Is that what you said when you got on the pocket bike?

All the flesh and skin has grown back now! :(

And if you must bash your head on a brick wall try placing a feminine hygene pad on your forehead first!!

(c%#! head)!!! :laughing-smiley-014:

there are ways around it!

i know of some people who have taken thier (r33 gts-t) power/weight fine to court, contested it and won!

and now that they have won once.... they can never be fined for it in their same car again!

Ruffels,

on what grounds did they contest the fine?

I'm so desperate for a solution I REALLY don't wanna sell my car :P

feck! just lost 3 points. my fault, had it coming. somebody clear this up for me. my mate rekons that p plates last only until you turn 21 and then you get your full licence. i was under the impression that it takes 3 years from time of issue till you can move on to your full.

QUOTE: If you pass your test, you will be issued with a Probationary drivers licence which is valid for three years. During this time you will have certain restrictions imposed on you.

wait for it,

the answer to this p plater problem is not in the weight, but in the power. i cannot be bothered heading to vicroads site to find quotes or such to back this up, but those who live in fear of these laws will know exactly what it is that i speak of.

in order to be able to drive a hpv on your p plates with out heading through loop holes such as the only car method, you simply have to lower the power to stock weight ratio through modification, this needs to be tested and vicroads needs to be informed of this. i do not know if simple down tuning can resolve this, you may need to question that further with vic police and such, but this does work with the removal of forced induction, i have also heard that this works with certain fuel efficiency mods although i do not know what they are and that is unconfirmed.

hopefully that helps.

now watch as some righteous fool absolutely flames me

Go with the unconfirmed there dude... because you wont be able to confirm it in this life time as (like most of the other posts) wrong.

Removing the turbo doesnt constitute having a non-turbo car.

Fact of the matter is its still a R33 GTS-t by the build plate, and EPA to boot.

You'd need to change the motor to a RB25DE, so basically, waste of time.

Simply taking off the turbo is not acceptable.

Great way to kick off your first post, more heresay

$1100 is $1100. There is no scaled increase.

Its $1100.

Straight from a TMU officer when specifically asked about the new $1100(max) fine:

Maximum penalties are set by the government, and relate to court imposed penalties. The prescribed penalty for an Infringement Notice will be considerably less than the maximum penalty that can be imposed by a court.

Also,

The R33 GTS-t is already a banned car.

Yeah, the R33 is currently banned, but only because it makes too much power for its weight. The actual car is not blacklisted, or anything of the sorts (for pre july 1 p platers). Because they specify the power from modified cars has to be calculated (and that's in plain print), it is not so unreasonable to assume the same for "mods" that decrease the power. If I am wrong in this assumption, please prove me so.

For a mod, you seem to be throwing around a lot of false information as fact. You are not setting a good example. In future, please back up your statements with links/quotes so that we may have a constructive discussion on this issue.

my head hurts from all the rumours everyone is constantly posting ~_~

Check if your car is high powered

If you are a probationary licence holder, it is your responsibility to make sure that any vehicle you drive is not a high powered motor vehicle.

You can:

* check with the manufacturer for engine power and vehicle weight information; and

* calculate the capacity to weight ratio

Stock power to weight. End of story. Not your current power/weight from adding power reduction mods or adding more weights. Stock power to weight.

You conveniently overlooked the following line from both that website and this thread.

If your car is modified, you may also need to obtain an engineer's certificate and do your own calculations.

Now you've done it ;)

f you obtained your P plates on or before 30 June 2007, a high powered vehicle is considered to be any vehicle with a power to weight ratio over 125 kw per tonne, or with an engine capacity to weight ratio over 3.5 litres per tonne. This includes any make of car.

The R33 GTS-t is over the power to weight. It does not need to be "black listed".

From the factory the car is over the limit. As above, it doesnt not need to be on a black list. Is that not clear enough after 3 pages or what?

From 1 July 2007 the penalty for driving a high powered vehicle will be three demerit points and a maximum fine of approximately $1100. These penalties will apply to both the current power to weight restrictions and the new high powered vehicles restrictions.

Meh, near enough. The max is $1100. So you dont get that the first time. Wow.

If you get pinned twice/3 times etc etc. You'll soon find out that you'll be punished with the $1100 regardless of how stupid you try and look in court

I know having been to court for an offence the second time, the Judge doesnt look too highly on you.

Because the second time in 12 months you get pinned you loose your license anyhow.

This due to the 5 points in 12 month scheme. Do i need to explain that one to you?

So... in moving along

VSI #8, Section 10

Also adding weight to a car doesnt not just "give" you approved extra weight. Or get you around the laws because you made your own calculations.

Clearly states you must attain engineers approval in the VSI, and also here

If your car is modified, you may also need to obtain an engineer's certificate and do your own calculations. You are also required to notify VicRoads of any significant modification

Source

And also dont forget

The weight of a vehicle is the unladen mass specified by the manufacturer for the stock standard vehicle (without options).

More info to come tomorrow after i chat to a few people on a few other things

And also use the search button as i've gone into some of this in times past

The R33 GTS-t is over the power to weight. It does not need to be "black listed".

Here we agree. But have a look at that statement again. "any vehicle with a power to weight ratio over 125 kw per tonne", and it ends there. It does not go on to mention which cars are over this limit.

This point, combined with the point regarding modifications, is the basis of my argument that it may be possible to bring a car below the power to weight limit. If a r33 gtst is modified in any legal way to have, for arguments sake, 160kw, then it is no longer over the power to weight ratio. Can you see where I'm coming from?

Is that not clear enough after 3 pages or what?

There's no need for snide remarks.

Meh, near enough. The max is $1100. So you dont get that the first time. Wow.

Nice save.

No argument there. If you'll recall that's why I mentioned engineer's certificates in my first post.

And also dont forget

Fair enough. So the weight is set in concrete, but as lexi bro! suggested the variable "power" is still in the game.

R31Nismoid (and others), don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing just for the sake of it. But I certainly don't appreciate being shut down every time I bring up a not so implausible suggestion to this very real problem. Just because it doesn't concern you does not mean it's not a heartache for other drivers.

God there is so much crap surrounding this issue, I am in the same boat as all the P platers who have this problem, I am simply giving my car to my mum, she barely drives, and I get a nissan in return, I'm not complaining, whether it be a pos pulsar or not, I seriously suggest we either sell up (sucks so much yes I know) or just organize another vehicle for the time being, regardless of all these silly rumors of people winning against the government, it's just not bloody worth the bother.

People who try argue with R31 Nismoid usually lose from what I can see.. so I wouldn't bother + he's wanking in his avatar, that proves he knows his stuff.

Here we agree. But have a look at that statement again. "any vehicle with a power to weight ratio over 125 kw per tonne", and it ends there. It does not go on to mention which cars are over this limit.

It does not need to mention cars which are over the limit.

What part of that dont you understand?

The past 3 pages i think everyone has told you in every different way possible and you still dont understand that the R33 GTS-t is over the power to weight laws, and there does not need to be some mystical listing of all banned models for a car to be deemed ILLEGAL

As for the rest, you try and prove to an engineer you have lowered the power by a means that cant be altered, because any change you do make requires the good ole EPA test. And then your talking 1/3 the value of an R33 GTS-t just to pass, so again, its not a viable option on a car thats worth 15k when it costs you another 5k just to get it "possibly" legal.

It does not need to mention cars which are over the limit.

That's what I was saying! you're the one saying the r33 is already illegal for a p plater so can't be made legal.

if the r33 gtst was made to have less power it would be NO LONGER OVER THE POWER TO WEIGHT LAWS.

you REALLY need to work on your comprehension skills.

as for the costs involved, they are irrelevant at the moment. we're discussing all the ways a p plater can legally drive a r33

    • For these last 7 years of ownership, I've always had to use a small scissor jack under one of the front tow hooks to raise the front just enough so my low-profile jack fits under to reach my subframe jack point. I'm beginning to get annoyed of always having to do this. Are there any lower low-profile jacks that fit under the gtr lip on a dropped car?
    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
