i do IT

its truly shit. After the days of earning 80, 90 , 100$ an hour It just grates on you having to work in perth for shitty wages . I just cant get interested doing anything for less than a 7 figure income . Why should I live with all the hassle and stess , gaining knowledge and cirtifications , working long hours and late nights when someone with earns 2-3 times what you do for digging holes .

If your in IT get out , its only going to get worse , held desks in india , operating systems a chimp can use , plug and play everything . get out now while you still can .

yeh i can use these operating systems hella good....... oh wait.

Could always move to Dubai or UAE arkon. I hear they pay good money for professionals.

Its just too easy to sit at a desk and ride the wave of ppl who think its easy money. That wave crashed in 01

no worries bill gates

why dont you go back to digging holes if sitting at a desk is so bad

Yeh if uve been there for a while but try finding a job in IT now with no XP, kinda difficult.

Oh yeh and digging holes does blow ive had enuff of that but it paid the bills while at uni, be a plumber they can charge what they like

U get home in the evening and ure body is tired but ure brain is not, now days i get home and my brain is fried and my body is all rilled up. Well waht can u do, maybe dig hole in the mornings and crunch numbers in the arvos, hmmmm what job lets u do that??? geologist?

damn, i havent gotten into pharmacology. Still a developer.

But I am now a contracter for 2 firms

echidnaweb where I work at home 2 days per week, and

Market United which is 3 days per week at the old swan brewery. cool place to work :P

Shaun

im not really going to be digging holes it was just a metaphor . there are lots of jobs currently that are considered "below" IT yet they earn so much more . For instance while building a house a guy came to cable the phone lines into the house . he ran 2 cables from the telstra connection in the meterbox , across the open frame roof , down the wall into the spot where the phone jack would go . He charges $143 and telstra pay him about 50-60 . for 20mins max work , aproximately $600 per hour . Yet I am supposed to do a much more difficult job for what 60k in perth ?

and dont tell me he has to work hard , he doesnt even climb a ladder , theres no ceiling or roof yet . he connects 2 cables ! The worst that happens is it rains and he gets a bit wet .

anyway if your happy or whatever then good for you . its a case of dont miss what you dont know and if you didnt get the high wages youll probably think IT is pretty good even now . But just remember that IT is an industry in decline , globabally and consistantly . The nature of the technology means that inevetibly its costs are driven down and that means your wages . It is not an industry with a future 99% of its fields .

Yeh but he has to drive to and from the job, supply his own tools etc etc and telstra pays him per job not per hour so if a job takes longer then he doesnt get paid more. Still i get what your saying. Seems telstra/fox come out with a new product every 5 mins that needs install just o keep em busy, pft waht can u do.

Health = the new IT job for 05, plain and simple... seriosuly guys, do a bit of research and look around you.... advertising is now all aimed at Health... before advertising was "this computer for this much, or gain this qualification for this IT diploma" now advertising is "low fat, low carb, look good, feel healthy, diet this don't diet that... blah blah blah.... its evrywhere... even mcdonalds is promoting health!!" I work in a gym and even I am sick of it!! The whole westernised civilisation is so focused on health & looking good right now its unbeleivable!

Damn it even troy is a member of a gym!!!!!!!!

No surprise though that some people who do IT don't leave there chair they have no need do then start seeing health problems later on from inactivity in life.....

Anyway thats enough health talk for now :-)

P.S of course the majority of the people on here will be IT, who else can find time in their day besides IT people whilst the windows install takes 20 mins of thinking time of which you charge the customer...... ahahaha remember i was in IT for 5 years aswell! ahahah! easy money but damn there was no motivation!

anyway if your happy or whatever then good for you . its a case of dont miss what you dont know and if you didnt get the high wages youll probably think IT is pretty good even now

I'm still confused. If you're earning 60k now and you used to earn at least 100, then why complain about being in IT?

And I know plenty of people earning at least 100k in IT so it's not that bad an industry?

Translation Govt Shitkicker :)

Before i worked in car industry for 4 years!

Farkkk that was a long time ago!! Remember those days Dan - before the health kick - west perth lunchs :)

Then i went to the WA Turf Club ..... hated that

Now I work for Big Rock Toyota - Fleet Services Coordinator. Plus I work at the Races selling membership on Saturdays ..... and im still poor :) But least Im back doing what i enjoy :P

This isnt great news for someone that's doing Bachelor of Computer and Math Science as a degree :) ... but hell, I'd be happy with a wage anywhere near 60k...

Oh, and what do i do? Yeah, the above... 3rd yr, IT Systems and Chinese as my majors.

P.S. I am not Chinese. Fcuk it's a hard language to learn though.

arkon,

On the contrary mate - IT is still in a climb, not a decline! The techie services and computer hardware is definitely on the way down again, I mean look at all the uni chumps that charge $20/hour to fix your computer. Decent money for them, but that said they may only work 5-6 "real" hours a week. Hence thier shit wage.

I started in IT when I was 18, and now my wage has almost tripled from back then. That said I'm no longer a "consultant" and now a manager and have my own staff. That's where the money is. I fork out bulk $$$ in software development costs just to keep our company moving forward with the rapid changes.

And sure, you can go earn $80-$100/hour contracting in the eastern states for your time, but hell that's the only benefit of 3-6month contracts! Perth pays a LOT less for IT work over here - that's proven itself time and time again. I have more than enough cash to survive, play with my car and party hard so that keeps me happy.

As for digging holes for more money - Yeah probably. But really, I know i'd much rather be sitting at my desk all day than running around like a tradesmen site-to-site doing manual labour! Blech!

maybe u can figure out why that crazy chinese guy on ebay gave me a strike..............oh right i didnt pay him and told him to shove it, i think the translator got that one through. :)

Yeh true, we havent exactly got a wide audience here, not like a hole digger is gonna go press refersh every 20 mins on his wireless laptop.

This isnt great news for someone that's doing Bachelor of Computer and Math Science as a degree :) ... but hell, I'd be happy with a wage anywhere near 60k...

Oh crap, when will you young kids learn that just because you goto uni you'll jump straight into a 60k job! Get real! It ain't gonna happen, you'll still be a 21-22yo with NO real world experience. You'd be lucky to start off as a helpdesk jockey on 28k/year!

*Reality check pls!*

damn ill take help desk jockey i spent just as long learnin my trade as most uni students and just cause we work with our hands everyone looks down their noses at us and expects us to earn less

oh im a QUALIFIED roof plumber i work for a small company in mandurah

I think IT is still constant.. you just cant get stuck in a job where your not learning anything. I was in one before, but now im in IT for defence, learning a heap more.. so the money thing is really offset by what you learn while your doing the job (plus the pay is better)

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
