Hey guy's, just wonderin if anyone could help me. My 33 is starting to have a few grindies, mainly if I'm shifting quick into 4th, if I take it really steady *slowly* it tends to go no prob's.. now if I go to over take truck's and shoot from 5th back to 3rd it's sweet, but if I jump straight back to 5th, she don't wanna go without force and a little grind (I was doin that due to the 4th prob). I's this the syncro's f*kucked or what??? just wonderin if anyone could help me there. I think I will need a new clutch soon, so is that a good time to get it fixed if it is??? sorry if I sound a bit dumb...

I changed the oil to Redline Lightweight Shockproof and havent looked back. IMO fully synthetic redline oils are the way to go. they recommend lightweight shockproof for racing applications in 33gts-t but ive had no nicking since changing to this oil. also, yes the synchros are slowly f**king in ur car, a rebuild may be needed down the track, the 125 dollar option for redline oil is a mask for the problem, if u keep nicking after 5kms after the oilchange to redline, u will probably need a synchro replacement in ur gearbox. synchro replacing isnt needed on a regular basis, but maybe the little jap guy that drove ur car before u has hammered the f**k out of it or learnt to drive a manual in it lol.

Paul.

I have been lucky enough not to have a syncro problem as of yet.

A few times I have thought I was possibly having syncro problems when it came down to a leaky mastercyl, then the slave cylinder went and another time a pedal box that popped its welds.

So check those few before laying out $$ on oil.

Castrol Syntrax is another VERY good gearbox oil thats not to be overlooked.

Myn is starting to grind at high RPM in 3rd and 4th, can synchro be upgraded and a higher 5th gear be made

on the track i hope :) Syncros cant be upgraded, just rebuilt. Higher 5th is achieved by lowering the diff ratio

Castrol Syntrax is another VERY good gearbox oil thats not to be overlooked.

+1......+1

seems like a common problem for nissan. my gtr does that was well if i try to cheange into 4th to quick or drop it back. and the same happened to my cousins gtir pulsar. if i slowly change into 4th it seems fine.

I had the same problem in one of my GTRs when changing into 4th on high boost. I used the Redline Lightweight Shockproof that Paul mentioned above and it worked a treat. I've never had an issue with the syncros since. It was $35 a litre but well worth it. I'm about to get my other GTR serviced next week and have already stated that I want the gearbox oil changed to Redline. Probably going to use a different Redline oil for the diffs as well.

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
