In the pits

Hats off to Gavin for hitting the track in the GIO car...but he has to realise driving an ex Grp A car that he has a target on his back. Everyone wants to go quicker then  But it did look like coming onto the striaght he was giving the GTR everything it had.

hahahah thats awesome! 47's is bloody quick - how much more do you think you had in the car? Hard to go your fastest first time at PI.

Conditions were ideal and the way the car it was prob a second or so in improved driving if had more time in the car as only did 14 laps. With knowledge of the track and learning the lines and with better set up a few more seconds. I realised with so much speed and grip and g forces the shocks were not coping and unloaded and wobbled a bit and unsettled and I should have adjusted harder. I realised this late in the day as I was getting quicker, and mentioned this to Roy. I had shocks set for much lower speed and bumpy Wakefield track. With so much happening and trying to keep it quiet and my session was up I just went with it. Lot of much slower traffic also and I actually passed a Datsun Fairlady convertible on the fastest lap which didn't slow it up too much. I also need to learn how to use the boost controller properly as my mechs are usually with me to fly all this stuff as it was only on 19 psi and could have gone up to 23psi for the straight. Normal boost this day was only 16psi. Temps still get up though as water temp got up to 94c which is still fine but did surprise me, although on the loud peddle for such a long time most of the track especially coming onto the straight and then long straight.

Yes this GIO GTR is still and awesome machine and well built and with good driver would have been much faster than my car, especially with slicks if not old? I did check with the organisers at the start of the day if he was a good driver and knew the track, which they said he certainly did. He obviously was not pushing the car hard other than the straight although probably not on high boost?

This is the first time I have used the push to pass button and will be giving it a big go at Wakefield for Auto Salon Circuit Battle Fridday 27th April and with this and other improvements should do a 1 min 5.

LOL...shouldnt have listened to me :bunny:

John wanted to harden up the suspension, but my 1c was the leave the car as is as he only had 3 laps to go so best drive same car you had all day. No doubt there is plenty left in the car. You were pulling a second a lap out of the car in the last session with traffic. When your times stagnate or only improve by tenths of a second you may be getting close. But you were improving over a second a lap!

Still its only a time...and you need to be careful of not getting cheated at these sorts of days! You get a fixed number of laps, not a timed session. Go too quick and you could see yourself gettng 5 minutes less track time then me over the day. You see, there is method to my going slow :P

..im dirty i wasnt out there. I would have loved to have documented evidence that an R32 GTSt is quicker around PI then the GIO car :bunny: LOL doesnt matter that he was cruising (I understand it was his first time on the track in the car...so probably just going through the motions doing shecks) .

But...my grandkids or 18 yr old girls that i court need not know the difference :P

Come on John, don't tell us you didn't buy V8SupercarsII to practice at PI before you went there? :bunny:

Think I might trade my GTS4 for a ZedTT !!

Great work, but wondering about the extended exhaust pipe in the pit lane video?

That tip extra extension is stage two noise suppression device.

Roy ulterior motives hey. "Yeah John go for it all good, go for it don't change anything." Yeah right. LOL.

Big thanks for your help with the tip fitting. You are a better man than me, I don't think I could turn up to an event like this with out having a go.

Turbox the boys in the house we were staying at had this but I never had a chance to have a go on it as arrived Fri night a 10pm and straight to bed after driving 12 hours or so. I have it at home but can't get excited about it. Played it once when we got it a year ago Oran Park track but I like the real thing only.

yeah john is not really the playstation generation... lol. more of the praystation generation. cause he will need divine intervention if he thinks his push to pass is going to get him around my super wide GTR. I've been getting tips from nathan on this.

John's zed has got a wide butt. :D:huh:

Big arse zed is 70mm wider wheel track than R33 GTR and Jack that is gold. Like poker raise then all in raise over the top.

Lots of pics

    • Got the passenger door on plus the master cylinder and booster. Loaded up to take it home. At home, the colour changes a lot in the light.
    • Nothing cheap, but I have seen the AC Hydraulic DK13HLQ which is pretty close to what you're asking for. The problem is the hydraulic cylinder mandates that the back of the jack be a certain height and Skylines have fairly deep inset floor jack points. A more certain and cheap option is to get some nominal 2x10 inch lumber boards and have one board be 1.5 feet, the other board 3 feet. Glue it all together with lots of clamps to maintain pressure. Make two of these. The ramp suggested above is a good idea, it takes quite a bit of clutch slip to get over each of the boards. I only need the first ~1.5 inches for my low profile jack on a standard ride height car but a lowered car you want to go up to the full ~3-3.5 inches. Paint it or store indoors if you want it to last.
    • Ok. And Nistune? I read (here too) mainly on Stagea threads that it can by "turn off" with Nistune. But they say they still had the sensor plug in. Next week iam going to the Nistune(and other ECUs) tuner so i can finally make it work. I drove the car home and apart from the cut it drove great. No misfire no smoke no hesitation or rough start...so hoping it is this sensor that is missing
    • I just stack 2 pieces of 200x50 timber on top of each other. Total length about 900mm, with the top one being a little shorter and both having a 45° angle cut on them to make the front edge a bit of a ramp. Put these in front of each front wheel, drive up on them, throw the trolley jack under. Takes 1 minute. Scissor jacks can eat a bowl of dicks. I never use on under my car unless desperate.
    • Well, yeah. But I just expect everything other than my car to feel like a bucket of shit anyway. I still miss my Alfa 116 so much though. You could run over a 20c piece and tell whether it was heads or tails.
