Hi everyone,

Im in Melbourne, and i need someone to look at a car for me, its a turbo oldskool MR30. no rego etc.

it has been offered to me at an unbeatable price, and i have no way to look at it (the dude has no PC either)

Can someone take some time to check it out for me? some photos and maybe a short test would be great, even a sound recording of the engine... photos especially of under the bonnet are essential as i already have a mr30 but no turbo! so the engine is the most important part....

please pm me with your details if interested!

Regards,

Andrew (MAG86)

might help if you let us know what suburb in canberra the car is located in, as I am sure some people won't want to drive 30-45mins to the other side to look at it...and never know your luck there might be a member just around the corner from it

Yeah, I would be happy to have a look. I am on honeymoon for the next 2 days, but will be back in Canberra on the 17th. Let me know if you would like me to arrange for you. I can take digi photos, video etc if you wish.

Cheers, Luke

OK

the car is in a workshop at Conder

15 NORMAN LINDSAY ST.

Chris (owner) says Saturday morning is a good time to look at it...

reply here who is avaiable then, and i will pm you his mob. number, you get in contact, and we will go from there...

thanks for your help so far guys!

Regards,

Andrew

I think you can get pay NRMA to check it over for you and email/fax you a report of their findings.

It's not that far from my place, I could go look at it, but I couldn't tell you much unless it didn't look like a car. Anything specific you were worried about?

And, I don't think it's the Ti with the RB25det conversion. I remember that guys name being Bill. He did live down around that area from what I remember.

Well I said I could go out there and take photo's and recordings etc.

But Mag86 PM'd saying could not get my phone number working (wish rest of my clients had troubles), MAG86 didn't answer the number he gave me for himself (no answering system either) and the number for the guy selling seems incorrect as it answers for Dave.

Left message on "daves" phone, PM'd MAG86. But no reply's since late Friday. I have answering machines at work and home.

Either MAG86 has dyslexia or I've been given the run around.

i saw this car the other day looks a little ordinary but it is an old car so expected had quite a nice exhaust note sounded very rb'ish saw them move it from the servo to the shop had a big miss under load possibly just cos it was cold tho since they fired it up and moved it straight away

Here's the car.

Car doesn't even turn over currently (likely flat battery).

On another matter, I'd not be sure about sending my car to the local service centre. The kids working there are not even old enought to have a drivers licence! Nice kids.. just no experiance.

I hereby express my gratitude for the time you took to check this car out for me, and the pics are great, they showd me exactly what i needed to know...

I apologise for not contacting you earlier , and for not giving the correct details in the first place.

And yes, i do have dyslexia, and it is no fun at all.

I cant remember names or numbers or what day it is, how old i am , it takes be 20 sec to tell the time on a watch...

so instead of badmouthing me on a public forum, please contact me personally.. im sure you still have all my details.

Shit mate ive only been on this forum a few months, dont give me a bad reputation already, its not like ive screwed you over or ripped you off or anything...

Cheers,

Andrew

I see this car every time I fill up with fuel, its at my local servo.

I had a quick look at it tonight, it looks pretty rough/neglected on the outside. No idea what condition the motor is in though as I could only have a real quick glance at it.

If you are semi interested, a small pic.

I'd like to ask how much cash are they going to give you to tow it away...........looks a bit lowbrow to me. Especially when you can pick up good cars [31, 32, 33] for around the $10000 mark these days.

    • Yeah, so widen your search to any Nissan speedo first, then go wider if needed. I will say though, that there is a better than even chance that what I said first will likely come into play. They quite possibly won't come apart without damage. I tried to disassemble a stepper gauge that I wanted to repair. There was no way that needle was coming off the spindle, and I could not see how the spindle would come out of the mechanism behind. Assembled once, never to be disassembled, was my conclusion. Could be the same on the R34 cluster. Failing that - take the cluster to a workshop that specialises in automotive instrument work. There's usually at least one in every Australian city. They'll either be able to do it for you for small cost, or tell you it can't be done. It might be that "it can't be done" unless you follow some arcane procedure, including trickiness to glue it back together or something, that only experienced techs know.
    • Well, given that I, an engineer, almost never bring out the torque wrench to tighten up chassis bolts, despite fully knowing the theory, and instead rely on feel, which I happen to know is exactly how the majority of mechanics do things, should tell you the level of actual peril that exists from not achieving exactly 88 Nm of torque. How about if I just say then that 88Nm is at the lower end of the correct wheel nut torque range? Everyone knows how to tighten a wheel nut, right? And almost no-one ever brings out the torque wrench for that task
    • Don't be ridiculous. "2-3 ugga duggas or one Oof. You have to use Oof on tie rods because you can't get an ugga dugga on there." Is not helping the guy at all.
    • I have done a lot of research before posting here and on gtruk forum. couldn't find anything. I have my gauges all part except the needle itself. the needle has a extremely small hole in the center, but the shaft going to the needle is extremely small and appears to have nothing to index it either. doesn't seem strong enough to simple pry or pull without damaging something. Already tried the old spoon trick on a extra triple meter I have from a gtt, but no luck. the center cap comes off easily but the hole in the meter face plate aren't big enough to get over the needle itself. figured this would be my best place to find someone who might have actually removed theirs. wonder if there is some type of small pin press tool to push the pin in while pulling the needle base off.
    • Ok...its taking me long enough to finally do this.  Feck financial security...heart disease will get me soon enough anyway So welcome to the garage..."Clem" Belsil80 has been running a 370Z in Super TT series. So after entering with him in last years Winton 300 i figured I  need my own car. Seems SAU Vic race cars need to be yellow....{tick} Reckon with enough motor i will be able to make up for the lack of talent and stay ahead of the 370Z... but the LS powered S13 and E36s are a ways up the road Aim is to have a car that doesnt stop or turn but has a bit of shed built motor with jam...maybe some cream  First step is getting this ex drift car log booked I am keeping faithful silver car. As the road-club car gets upgrades the race car wil get the sloppy seconds
