Roy
LOL..if you dont know what your doing then overkill baby My oil return line is worth almost as much as my car Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/164666-project-24/page/4/#findComment-3241488 Share on other sites
Roy
I should also comment that i recently cracked my Trust manifold when driving back from Geelong there was road works on the freeway, and in the rain i was forced onto the shoulder of the highway and through 5" deep water. Car goes into water fine, comes out sounding like a tractor Turns out hot manifolds dont like cold water and the thermal shock resulted in a crack. So best bet is to make sure the underside splash guard is in place if you are running a thin walled tubular manifold Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/164666-project-24/page/4/#findComment-3242826 Share on other sites
murrayis
Good thing with this manifold is its 3mm thick walls, but nay steel will crack if heated then chilled quickly with preasure on it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/164666-project-24/page/4/#findComment-3243343 Share on other sites
Roy
Whether its 1.6mm or 3mm its not the problem. A good durable manifold is all about the welding, the wall thickness almost doesnt matter compared to the quality fo the welding. The Trust ones are prety good compared to the Apexi ones and cheap ones i haev seen. They are not quite as good as the HKS ones though. Even with 3mm wall thickness, if the outer edge has only been fused together then there is already 50% of the wall thickness that has a crack in it from not beign welded so easily propogates to crack through to the surface. murrayis
Well i have been a bit busy lately, but some progress has been made. I spent a saturday wiring in the new Adaptronic ECU, also spent some time on the dyno doing up a map for it running the standard RB20DET, so thats all running now. New turbo setup is on I took the advice of a few people sayign the GT2876R wouldnt be large enough and now gone for a highmount Garrett GT3076R, running and external TiAL wastegate, Along with mounting all that up also had to move the Power steering reserve, and rerun the oil lines for that. I took my time making this dump pipe, got my workshop to Tig it all up for me to match up with the Trust Cat back system. Also filled new Iridium plugs and Spitfire coils for the tune and testing. I have attached some pics, i got a few pm's asking for a pic of the car all this is being done too, I am currently tossing up changing the wheels or keeping these ones, main reason for getting new ones are the rear footprint is 265x18 and they don't quite fit inside the guards. For those thinking of buying a EBAY 38mm wastegate, please don't, i bought one for the hell of it to see what their quality was like and test it out, as i already had a TiAL 38mm sitting in its box waiting for me. -Some of their features include, incorrect seal not closing all the way -Spring not strong enough causing the valve to bounce at idle not cool -Rough finish Cheers guys will try keep the thread updated bit more regular. m3gtr
that was fun reading. Looks the business mate. Hope everything works out for you. The photos of the car but dont do it justice, get on it and put up some high res beauties for us to have a gawk at. Personally i thought why te heck did you spend 80 USD on the wastegate when you had a TIAL in the first place? anyways, if your dropping that kind of coin on a motor, 80 USD isnt really that much to sneeze at. do me a favour but and change those mirrors!! Damn unsightly on a car with that kind of potential... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/164666-project-24/page/4/#findComment-3340776 Share on other sites

murrayis
Guys, I need some assistance, After having a Head Gasket on order with Nengun for about 2 months, today I get a email from them saying they no longer can get the 83mm 1.5mm Trust head gasket, and if I order the Tomie item will be another few weeks wait. Does anyone know of a suppiler or shop in Aus who has one in stock that I can purchase for a price thats not going to break the bank? cheers Cameron Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/164666-project-24/page/4/#findComment-3354632 Share on other sites
murrayis
Ok an update, I found a headgasket in japan for th engine so thats delt with, but after lending my HKS cam's to a mate as his didnt arrive in time and then his oil pump dieing at the drift comp he was attending loosing all oilflow to the head and the exchaust cam jamming and snapping, we have decided to change the head setup to a solid lifter setup So far we are looking at using Rb26 272 cams Jun Valve springs and retainers rb26 valves which we are goign to get machined to suit the rb20 head, we are lookign at machinging them to about 1.5 - 2mm oversize from factory The bottom end is ready to be assembled but we arent going to do that until we get the head setup done so we can checp the pisotn to valve clearence. We where hoping ot be at Brisbane Auto Salon this weekend for the dyno comp but too many delays have slapped that idea in the face and looks like I will have to wait till next year now.
