romp away from him though.

Honda has apparently given up on their rice box. Expect the new RA107 in Canada... but dont expect much

I hope Honda change that rubbish paint sceame.

Massa has nothing to prove about is pace, it's just his racing that he has to prove.

and Ch 10 is delaying the coverage again

Please don't take this the wrong way, but f^%k you city people do my head in.

For anyone who lives in a regional area channel ten don't broadcast the F1. Win television do. What does that mean? Well for me atleast it means no digital commercial telly. It means fun broadcast times - like the Malaysian GP went to air at 1:40 on TUESDAY morning. I knew it was the Formula 1 because the telly guide had it listed as round 2 of the A1GP. When that Big Brother shite is on the F1 never gets shown until about 2.00am. So you have to turn of the radio on the way to work to avoid finding out who won the race. Lucky the West Australian newspaper thinks sports includes only football, horseracing & cricket.

You would get Foxtel to make up the difference - except the satellite gives up the ghost every time it rains. Just great for a winter sport.

And don't even get me started on GWN, football & V8's. :D Until this year I never even saw any of the Saturdays races.

If it wasn't for the fact that I dont need to spend four hours a day stuck in traffic jams....

Gretal Kalleen. Mutton dressed up as hooker.

Hey djr81, Man You are gettin' SUCH a raw deal there ! ! ! Even in the ol' days of early 90's WIN TV back home in Echuca, the F1s still came in at 11:45 (or 10:45 if U were lucky) every Sunday night! Except for the Canada, Brasil, and (some other) GP's - and that was all down to time-zones.

I think Channel 10 is starting up the ol' channel 9 trick, of seeing how little it can spend on it's coverage, and how late it can push-back the broadcasts before the F1 fans stop watching, and start hating on 'em. Has anyone else noticed, how much less emphasis the other motorsports get, now that the V8's have left the station?

Oh: first practice in Bahrain is on,

1. Trulli . . . . . . 5 Laps, 1:35.500

2. R.Schumi . . . 5 laps, 1:35.573

3. N.Heidfeld . . .7 Laps, 1:35.969

etc. etc.

Goto Formula1 . com - Live timing

Broadcasting is horrible here, and yes, regional areas are shocking I agree! Still, just like road building, Australia could learn much from Europe when it comes to coverage of motorsport...

Who these days watches network tv for F1 coverage, screw Ch10! Lets see I have....

F1 2007 - Rnd 01 - Australia - Qualifying (1.25gb)

F1 2007 - Rnd 01 - Australia - Pre-Race (0.6gb)

F1 2007 - Rnd 01 - Australia - Race (1.16gb)

F1 2007 - Rnd 01 - Australia - Race Multi-view (3.04gb)

F1 2007 - Rnd 01 - Australia - Post-Race (0.3gb)

and I can get the 3 Practice sessions (3gb) too but didn't only for the Australian GP because I watched them on tv after work.

It's extremely simple.

1. www.newsleecher.com ($36/yr)

2. www.newshosting.com ($145/yr)

3. Enjoy

The only reason I watch Ch10 for the race is because I record it to watch the following afternoon because it takes 2-3 days to get the race + multiview race + post-race ITV downloads.

    • Yeh I think i'll message an old contact i had for ages that manages his own tyre shop now.. n tell him what i want n work with him before ordering..  Got this 17x9 +30 Driftteks on 245/45/17 PSR Drag Radials on the rear.. They fit well - for your reference in future - Rear guards  have been lipped in & minimal to non flaring of the rear Gaurds.
    • If only it were that easy! I also needed to remove seats, shocks, brake calipers, send my car through a fence, and use measuring and ended up guessing because I didn't remove seats, shocks and brake calipers. It can be hard sometimes Can be a little more complex than 'just measure' if you want to truly measure the entire wheel through all of it's suspension travel. But if you aren't going for every last mm then yeah, you can check the space you currently have and guesstimate.
    • If you own a car, and it has wheels on it, and you know the offset of those wheels, and you have a measuring device, you have everything you need to work out if other wheels will fit.
    • Will this fit? but they are staggered set - RAYS 57DR SEMI GLOSS BLACK 18x8.5 +37 | 18x9.5 +38 5-114.3 STAGGERED SET   or If no go could just get a set 4's wheels of 18x8.5 +37 5-114.3 - would i run 8.5's 235s up front n 245's at the back if I do?   Thanks.
    • Put a clamp on your return line. I have a feeling it's sucking air, and introducing bubbles to your fuel. With a lot of fuel, less problematic. I'd honestly be redoing all the lines in the tank and clamps on everything.   Also, you've given two different answers to the same question: Asked if being followed by the police you could get down to use the whole tank, you said yes you could, so long as you keep off boost. However, you then followed this up that free revving, it would also cause the issues. I'm doubting free revving is enough to make any noticeable boost on what is likely a decent sized turbo.   So now I have to ask, can you actually drive it lightly and use all the fuel, or does it break up even free revving? Also, have you put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Can you hear the pump change noise at all when you're having this issue?
