You joined this forum only a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen or heard of your car at any trackdays.... if it really was the monster you claim that could 'maul' GTR's i'm sure we would of seen/heard it. As already asked - what times have you put down at what tracks?

But do 6k Proflex make you any quicker over 1 lap? Maybe a race distance. Bit for hillclimbs etc i imagine a good set of Bilstein, DMS, Koni will do the job at half the price.

I do agree that it all adds up to quick. Thing is you can get them to go bloody quick for not much money. I think for 20k i could get an R32 GTSt to lap EC at 1:45, PI at 1:48 and Sandown at 1:21. To go 2 seconds quicker at each track it will cost probably twise as much again...so you can get to 90% of the cars performance cheaply, its the last 10% that costs huge money. (Proflex, magnesium wheels, carbon taiilshaft, chrome moly cage, better engine/displacement, carbon panels)

An R32 GTSt with a built RB25 running a TD06-25G (guessing 300-320rwkws) in a strengthened and lightened body with the same shocks as in Jacks car and upgraded brakes. I have no problem in believing that this car would do some awesome times...

Sorry Roy, I wasn't clear enough... I was meaning Proflex purely for a dirt rally setup, as road style coil overs simply won't cop the punishment.

Certainly if the car was built solely for circuit racing it could be built a little cheaper with more commonly available components.

Maybe I was running off on my own tangent a little, as I'm more interested in serious tarmac rallies and dirt action. :iluvff:

well marlin, I know of just such a car in nsw.

S13, SR20 silvia.

stock engine and turbo (from memory maybe even stock IC)

wind up the boost

open exhaust

proper rally cage (monkey bars ahoy!)

2 proper seats

proper harness

terra trip

coms

The $6K proflex

used semis

even with it's bullshit high suspension, but with a decent steerer and me in the passenger seat it did ~1.19 at Oran Park GP. within a couple of seconds of most of the big HP big dollar GTRs. (and a few secs quicker than me :iluvff: )

it had bugger all power, but nice suspension, and a driver with massive nuts, and no rev limit on the engine (lol) meant it got quick times. plus he's not afraid to dent panels on his crummy S13, and with all the good safety gear he has the confidence to go very, very hard into turn 1.

that car opened my eyes.

id put money on that trial built 32 oversteers every corner you try to gas it out of even with smooth throttle application. Its a drift car by the looks of it.

Nah actually it was a time attack car built by trial in japan, i got bored with circuit and decided to fit a few drift mods to it. i had one of team kawasakis ex world superbikes to keep me scared on the track . It would take 20mins to get it back in full circuit trim. The differrences between drift and circuit are very minor.

haha this is gonna come accross as arrogant but anyways, ive been building imports for nearly 12years and been working on 'real' circuit cars not "occasional" club cars for just as long. Im the owner of URAS australia and am currently the largest importer of BLITZ and TRUST in the country, probaly keep more than 2mill of stock at any one time..... i have no need to prove myself to anyone especially not in here it is not my style. I prefer just to stay relatively to myself and have my oppinion respected like evryones else's.

cheers

Let me use the R32 for one track day.

Hell i will even do all the fluids in it. There isnt a single decent GTSt hitting the track in Vicx

Sure there are some nice cars with nice mods. But none with near the money that the average track GTR has had spend on them.

So ppl just dont get to see how quick rwd Skylines can be. About the most sorted GTSt in Vic would be Lee Wilsons AVO R33 GTS25T. Though i havent seen that out in the last 12 months...well not since he went GT35 anyway.

Id love to see your car out there. I read about it a while ago when it was for sale on NS.com

Looks like an old ZXR750? Two wheels = most fun you can have while still fully clothed.

yeah bit off topic but it is a 2000 TKA model FIM spec ZX7RR, sold it.... want a ex-works RC30 or ex-HRC SP1 not sure both are like rocking horse shit and i spose id be dreaming if i could afford one nowadays....

So post up the lap times then big shot.

Into the 3rd page now and your yet to give us one laptime

haha, easy nismoid! lol. Trent is ok (not that he needs my defence). I have met him a few times at various tracks (mostly when he in syd with Cat) and he's always been a good guy to chat too. He certainly knows his shit so even though his comments may seem a bit arrogant or baseless it's not that way at all. I don't think he was trying to put GTR owners down.

but anyway, c'mon trent post a time big boy.

i dont have any, nor do i need any all my laps in it lately have been sideways. I stand by my statement it will still maul "most" GTR's round a track. For sure one with more mods will but from most of the cars ive seen at these days sport RE555's and bolt-ons.... ooh and big ego's.

The crew i see associated to racepace (hardcore respect for) would have to be the most hardcore, and for sure i have no doubt they would give it a lashing but they are not "most" they are "few".

what is your issue R31NISMOID what do you drive?

cheers, putting GTR owners down would be stupid as i used to have a T517Z'd 1994 R32 parked in the garage, now in the old mans. Fantastic car but lets be honest i dare use the word again "MOST" GTR's i see at these track days would find a modded late model EVO tuff to compete with can someone give me the quickest times at recent track days?

So basically you dont have a lap time

Thanks for clearing it up

Fast turning into a "I can pee this high" contest.

Face it gents, there are some pretty good options there.

RWD Skyline with suitable preparation is a good thing

S13 or S14 is a good thing also with suitable preparation

GTR is a good thing

EVO is a good thing

It's as much about budget as driver preference for what the car feels like.

I'd hazard a guess to say that nearly anyone on this board lacks the skill and balls to get the most out of their machine. ie. the driver is normally the biggest limiting factor to speed. Remember we are talking about club activities here, with no sheep stations at risk.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
