Greddy Plenum Upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi , Just wondering if anyone out there has got a Greddy plenum intake manifold with a larger throtle on their RB25?

Apart from the bling factor in your engine bay, has anyone noticed a performance gain of any kind?

Bolted to a standard engine with standard ecu and turbo?

I'm guessing that the fact that you will lose almost 1 metre of intercooler piping that runs across the engine will allow a drop in the air temp that enters the plenum, wont that in itself increase performance?

Just wondering if anyone out there has done it ? what kind of results did you get? and if the upgrade is worth while performance wise?.

cheers

Muzz :)

Been covered a trillion times before, better up top, minimal actual kw gains, just the power delivery is affected. Stock manifold is good for 300kw+ so unless you've got a big snail hanging off the side of your engine, your money is probably better spent elsewhere

Care to elaborate on the problems?

Im keen on one not really as a power modification but more because of the forward facing throttle body.

It sounds like more of a problem with the fitment than the product. If its still got an afm, then it is unlikely to cause much if any change in fuel economy.

silly bugger lol...

ok what will the greddy plenum do..? cut ur pipping down by 50cm straight tube and 2 90degree bends which is worth 3m of pipping from memory.. so in the end u get more...

Everytime i hear or read about the greddy plenum and people saying that its not needed above 300rwkw i have to think to myself has anyone tried or has that person tried or are they just reading something that someone else has written and that person has no idea......

now i have tried on my r34 and ill tell u the difference's...

anyone who know's me should know that i dont write up here for fun and i actually go to the effort of finding out...as a lot of r & d has been done on the car at bel performance in syd.

i can only tell you for the r34 so dont ask about the r33 this being the neo engine is different than the r33 engine..and im also not here to tell you the differences so dont ask do a search....

things that were noticed..

ok i went with a hypetune throttle body and greddy plenum also the tubo in question is a hks 2835 pro s

1. more responsive -

2. holds boost to redline does not drop off or drop down at all ,before it would drop off on top end as i was pushing the turbo to its limit .

3. made much more midrange and top end without much boost so therefor before i had a plenum i was pushing more boost and putting more strain on the turbo it was struggling.

so in conclusion i made more power in midrange to top end but i wasnt pushing the turbo to its limit also the boost held better and didnt drop off..

so there's my 2cents of info i hope this helps and people put forward there ideas or questions instead of saying stupid shit to me... but hey this is a forum so i expected it i suppose..

cheers

also the car made 300rwkw at 1.2bar and it was responsive as flys attracted to shit...hahahaha j/k

Well i'm sure glad some people responded to this topic thank you to all, I will sure have to do some more research before fitting one on my S1 r33, but it still interests me very much, they sure do look awsome in the engine bay, Other than a bigger turbo set up for my RB25 Does anyone have any good suggestions for Useful performance upgrades on a basically stock engine at around $1500 ??

I have FMIC barnplate,

turbo back exhaust,

Fuel pump,

air filter

boost controller

better braking system in the works- coming soon

cheers.

Who said anything about the greddy plenum being useless above 300rwkw, I can only assume you were speaking with reference to my comment where I said the stock one should hold til around then. Im currently using a Greddy plenum it shaved 4feet of piping off my setup and im pushing 380rwkw on 1.2bar on a series1 RB25 using an ITB setup with a custom adaptor plate. Still to be tuned for higher, and its running rich as a mofo. Soon as its painted its off to sydney to have the fcon tuned and ill get back to you on how much of a difference it makes. I totally agree with your comments above so sorry if I wasnt clear in my first post, just tried to sum it up real quick for him before the usual "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON" nazi's jumped in :)

I have put a greddy plenum and a custom 80mm throttle body onto my R33 Series 2 and I have notcie everything the Injected Flow mentioned on his R34.

For $1500 get a new ECU, wind the boost up. These are probably the only things that you will notice more power without putting a new turbo on it.

I had similar mods to you when I put a new ECU in and turned the boost up and I made just over 200rwkw.

I got APFC ecu its ready to go in, then i gotta get it tuned , just wondering what would a safe psi level be for the standard turbo?

most people say around 14 psi you can run the standard turbo and it should last, dont know how accurate that is others say not more than 12 if you want it to last.

I think the concept is there are better places to spend ur money for more gains if ur well under 300rwks

Anyway i have read a bit about CPC...what are the prices for ur RB25 and can u post some details/pics etc of what packages u get. PM me if u like.

Cheers
