Hey Guys,

I have had a few "fallouts" with John in the past, but we made up our differences and I am more than happy to send people his way to get parts/cars. He is on this forum as "Boosted Zed".

I try to never go to UAS anymore though, it sucks... everytime i go there, i spend WAY too much. :)

Christian

I used to have a lot to say against UAS, mostly in the way of customer service.

But I have since learn't that it isn't from a lack of passion, commitment, or salesmanship, it is purely an abundance of enthusiasm. John and his staff are very passionate about imported cars, and are easily sidetracked. But don't let that sway you, just grab their attention and don't let it go until you're satisfied. Don't be afraid to remind them that you're still in need of attention :)

It is without question that they stock many great parts for our precious Skylines, and have the knowledge to make said parts work optimally.

Just be patient.

Merli,

Well said. I think that is the exact reason I started this thread. I know they are passionate about what they do and they are good at it. I think the major flaw at UAS (and indeed a lot of auto places) is customer service.

Maybe they just need a better system for tracking orders (which I would be happy to develop :Þ)

A long long time ago when i was buyin a 300zx tt i went to unique and they were very helpful but I found them to be pricey. For my money, Just Jap was both really good in that they gave me a great price, chucked in some mods and installed them the next day. When ive taken it there they have had it ready the same day, and it seems they really know their stuff.

Just so you are all aware... I have spoken to John and everything is being sorted out. He has explained the situation and I am happy with what he had to say.

Everyone should also be aware that the issue I had was with communication and delays of a part, nothing to do with any mechanical work that they were doing.

They have my vote.

they sell Option DVD's :)..................... say no more... :D

I am getting my timing belt done there soon and it's good to know that I wont have any apprentices working on my car and thrashing the shit out of it because they feel like it :)

ugh don't mention timing belt!! my car was off the road for a week cause the mechanic got the wrong water pump and blah blah blah...

Would 6 hours be about average to do timing belt & water pump at the same time?? burnt a nice hole in my pocket!

In my expirence Toyota seem to have a habit of designing cars in such a manner that changing the timing belt takes hours of work.

My celica was probably similar to your car tosh, small engine bay, the engine mounted in such a way that the only way to change the belt is to pull the engine out of the car.

I hear that one of the guys at unique knows a thing or two about MR2's however. :D

My experience with UAS has been average. I have not had any interaction with their workshop. I would have had my car serviced there as I live in Castle Hill, but the customer service that I have received made me not want to go back.

Nick fitted my air partition for me, and he did a really good job, spent alot of time getting it right, and was great to deal with. BUT - while he was doing this I had the manager ask me why I chose to use a Uni Filter (found him to be very condascending). Also I booked a car inspection when I wanted to buy my car. I was made to wait 45 mins after arriving on time for my appoinment. Also on a seperate occasion I was made to wait 30 minutes while a guy was arguing with his wife/or girlfriend on the phone. Some arrogant staff, but some good staff too.

    • I don't understand how this hasn't boiled down to - Upgrade the turbo when you have everything required. ECU, injectors, fuel pump, turbo, etc. Do it all at once.  If you don't have everything required, just enjoy the car as it is and keep saving up your pennies.
    • Sounds like you've got an interesting adventure ahead here with local support if you have trouble! My guess is that, unboosted, you will be OK with a small upgrade like -9. What will happen is that once the stock ECU sees more airflow than it expects it will add a heap of fuel and pull a heap of timing to be safe because it can't understand how it could get that much air without there being an issue. You will see clouds of black smoke and it won't pull hard through the midrange and top end. So, overall it will be a bit frustrating but should be OK. If you are still nervous set the base timing back 2o through the CAS, but it will be even more sluggish everywhere. As said above through...this is not my guarantee your engine won't be blown into a million pieces, leaving you looking for very hard to find parts A better idea is get a computer with logging ASAP, wire in a wide band O2 sensor and a use remote tuner. I've done multiple cars this way and while it is not as good as a specific tune on a dyno they can get it 90% right. I'd suggest if you can afford an R33 GTR these days you can afford an ECU and tune. And if you can't afford that you sure won't be able to afford the rebuild if it goes bad in the meantime,.
    • Yeah it would be nice if someone took the time to put that sort of information together, but there are a lot of variations in looms. I think you are making this way hard for yourself if you just want to get it running....sourcing an SR20 with the right wiring will be a billion times easier than matching the RB loom to an S15 chassis. If you do end up going this way, you just need to trace every wire in the loom with a multimeter, 95% of them will go to a location you can confirm at the ECU.....and then post it up for the next person who needs it
    • Just top it up with water, and keep a general idea of how much you added. It is normal for water to be pushed into and pulled out of the reservoir through the cap, and it should not be more than half full or it will be likely to overflow when hot. Any decent mechanic can do a pressure test of the cooling system to confirm if you have a leak. Keep in mind if it is only leaking a little and when hot it may well evaporate before you see it hit the ground
    • I'd ask the shop what they used and use that. Mixing coolants is sometimes OK, sometimes not, and you have know the details of each coolant to know whether it's a good idea or not.
